Another internship position

I fail to see the point of making students search for crappy internship positions just with the motivation that they have to do something related with their college. I would very much like to do an internship with an ecological organization rather then searching for a secretary ( assistant manager) position for instance. Yes, this is kind of a rant, because I searched for over 4 hours now, and even for being an assistant manager (that means you assist so you are LEARNING) you have to have 2 years of experience (which of course i DON'T have) in this field. I have barely found 2 locations to apply online, one of which is an ecological organization, but i might not be able to get into an accepted position there and only be a free work hand, which would be okay from time to time, if i did not have to consider that i need a FULL MONTH worth of an internship in management marketing or finance (and i do hate being an accountant) so i don't really know what i can do. If i don't do this internship, nor do i find a relevant paper that can state i made this internship somewhere even if it's not true, but someone can vouch for it, i can't finish my master degree. As this is mostly a rant, i don't have many questions but this: Have you ever been forced to do something else than what you wanted (work related of course) ?

Hi Elitess, I can understand your frustration here, my own daughter graduated last july and instead in working in her field she is now a receptionist just so that she has some form of work to survive, granted it is at Porche and she gets to frive one round Silverstone for the afternoon but she took a psychology degree not how to answer a phone and look pretty one. Good luck in your search, don't really know what else to say here. huggles. Ellie :D

Hey Ellie. Well i will probably that particular problem a bit later on this year, after i come back from Greece with Anca and start looking for work. For now i have been contacted back by an environment organization here, but i don't know if i will be able to connect it in anyway with the practice i need for the MBA... Well tomorrow is another day, maybe something will arise.

Hi Alice it wouldn't surprise me either if they had a degree in being pretty lol, hers is in psychology though but no vacancies available in that field at present. Good luck with getting your grant. Huggles. Ellie :D

I never let they make me do what I dont want to hahah...but what you are saying is completly true and it makes me soooooooo upset! I dont know why they do that when they say that they want us to be good professionals..I really dont know. if i want to be somebody i will work on my own goals and not going from a side to another side.

Oh yes, my whole working life was doing things I didn't want to do but it was because I did not persevere and complete my college education. So I have no one to blame but me. I do remember the frustration of trying to find a position and they all wanted experience--it was a "catch 22" kind of thing, no experience so you can't get a job but you can't get experience without a job! Keep on looking, there has to be something. Do you have guidance counselors there that might help? Can you go to an organization and ask them to create an internship for you since it won't cost them any money?

Sorry to hear that elitess. Dont give up hope and see it as a stepping stone towards doing something that you would really love.^_^ To answer your question, Im currently doing it. I mean Im working at something but I would really wish to do something else. I cant leave my current occupation because it's actually a family obligation. I really dont mind the work but my heart is just in another kind of workplace. I still do have hopes of working at something that I love even for a short time and come back to the family obligation. I just wish some time for myself in doing what I love, even a short time at it would be enough for me. Well, take care my friend and goodluck with that internship.^_^

I appreciate your rant because gaining the experience required is impossible if no one will give you a job because you have no experience! Sometimes I wonder if it comes down to luck by finding someone who would be willing to give you a break regardless your level of proficiency. It is a matter of finding somewhere where you can learn. I experienced similar frustrations when I was younger and all I can say think as positively as possible and hang in there. Good luck elitess.

I want to start a business but I am forced to finish college, with a liberal arts degree. I am studying social and behavioral sciences and I have learned that I can't stand social research. Even with an unimportant thing like my senior project I am frustrated that it is not going the way I want it to, because my project "mentor" does not understand the research goals that I am going for. I hate working under professors who think they know so much more than students just because they have a PhD. They don't even read my research and they claim to know what I am talking about even though they have no idea what point I am trying to make. Their research is tied to their own moral ideas, which are different from my own, and it makes me so appalled that they have such rigid ways of thinking. This is why I no longer want to be a social scientist, but I have to finish my degree to please my family.
