The VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) gave my husband a surprise.

They sang Hapyy Birthday to him, had a little candle on a cup cake, and gave him a Mylar Balloon filled with helium. They also gave him wine and a gas gift card. The gas gift card will come in handy for volunteering for the VFW and Civil Air Patrol since he doesn't have a job right now and the price of gas has gone up. We don't drink alcohol, so we'll give it to some friends who have done a lot for us that I know are moderate drinkers. They offered to take it back, but since we know someone who could use it and they would have to buy something else creating more of a hassle for people in their 70s and 80s, he said no we can find a way to use it. If no one wants it, I can cook with it. We just don't drink the stuff. So have you ever been surprised on your birthday? Have you gotten presents that were right on the mark like the gas card? Have you ever gotten a present that is a little off the mark like alcohol to non-drinkers? Are you gracious no matter what the present? Do you consider the thought?

That's nice. I most always consider the thought, but there are those gifts that really come in handy. A gas card right now rocks! I suppose a fruit cake is the most off the mark gift I have ever got. I think it had been passed around a bit before it reached me.

My husband likes fruitcake. He buys about 3 small ones every year before Christmas. Yes, a gas card really does rock. Exp. since the cheapest one at our little store is $25. Thanks and take care.

how nice! i was reading on facebook today that my hubby's little brother bought his wife a cleaning service for their anniversary. i guess she was pretty surprised! as for me, i guess my best suprise was a Christmas present from 2 bosses at 2 different times. one was a gift card for Chapters/Indigo (its like Barnes and Nobles, but here in Canada) and the other was this past year and was a $30 gift certificate for a restaurant, which all 4 of us enjoyed (hubby and girls).

That sounds wonderful! I'd take any of those presents. I hate to clean, so if someone would clean for me, I'd be happy. I love to read. I also love to eat. Bet you did enjoy the restaurant. Thanks and take care.
