Gas Prices

United States

I was on Facebook yesterday when I saw that a couple of my friends have agreed to "attend" an event that facebook has started about not buying gas on March 31st. Since the gas prices has started to rise, I have noticed a lot of people posting or texting for people to not buy gas on a certain day or to not buy gas from certain gas companies. Do you think that by doing any of those things will get the companies to lower gas prices or do you think they will just continue to rise? I personally don't think it would make a difference. I believe the price of gas is just going to continue to climb. I really hope I am wrong about that, but I don't see it changing. I really miss when gas was $0.98 a gallon.

I have heard about the boycott day and seriously do not believe it is going to make a difference at all. See they know that vehicles are a major important component for many and without the gas no one will be able to drive. So boycotting one day will only have customers purchasing it the next day, it is inevitable, because I would be one. I have never seen the gas as low as 98cents per gallon, I suppose it was way before I became a driver. I certainly would be grateful if it were under and or close to $3. That being realistic.

That's what I was thinking too. Just because we go a day without buying gas isn't going to make a difference because we still have to buy it. We have to work and not all of us live close enough to work to walk. Gas is something that has to be purchased. Gas was $0.98 a gallon when I was eighteen or nineteen. That's been a long time ago, at least fifteen years.

I live in a motel that is next to a truck stop and I see the price of gas all the time. I don't currently have a vehicle, but I remember having to buy gas all the time before. I really hope that I have some kind of vehicle by then because I don't like being stranded out here. As far as not buying gas on a given day, I don't know if it would do any good. I'm sure the prices will continue to climb. I remember it being .67 at one point, maybe even cheaper. But the cheaper point was before I started driving.

I've been without a vehicle before, it's not fun. I agree that the gas prices will more than likely continue to climb no matter what we do. It would be nice though if they would go back down. I know gas prices will never be below a dollar again, but I wish it would go below three dollars. Hope you are able to get a car soon.

My brother is looking into getting a van that just needs an engine. The transmission is good on it and he is getting it for the price of repairs. It will drink gas, but at least I won't have to depend on someone else to go shopping or get to appointments. We should be able to get that some time next week from what I have heard. Have a great day!

I don't see it changing. It is a shame that they let it keep going. I have a feeling the economy is going to fall deeper than it did the last time. There are fewer jobs and the ones that are getting them, are having to travel further to go to work. The pay is less, most start out is right around minimum wage. What good does it do to go to work, if you have to pay 1/2 of your paycheck in gas just to get there and home. It is going to get really bad.

I have to agree with you, Thoroughrob! It is going to get a lot worse. I have a feeling it's going to get to the point where people aren't going to be able to afford to go to work because of the gas prices.

I would hope it will make enough of a difference, but the cynic in me is taking into account the number of people out there who buy gas, but don't own an internet ready device, who just don't care about protests, or who, for whatever reason, will not be able to avoid buying gas that day. The problem with gas is that it's in such demand that the companies think they can do whatever the hell they want. However, I say go ahead with the boycott, and if it works, GREAT! :)

I would love for it to make a difference. Like you, though, I don't see it happening.

I don't believe that one day of most people not buying gas will stop the prices from going up. All due to the real reason that the gas prices are going up. the war just needs to stop in Libia and another thing that would help is USA getting gas from AMerica not foreign countries. To many problems in the other countries.

I don't think this will make a difference at all. They raise gas prices because of supply and demand. Gas always sky rockets in the winter. But, then again, Facebook can be pretty powerful. If they got enough people to boycott buying gas, they may be able to make a slight difference, but it wont over rule the power of supply and demand. But I got to say, gas prices are just extremely outrageous currently. They are predicting up to five dollars very soon!
