Piyush Chawla vs. R. Ashwin...who should be in the XI

It was first thought that Chawla was the wrong pick by the selectors in the 15 man squad ahead of Ojha, but him getting preference in place of Ashwin in the playing XI was a blow, nobody would have ever thought that he would be the 2nd choice spinner after Harbhajan, but probably he is a leg spinner, he got the preference ahead of Ashwin. And palying 2 offies in the side with part timers would be of no sense. I remember that Sri Lanka used to play with two offies consistently when Dharmasena was playing, while Murali was always there...so it should not be a bad choice to play Ashwin instead of Chawla, since he was picked knowing that there was already Harbhajan in the team and I think that Ashwin is better than Chawla...

Well After worse performance in last two games by Chawla i think Ashwin is surely better option if India want to go with two fast bowlers ... Chawla already given second chance but he don't able to do much.. Now in next game with Netherland surely Ashwin should get chance.

I've not beena fan of Chawla for sure and would have liked if Ashwin had got a chance roght from the beginning, but that was not the case, but now i think that Ashwin would definitely be preferrd.

Yes if India will not go for 3 fast bowlers then surely Ashwin will be choose for next game.. @divyangshukla .. India should go for three seamer for sure. without them we are forced to put a spin bowler during powerplay.

I don't think he deserves a chance in Indian team, he couldn't save the match against England (not very comfortable against spinners) and today also he was not effective. Ashwin is a good bowler and he bowls the initial overs for chennai super kings, therefore, he has experience also. As he is quicker and will get more bounce because of his height, I am expecting him to get a chance in next matches. We should also remember those 5 sixes by Chris Gayle in IPL against chawla, hopefully, he will be excluded in next match and we should also include Raina instead of Kohli.

On the Ashwin part, we are on the same page but for Raina instead of Kohli, we are not...though I'm in favor of Raina, but at the same time I'm in favor of Kohli also, he is such a good form, he deserves to be picked ahead of Raina...

We have got Sachin and Gambhir to play the sheet anchor role and even Dhoni and Yuvraj can do the same. But hard hitting like Raina is exceptional, at this point of time, only Yusuf Pathan and Raina are the two batsmen who can hit sixes at will in the last 10-15 overs. If you remember the innings against England, when Kohli got the chance in the end, he was not much of use. If we add Raina to this team, we add a bowling option as well and at the same time. Think if we could have added Raina in the team and he would've hit a six in the match against England, how it would have affected the result? Also, with the bowling performance of Yuvraj in last match, it will be a smart move to add Raina in playing 11. Don't forget he has been captain of India and his records speak his ability...in other two matches, Raina is a must for us...

I think Ashwin should replace Chawla on the next game. Dont forget the 49th over of Chawla against England where was two over boundaries and today against iris... need to check his peformance. Who is he?

Yeah...chawla did a mess in the 49th over, but i think it was Dhoni's mistake to give him an over at such a crucial stage...agree with you totally..

i think there is no need of second regular spinner as we have two good part timer in the squad like yuvraj and pathan.instead of that we should try to have third seamer and part timer can play the fifth bowler. and now even nehra got fitness so i think nehra should get chance in next match.but anyways after todays match i dont think chawla would b there in next match.

You can never bank on the part timers, they are not as effective as they should be even in sub-continent pitches, and palying matches in India, team needs to have 2 quality spinners in their rank. As for Nehra, he could be in place of munaf, which i doubt.

in simple words piyush chawla needs a break , and india should think of a specailist bowler current they do not have good seamers in 15 man squad so obiviously nehra can be a choice but this time india give only preference to bowling

He shouldn't have been in the 15, Ojha should have been...he is not as good a leg break bowler as the selectors seem to think so, look at Tahir or Smith at least a touch better than Chawla..

I think it was a bad move by Dhoni to pick Piyush ahead of Ashwin. I think Ashwin is a better suited bowler for the limited overs game. He has more variety and can bowl in the power plays as well. On the other hand Piyush is a player probably more suited for the Test variety with his loop. I think his current performances would force Dhoni to replace him with Ashwin. Cheers! Ram

I just dont know why Dhoni is still persisting with Chawla with Ashwin waiting in the wings. Clearly Chawla has not had the match experience as ashwin. Piyush is also a bit low on his confidence as he was pushing the ball through rather than toss it it up in the air & deceive the batsmen. A lot can also be spoken of Dhoni confidence on Ashwin when he chose him to bowl within the power play overs. One of the reason why dhoni decided to go with chawla might be to add variety to the bowling but the bottom line is only the variety exists but performances are marked very low....

I don't think team management will dare to include him in any of the next matches to be played. Now that the competition getting hotter no body can take risk with Chawla. He was basically included to give some variety to balling and considering the weakness of some teams against leg spin balling but he has not performed to the expectation. He could not even perform against Ireland. There is no problem in having two off spinners if they are quality ballers. I think Ashwin will be included in the next match India plays. He is a talented baller and a handy batsman. Can be relied upon to score quick runs just like Harbhajan.

well i dont know what you guys are barking about i feel neither piyush nor ashwin deserve to be in the team. my pick would be surprisingly it would be suresh raina reason look he can give you good 5-6 overs of spin and well we all know what he can do with the bat. what ashwin and piyush can give is a bit of vairety of spin but still i think suresh brings more in the fielding along with the batting and bowling. my pick would be raina.
