You know what I really hate?!?!?

I called the phone number and got this message: Please enjoy the music while your party is located. NO!!!!! I'm not enjoying the music. The woman was about 75, but her grandchild (or maybe great-grandchild) had programmed the phone to have some Lady GaGa stuff as you wait. Grrr. What would possess a young 'n to put something like that on Granny's phone. Surely she knows that most of the calls she gets are from people who are Baby Boomers or older. Surely she should understand that we are NOT enjoying the music she chose. I wonder....what happened to just listening to a ringing phone?

Hi, kenzie....The kid didn't think of grandma's callers. She was just thinking of herself. On second thought; she didn't think at all. I dislike having to hold to Muzak when calling professional offices and certainly wouldn't want GaGa noise in my ear when phoning a friend. I don't like ring tones either. I've looked but haven't been able to find a tone for my phone that just sounds like a telephone ringing. General telephone rudeness is one of my peeves and I don't want to get into a tome here as that's a whole 'nuther 'wormy can'.

You're right. The kid wasn't thinking. It's bad enough that you have to wait listening to music when you call businesses and government offices. Please don't make me listen to music when I'm calling friends and relatives too. Grrr. Rudeness? Now that's a topic that we could go on and on about.

YOYO: I know old-fashioned "ringing phone" tones are available, because ElicBehxen (sp?) has one. Try asking her where she got it! You could go yo my profile to find her address. She answers my discussions frequently. Maggiepie "Ye can paint a crow white, but that ain't gonna make it a dove." ~ "Mags," fictional character from author Mercedes Lackey, in "Intrigues"

Thanks, Maggie. I suppose I could do a search but then I'd probably be inundated with a lot of spam in my email. I think Elic is on my friend list. Appreciate the help.

I do not enjoy to hear any music and to wait when I am calling : even a lullaby makes me angry . Maybe does this grandmother enjoys Lady Gaga ? Since I have heard a Led Zeppelin's ring tone on the phone of a 70 years woman, I think that everything is possible.

I doubt that she even know who Lady Gaga is or what she sounds like. She's more the Guy Lombardo kind of gal.

I prefer rings, but it seems we may not have that choice very much longer. Choice is the entire issue and a young person who forces his/her choice on an older one is exploiting the situation, and vice versa. It would be wrong for me, an "older person" to insist a young person program their phone to suit me. Oh, and when they are trying to "find my party" I wonder a) have they been misplaced? or b) is it a fun party?

Yeah same here when I call my work colleagues or my other friends from my cell I don't hear their cell ringing in my earpiece but a rap song.I do also have a caller tune.I think caller tune is much better than just listening to a ringing phone. But listening Lady GaGas stuffs? Well its way different..Lol

Perhaps it's a generational thing. I'd much prefer ringing. At least then I know that the phone is still working and I'm not listening to music I loathe for nothing.

I suppose I could put the phone on "speaker" then go about my business instead of listening.

Personally. I wouldn't let myself get so upset over something so trivial.

Can you imagine what would happen if we suddenly had no cell phone service and no computers? I think some people would die.

Generally speaking, I hate it when people take advantage of the older generation. I have worked in nursing homes and with some adult disabled people who are about my age. The young staff seem to think they might enjoy MTV on the television and put channels on when the adult does not have the ability to change it. That is actually exploitation.

I am sorry you do not get to see your mother often. We teach and train staff, but either they have the heart for the care of they do not.

That's horrible. I wonder sometimes why people work with the elderly when they can't stand them. You see it in the home where my mother is. She's about 8-9 hours away, so I don't get to see her that often. But when I do, I notice the jewels who love and care for the elderly and those who are there just to have a job.

Oh, I hate that too!! I really really hate that, especially, since I have to hold the phone up to my ear, in order to wait for the party to pick up. AArRGGHH!!! Now, if I could choose music that would do that, I'd put on some nice classical, or something nice and soothing by Vice Vukov. you know, easy listening stuff!!! Lady Gaga? Are they effing crazy?

Can you believe? I'm with you. I'd put on something classical or soothing. Something that won't be objectionable to MOST people.

It's always something that I don't want to listen to, that I wouldn't choose to listen to. I find it extremely annoying. I would love to have the option to not listen to the music, like press 1 for a regular ring or press nothing to keep with the music. I wonder what happened to the ringing phone as well. I mean, what's wrong with a ringing phone? I know people like to personalize their rings so they know who's calling and to show their personalities and all that, but why make everyone that calls listen to it as well?

I got a message the other day that press 1 was for Spanish. Boy did that tick me off.

I like the option of "press 1" to listen to ringing instead of music.

Nah...they wouldn't do that. Press 1 is reserved for English, the 2 is reserved for Spanish and the 3 for something else. And that's a whole other discussion!!

Hi Kenzie, I hate automated systems and music playing while I hold, it is never good music to listen to, I am like you just prefer to ring someone and have them pick up the phone. Huggles. Ellie :D

Thanks, Ellie. I guess the only thing worse than hearing music while you wait is to hear commercials while you wait. I've had that happen when holding for the doctor's office and businesses.

Yeah. The message that insists you enjoy the music while the party is located is odd. Like GardenGerty above, it makes me wonder where the party is. Or how did the person get lost? I love music too, of all kinds. (Well, most kinds.) But for some reason listening to it as I hold aggravates me.

Do you think that it is possible that your friend who you phoned does not know how to set the music? Because my grandma had a ring tone that she thought came with the phone, and she didnt know how to change it, i had to show her. If i was you, i would tell her that this is the case, and ask her if this is what she wants. if it isnt , offer to change it for her, letting her choose which ringtone to replace it with. Hope it works!

Thanks. I know that she knows how to change her own ring tone, because we talked about that. The one she picked last was not loud enough for her. I'm not sure if she knows how to set the music that you hear when you wait. Long ago, when people just had answering machines, I used to suggest to friends and relatives that they call their own phone to see how it sounds. I've also suggested that to people who have cell phones. You really don't know how something sounds until you've experienced it.

maybe it's her favorite music and just want to share with the world :) i really don't know why she put it up to be her waiting music but i guess there's a reason and maybe just talk to her about it later for now just look on the possible sides and don't bother by it anymore :)
