It's too late for this winter, but next winter I want a satin undershirt

Where do I find such a thing? I've tried the thermal underwear and the shirt I wear over them rubs against them, cotton on cotton and it's so uncomfortable. I thought if I had a satin undershirt to wear over the underwear then put on my shirt I could move around unencumbered by snagging material. Am I explaining this properly? I have no idea where to find a short sleeved or sleeveless satin shirt. I've looked at camisoles but they have no sleeves or shoulders. I'd really like to be warm and comfortable next winter. Suggestions on where to find such a shirt, please!

I looked for satin shirts but all I saw were camisoles or tank tops. I am thinking maybe you are thinking of silk undershirts. I searched for that and found some really nice ones here: http://www.wintersilks.com/viewproduct.aspx?BRANCH=1~4~&ProductDisplayID=332&dept=Silk+Long+Underwear-Ladies+Lightweight+&prod=lightweight+short+sleeve+u-neck+top or the website is www.wintersilks.com Good luck and let me know if this is what you were looking for. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

THANK YOU!! That's exactly what I was looking for! I hate the way the cotton underwear and cotton shirts I wear stick and restrict me. Thanks for the link!

I'd make some. Too many times I've looked for something specific like this and it turned out to be pretty expensive when I did find it, assuming I did. So, a long time ago I just started sewing my own things like you're describing. I've made satin slips because of exactly what you're describing. Yeah, I know what you're talking about, it feels like your clothes get all bunched up because cotton does not slide over cotton! If you want to sew your own (you could make several for the price of one already made, I have no doubt) I'm sure you could find a pattern and satin material online if you don't have any fabric stores nearby. I have JoAnne Fabrics near here and get patterns and material from there but if I can find something made from the material I want at Goodwill or Salvation Army, and it's big enough, I'll buy that cheaply, cut it up and "recycle" it using my new pattern.

You have a good idea but the last time I looked into Patterns were very expensive. Even if you use them more time.

Deebomb is right, have you looked at patterns lately? When I began sewing-and I've never been good at it-back in the 70's, patterns were $.50-$2.50. Now they're up to $11 and more for one dress! The only reason I can think of to sew my own with prices like that (material is WAY expensive, too) is better quality and the way I sew that's not a reasonable goal! Good idea but sewing is quite expensive these days. I was shocked at Christmas when I wanted thread to make a gift and it was $3 a spool!

Simplicity's "It's Sew Easy" patterns are only about $3.00 but I understand what you're saying. Good luck in your search! I hope the link that Schultzie gave you works and they have what you're looking for. If not, you could try Goodwill or shops like that. Other than that, I'd have no idea where to look except for online. It's a shame the old, large department stores aren't around anymore. I used to LOVE going downtown and shopping at Hutzler's, Hecht's, Stewart's, Hochschild Kohn's, etc. These were MASSIVE high-end department stores in Baltimore. ( http://www.btco.net/ghosts/Buildings/deptstores/deptstores.html ) They sold the very best clothing, along with anything else you could possibly want. Sadly, the discount stores closed these stores down, one by one. The end of an era. If they still existed, I'd personally make a trip to Baltimore to see if they sold what you're looking for, for a selfish reason of course. I would LOVE to visit those stores one more time. They had such ambiance! You know the type, I'm sure, with the hair salon and a lunch counter in the store. Ah, memories!

I do know Just what you mean. The cotton and other fabric just don't want to slide into place. It makes putting clothes on or off much harder. As schulzie pointed out is a site I found too. The price seems some what reasonable at about $25.00. Plus shipping and handling. They do have some long sleeve and 3/4 sleeves as well as short and sleeveless.

I'm going to be keeping an eye on them too. They will be easier to manage with my arthritis. I have a devil of a time getting dressed in winter

I'm marking that for next winter! Maybe they'll have a clearance, I'll check every week and see if anything is on sale. I'm so glad I asked, I looked and looked but I guess I wasn't using the proper search terms. Thanks!

No no no, you're doing it wrong. We find it very easy here at sexy lingerie shops - yes you heard me. The places where you can buy all kinds of sexy lingerie and costumes sell this kind of satin under shirts that you are looking for. I bet there are plenty of sites in the USA so give it a mylot search :)

Leave it to a youngster to simplify things! I never would have thought of that, Elitess! I will find those sites and check for clearance sales--I'm very, very tight with money--and bookmark them for next year if I find nothing at the moment. Thanks!

I was going to place my response but upon reading many of the responses I see that many have already duplicated what I was going to suggest. Then I saw yours, interesting as much as I shop for lingerie I would have never thought there so I did look at one of my favs and would not known but Fredricks of Hollywood outlets does carry them. We live and learn and each day on myLot I learn. lol.. Thanks for that.

I think I've seen them in my LLBean catalogs. I've purchased the winter underwear for women but not the satin stuff. I'm sure you could find some silks or satins through a search.

Hiya dragon, Did I look for that satin shirt. A lot of them are way overpriced for what they are and they are a bit too fancy to wear underneath something so the nearest thing I found was on overstock.com at the moment. Still a bit pricey I think for what you want. Perhaps others can come up with something cheaper. You know like in those outlet Shops they have where they have certain items much cheaper because they only have certain sizes left and colour availability in stock. Overstock is the best one I have seen up to yet. I buy offline you see I did look on buy.com but they are too fancy to put on underneath any case you can still eye them over and see what you think. I still think that the local Market would be your best place to look for this kind of Clothing. That is all I have had time to find up to now.

I haven't found them locally, even at a price that I would deem too much to spend. I did not think of overstock but I'll check it out, maybe they have some clearance and I could earn more on MyPoints that way.

Hiya dragon, Did you get to buy any of those Satin Shirts then? Hope you found a good bargain. Find any nice ones and nice colours then? Have been seeing those Satin things again in the Catalogue here but way too pricey to put on under anything. I use nice T-shirts underneath sometimes under light Jumpers. Even when it´s really cold I don´t like chunky Jumpers. xxx

I would think you would be able to find something like this where they sell like Bras and underwear maybe or where they sell slips and camisoles. I know I own a camisole that is silk that I have wore underneath things. The one I have is sleeveless like a slip, and is one I think I got at Macy's a couple of yrs. back.

I always heard that for the best comfort to wear silk under wear, like t shirts or under shirts and even long johns or thermals. Wanting to be warm, I would go to LL Bean. They are so great to have warm clothes. Not cheap, but well made. Also, maybe the Old Vermont Store. The other thing would be to look this summer for satiny night clothes that are the cut that you want.

I do wish they'd find some way to make thermals out of satin or silk. I don't like wasting money on heating but I don't like to be cold either. I've been wearing a sweater instead and it's rather bulky so the links others gave me will make next year much more comfy and warm!

That's what I was talking about, dressing in layers. But when the bottom layer rubs against the next it constricts my movements and is very uncomfortable!

Good morning, dragon. Often, I find "satin" and/or "synthetic satin" pajamas in Thrift Shops at very reasonable prices. Gosh, just before Christmas, I bought two pairs of satin p.j.'s (like them for sleeping in for the same reason) at a Ladies Auxillary Thrift Shop...and I do know, that they were less than $10.00 for both pair...OR I wouldn't have bought them...LOL! (I am a might cheap when it comes to buying for me!) One pair is cap sleeved, one pair long sleeved! Just a thought!

OMG...I did forget to mention, there is a process when I come home from a Thrift Shop! Firstly, all bags, etc., are carried in the box of my Truck, and then the bags, with contents go straight to the Freezer, where they stay until I am doing laundry...and being old school, I still believe in hot water washes. From all my research the freezing both kills "bb's" and larvae from any other obnoxious pests..and washing, the rest is history! A bit of a process, but I cannot afford to shop anywhere else...AND I do remember reading lots of warnings that a lot of NEW clothes, household linens, were hosts for these mites, too! Many warehouses, stock rooms infected! Just my take on things..and so far, so good! There was a TV show some time ago, Marketplace, or something like that where at "fellow" back East, had developed a machine, using freezing, blasted from a vacuum like machine and he was highly successful and totally in demand, ridding those pests. Cheers!

That's a great idea, thank you!! I wash in very hot water, too, when I need to. (however, hot water can "set" stains made by dirt, sweat and mud, you need cold water for those) I know heat kills bb's and the freezer would probably do so, too. Why did I not think of that?! Thank you!

I used to buy from thrift shops almost exclusively since I'm a tightwad, too! But this past year there has been such a problem with bedbugs in this country and reports that they've been brought to peoples' houses from thrift stores and even movie theaters. It's a chance I'm not willing to take! They are very difficult to get rid of since we aren't allowed any more to use the chemicals that kill them. You surely found a good buy!

I think that you got your answer but I thought that I'd enter the fray anyway. Have you tried outdoor type stores? I have a sports undershirt that keeps me warm but not sweaty. It's not cotton or silk but it does breathe. My BIL sends me silk socks from Singapore as they keep my feet much warmer than cotton. Good luck with your quest.

Oh, those silk socks sound wonderful! I have never found any of those here but I did find some bamboo socks that were marked down so much that I bought two pair. They are heavenly! Soft, warm and keep the sweat away. Now, of course, there is no sign of them. I'm going to look for some silk socks to try. I don't splurge on too many things but basic bodily comfort is an important factor to enjoying life in general.

Try searching the internet for "silk undergarments". I had a catalog last fall that had several pages of silk undergarments, but I don't have it now and don't remember the name of the company.

I have put those search terms on my calendar reminder for next August and September! Sometimes I don't use the right search terms--I used to be able to find anything but lately my skills aren't so good for some reason. Thank you!
