Do the categories displayed at the top after logging in mylot depend on the interests shown by a particular mylotter? If a particular mylotter has not shown a particular category as his interest, will a new topic belonging to that category be displayed after logging in mylot? If such a mylotter likes to respond to any topic which he has not shown as a category of his interest, is it possible? If yes, how is it possible?

the icons showing at the top of the page are those of the interests that you have added. The one to the left of your screen is the interest where the most recent discussion was started. You will NOT see the icons of the interests that you have not added. You can see all of the discussions that are active in the 'recent' tab and you should refresh it often as all the discussions with the most recent activity are shown there. You can respond on EVERY discussion, even if you have not added the interest.

I generally use the 'New' tab to see the newest discussions (in whatever interest). The 'recent' tab shows the most recently active discussions (in any interest). I still haven't worked out what the difference is between 'today's top' and 'hot'!

I prefer 'recent' because there absolutely everything appears - old, new and those which shouldn't be here at all

Yes upon logging in the categories displayed at the top after logging in are the discussions listed as per the myLotter preference. If a myLotter had not selected an interest then the myLotter will not see it on the top of the displayed categories because the myLotter did not subscribe to them. If a myLotter has not selected an interest the discussions will not show in the categories at the top. So if you want to see all discussions I generally check the new tab button where it will show all discussions started. The recent discussion tab will show you recent activity to any discussion that recently had responses to it. Hope this helps, I tried to paragraph each as per your questions.

No, it shows what particular categories have been used lately. It isn't possible. Whatever category a mylotter choses to start a discussion with shows up there and nothing else. You can go to the regular 'categories', pick one and start a discussion that way. But I have something in my options that will work and I rarely go there.

The interest shown at the top are only your interests. You can indeed respond to discussions not started in your interests. Under "discussions", select "new" or "recent" to show all discussions started -- and responded for "recent" -- under all interests available at myLot. Indeed, you can also respond to discussions started by your friends in other interests than yours, if you have chosen to receive notifications for these friends.

Yes, I guess it looks that way. those interests are those of the myloter users choices.
