Man is essentially selfish but when you consider what is selfishness it need not necessarily be confined to one individual. As long as an individual is single whether male or female selfishness is confined to the individual. But when she or he gets married selfishness includes self and spouse. When you beget children selfishness includes self spouse and children. When the family grows it includes all the members of the family.Suppose if you include neighbours and friends in your self then their interests are also included in your selfishness.Similarly the society you live and the country to which you belong are included your selfishness embraces the society and the country.Assuming you enlarge your self to the entire world your selfishness embraces the welfare and interests of all humanity. Therefore it follows that the selfishness depends upon the the number of people you include in yourself. This is the concept of universal brotherhood. Please share your views..

That's a nice thought. But in reality people are so insecure to have that type of ease. I think if everyone can think this way, it would be a nice world... but considering survival for food and money, I don't think I will be capable to accomplish this in my life.

What I stated is easily than done.It is a very obscure thought. One has to think about this again and again.Given the present situation in the world and human nature what it is it is very and very diffcult to expand one's self as I suggested.Anyway we can make a humble begining and see the result..

I guess you're right. Selfishness has a subjective meaning. If you care for your family exclusively, your neighbors might see you as selfish and if you care about the whole neighborhood, the other town might see you as selfish. Although there might be a degree of understanding there. Selfishness really depends on the eyes of every individual.

As you rightly say selfishness is subjective and it all depends upon the outlook of the individual. The narrower one becomes in his attitude towards others the more selfish one becomes.See Jusus Christ or Budha who embraced the entire humanity in their self became icons.Thefore expand your self and you really enjoy..
