Well on the page from wiki, it says - The objectives of celebrating an International Men's Day include focusing on men's and boy's health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality, and highlighting positive male role models. It is an occasion to highlight discrimination against men and boys and to celebrate their achievements and contributions, in particular for their contributions to community, family, marriage, and child care. I find that ironic as men have been the oppressors most of the days in real world though everyone talks about women lib etc... but what happens in most houses, almost all know. And still it is mostly a Man dominated society. So I think it is too early. ps. These are my personal views and opinions. Nothing else.

Don't worry thesids! You have two seats lined next to you--my husband and son who would most willingly join hands with you to celbrate men's liberation because women rule the roost in the modern home.

To all the women out there I share this joyous day today, a day specially dedicated to us to commemorate our day as Eve's descendants. I wasn't even aware that there exist a day to honor the women of this world. Naturally, when there is women's day, it is only fair to also have a Men's Day.

Hi kalav: I like the idea of men's day because mens have been opressed by their own stereotypes like for example "men don't cry" "men have to bee strong" "men are competitive", etc. If we want to talk about equality- even if it's an idealistic concept- it's not good to just talk about women issues. We have to know ourselves better, as men and women to improve our relationships and the way we define feminity and masculinity. ALVARO

That was a very good response sttarsailover! Both women and men seem to behave like their own enemies by posing restrictions on their own ilk.It is common with women too.All human beings are the same as far as rights or emotions are concerned.

Only 3 types of days interest me, and I suppose neither international men nor women's day excite me at all. The first is Christmas. The second is Good Friday. The third is other public holidays. Easter Sunday is not a holiday, but it is also a rest day. I wasn't aware of international men's day. Now that I know, thanks, but it will be just another day for me, if I am alive. Kalva, nice research by the way. Thanks and cheers.

It is very interesting to learn that there is an International Men's Day. It sounds like a joke because as a matter of fact men already rule the world. I love China

I too have not heard this. But, for that matter, all these 'special days' like 'mother's, father's,' are all new concepts borrowed .

Thank you! I wasn't aware of this. In fact, I was talking to one of my friends on Facebook on Women's Day and said I felt that I was sorry for the 'Men' who didn't have a special day of their own.

Ooh, I didnt know this bit of information. Well, I kinda guessed that there might be because it would be unfair if only the "Women" had a day to celebrate their woman-ness.LOL But I also didnt know the exact date. So, thanks for sharing this bit of trivia to us and also for providing the link. It is great to dedicate a day for the health, welfare, and existence of people and things in the world.^_^

International Men's day. Wow I was not aware of that. Yesterday all the radio channel was talking about Womens day 100 years, all the injustice women went thought all this years. equal rights, equal this equal that. Worst still, all of them says there is no such thing as a International men's day. Thanks for the info. This is something to be proud about as a MEN..... But looking at it it is sad that only a handful of country celebrate it and it is call International. What gives?

Do we really need to dedicate 'days' in the first place I wonder. Whose idea was it anyway to have this day and that day and whatever happens on those days service little or no purpose whatever the purpose is. I am not unduly excited about these 'days'

Me too allknowing! I think this is a concept started in different places according to who felt forgotten. When I was young there was no "Mother's" or "Father's day " too.[And noone can deny their existence at any point of time ] Anyhow now that this is a new practice we shall all abide by the times and wish each other "Happy women's day!"!

Move with the times yes kala but not when I vehemently oppose. Let me wish you success in all what you do now and always. I am sure this sounds better than just wishing you for on one day
