I went to the grocery store this morning, I knew I was in trouble because I brought my starving stomach to shop... I planned to spend $50 since I have a $5 coupon, when I spend over $50, I get $5 off. So I was too hungry, I just wanted everything so I ended up buying more than I wanted to, oh well, it is not a waste, that means I don't need to do food shopping soon. Are you disciplined about this? I think it is common for lots of people, I'm one of them

hi there, i don't usually spend my money on other things like clothes UNLESS i really really like it like it really caught my attention. but when it comes to food, i cant control myself. i think maybe because in the back of my mind, i know i am very skinny and so i just need to keep on eating a lot so i can some more weight too. but at least we spend our money on food, and yeah at least you don't have to go out again to buy some more food. it is always nice to have like a reserve or some stocks just in case

and yeah i think i am also not disciplined when it comes to this. i just realized that because of that, i sometimes spend the money for some other important things. okay, i think i will have to be more disciplined when it comes to this, I'll just eat a lot when i am home so i don't have to spend that much when i am out hehehe

i think it is still okay, as long as we don't put to waste the food we buy. we need food more than anything else, it is our essential need. i think you are doing a good job take care and God Bless

Whenever I go shopping in a grocery store, I make sure that I am full. I know myself; I'm an impulse buyer. When I'm hungry while shopping, I have a tendency to buy more foods that is out not included in my "To-Buy-List". My husband and I have an agreement to have a date first in a restaurant before shopping to make sure that our budget won't be off track :)

Yeah you're right. Going on date before shopping is really effective to save our money.

Never go to the store hungry, that's just the way it is. You usually end up buying way too much but glad for you it wasn't a waste. I like how stores have deli's and the such because then you can go by and get you some food, go to the register and pay for it, and eat it while you're shopping. That's what I'd do if I got too hungry and it started effecting my shopping too much.

I often have this problem when I go grocery shopping with an empty stomach. Sometimes I couldn't help myself and buy more things that I wouldn't even think of if I was not hungry. I try to stick to a budget, but then I would think, I could buy this one thing and I could start eating it in the car...

See, that is the reason why I tend to go shopping on a full stomach. That way, I won't be sorely tempted to get a lot of things there, that I'm just hungry for. Trust me, when hungry, logic does tend to fly straight out the window. Therefore, I am thinking with my stomach, instead of my brain. I know my limits and I know that I am just a mere mortal. If I eat before, I'm less likely to get a lot of things that I don't really need. Of course, avoiding certain aisles that I do not need to go do down to, can help slightly but stores are rather cunning in getting our attention, with deals and sales and all those things. So its a really bad idea to go to the store on a full stomach. Its just asking for a lot of trouble.

Normally I am discipline while spending but I am afraid to say that if I am hungry my tummy always wins. I find it is never a good idea for me to go grocery shopping when hungry because I want to buy absolutely everything in site. LOL.. Now is I am not hungry it can be a bad thing too because then some things do not appeal and I won't buy nearly enough. So I try my best to go when I am not hungry and stick with my list. So you are right I am one of those too who while hungry want the entire store. LOL

Right, sometimes when I'm way full, I have no intension to shop food but I still have to do it, I will have no idea of what to cook for the next week. So it's better to go a little bit after you eat so we won't do crazy and we still have ideas of what to buy.

Personally, this is a Good rule of thumb. Make yourself a list before going Grocery shopping and also try and stick to the list. Also never go shopping on an empty stomach or you end up buying more than you were planning on and usually will forget some of the necessities as well. I know that it is one thing we try to do for sure is make sure we just ate when going Grocery shopping for sure.

It is common for people to buy more at the grocery store if they are hungry while shopping. I was reading tips to save when one goes shopping, and that was actually one of them. Studies have shown people spend more than they planned to when they went grocery shopping while hungry. I actually try to be hydrated as well. I've noticed for me if I'm shopping and thirsty, I end up buying more beverages. As crazy as that sounds.

Oh man there is nothing worse than grocery shopping on a hungry tummy!!! lol I've done this one too many times. I swear I never learn. It's amazing to see the difference in your shopping carts and what you spend though whether you go on a empty or full tummy. My hubby and I have tried to make Friday nights our grocery night. We go AFTER dinner. It's much safer that way! Some weeks when we can't make it then and end up going on a Saturday morning or something, I can definitely tell the difference!

Maybe you are stimulate for the moment of whim. When I have this craving for particular item or food, or when I want to buy something I am hungry for, I might overspend the budget. That is not a smart move, isn't it? I wish that I can discipline myself too.

Yes, this always happens to me--I bring a list and try to stick to it, but I buy impulse items even when I'm not hungry, so when I do shop while I'm hungry, I end up buying even more! But, I agree with you, it does mean I have to shop less often, so I guess there's a benefit to this type of shopping too.

One of the saving tips that I read is not to go shopping when you have an empty stomach. Going shopping can be exhilarating and tiring. So you better eat first otherwise you may see yourself eating in your favorite resto or buying more than what you intended to buy in a grocery store. We do our weekly grocery on weekends and prepare a sumptuous lunch when we get home. We try to stay within our budget but sometimes as a treat to our kid, we go to a fastfood chain for lunch.

hi there! I guess that is why it is not advisable to go shopping with a hungry stomach! because it will just make you buy more than what you really need. Anyway as long as it will not be put into waste its fine with me...hehe On my part, I don't usually go shopping when I am hungry, because it makes me feel weak looking around the supermarket and it makes me feel like I wanna go home! So usually I eat in the house or I just eat in a nearby resto, but still it will ruin my budget...huh! I am not really very good and disciplined on this thing coz sometimes even if I am not hungry and even if I have a list still I spend more than what I should have spend, I am kinda an impulse buyer which I hope to change sooner...

i totally understand, i'm always in the same situation, so i learned to only bring a budget of cash with me. If i only plan to spend $30, i'll just bring $30 cash with me. If i plan to spend $50, i'll just bring $50 cash with me, no less, no more than that. That way i will not overspend or buy more than i planned to. Best advise is also to have a full stomach before going to shop for grocery .

That's a good thought! I do that only with clothes, shoes and stuff shopping though because I don't want to miss it if I see something that I want to get to cook at the supermarket.

Hi, Normally when I did my grocery shopping, I will have in mind what things to buy. Mostly I will shop for fresh vegetables, chicken, fishes and fruits. Once a while, I will buy some titbits to be snacked at home. As for daily necessity, normally I will buy them when it runs low. Before I started my shopping, I have to make sure I have enough money to pay,or else, I will reduce my shopping list and just get whatever necessary first.

i am so bad at shopping when i am hungry. Me and my partner go to shopping together and if i am hungry i buy two packets of each confectioneries and my hubby goes 'are you serious'. I cannot wait to get out of the supermarket and munch on the things i just bought.
