On the island where I live the old electric transformer towers are no longer neccesary and they have been turned into art towers instead. 12 different artists each got the chance to transform one tower. I have seen most of them, and I think it is fascinating to see the ways that they have changed the towers. In one of the towers there are a tree and some amorins. The name of the tower is Elskov. It is a play on words: El means electricity and skov means forest and if you put the two words together = elskov you get a word which means love. I think that art is a great way to recycle the towers, and if had lived here while they tranformed the towers I would have loved to decorate one of them... Do you like to recycle things and turn them into something different? Which things do you recycle and how? Are there any places in your local area for instanse old buildings that have been turned into something different?

This is really creative and innovative. I love this idea. In my country, many abandoned places or high towers is left which is quite a 'sore eye' to see. I hope they will get creative soon. Most of the items that I seen they recycle were car's tyres (tires) where they painted it and decorate in the garden.

I also think that it is a creative way to use the old towers. If they are just empty and abandoned they are not a pretty sight, but today they have become a tourist attraction and people drive from from place to place to visit the old towers. I think it is fascinating to see how the artists transform them. Seen from the outside the towers are alike, but inside they are all different and some of them are very colourful. Using the old tires as decoration in the garden also sounds like a nice idea. When I was a child we had a sand box in an old tractor tire that we got from a farm. It was free and it was a great sand box.

That is absolutely wonderful and value added for tourism industry! Two thumbs up for the initiator who came out with this fantastic idea. So far, I only aware that there is local campaign when they recycle plastic bottles, aluminium cans and build some kind of structures for public to admire. Sort of recycle awareness campaign. I hope to see more recycle creativity here soon.

In past the old towers were not a pretty sight, but today they even attract tourists. One of the best things about the towers is that they are always open, and people are able to visit them any time of the day, 7 days a week. In that way they are different from other galleries or museums. In my country we also recycle the bottles. When we return old bottles to the shops we get money. Some people walk around an collect the empty bottles to earn a little extra money, that way the bottles are removed from the streets and I think that reycling is a good thing.

That sounds like a really cool idea. Do you have a camera that you could take a picture of one of them to share with us? I would love to see a picture of one. I think things like this are really neat. It makes ugly things look so much nicer and gives the local people something to be proud of.

When I started the discussion I thought about uploading a picture of one of the towers, and I tried to find a picture on the website, but unfortuneately there was only a map and no pictures. I have a camera, but it is still in one of boxes because we just moved, so I can't take my own pictures at the moment.

I think the decoration isgreat to hide the ugly man make structures . Beside that people start to decorate water tank Telco antenna and such . Not become a sore eyesight but nice to the eye. Better that a bulky grey structure that pollute the sky view .

Yes, sometimes the things that people have created are not a pretty sight. Those electric transformer towers definately weren't very pretty when they were just some abandoned buildings, but now they have been turned into a tourist attraction. My husband and I found it interesting to drive from place to place to check them out, they are all different and we never knew what we would find in the next tower.

The old lighthouse here in our place where the mall is, which in turn is where we have our office was renovated and was transformed into one of its main attraction. It was a simple lighthouse then, but today it was transformed into a beautiful one, complete with revolving different lights. It has stairs leading to the top where a big telescope in a tripod is there for rent. Anyone can up there for a small fee and see the beauty of the whole place facing the sea, at night. They even put a zipline facility there, where daring ones really pay just to ride it. What a nice way to transform an old thing to something beautiful and of use.

I think it is a great idea to transform the old lighthouse like that. It sounds like it has become a beautiful place, and I would love to see the view from the top of building. In town where my parents, brother and I used to spend our vacation there was also a lighthouse. My brother and I always wanted to climb the stairs and enjoy the view from the tower. I think it is nice that the old lighthouses can be used in a different way today and even attract visitors.

I think this is a great idea as those towers are really an eyesore, and more so, since they are no longer needed. I think the more beauty we can share or display the better, and why not apply something like this into a more beautiful form. There are many recyclable items that can be transformed, such as cans, boxes, jars, they cant be refolded, painted, combined with other recyclable forms. These possibilities are endless It is also nice to see old ugly buildings remodeled, but keeping their historic style, but revamped. I love this! Anything to inspire and beautify our world is awesome in my book!

I also think that is a great idea. In some parts of the country they have removed the old towers, but transforming them into an art project is an even better idea. Yes, many items can be transformed and recycled, sometimes the the only thing we need is the creativity and ideas. I am an artist and I like to use old pictures in my art. Many people just throw their old magazines away, but I like to use them again and combine the pictures from old magazines them in a different way.
