Last Sunday I was with my uncle’s home. They live in farm after he had been retired from Government of India service. Their home is just near to a lake, the water is fresh, there could be seen small fishes, a small boat is ready, rope is tied from one lake end to other. The other side is full of bushes and trees. During night there is nice wind. It so nice to see sunset and sunrise when those rays fell on the water of the lake, I feel like I am in a fantasy world. The other areas are full of grass with wild flowers. Aunty is found of goats and cats. There are lots of goats and about 5 cats. More than that I would like to spend the time on the balcony that view the lake that long lake with both side full of trees and grass. Many people had asked my uncle this property which he got from his father. Once I requested my uncle not to give this place to anybody. He just replied no way my dear son.

Your uncle's home must be one for the movies, where someplace laid back is home to some good soul brave enough to weather the wilds, and gentle enough to be kind to visitors, and happy enough to be at peace with himself. That is what you are after, too. I like that also, to have a quiet home by the river, by the lake, or a cottage near the sea...

Moreover it is would be much better if that river do not overflow especially during those rainy season, I hope the river may not go wild. I like a clam river.

It sounds like summer camp. I used to go summer camps when I was younger and it sounded a little bit like the lodge that we used to go to. There are three one-story lodges. Their is also a lake and flower garden. They did not have goats and cats though. I know what you are saying. It's really amazing when you are from the city and see scenery like this. Everything seems so relax and time seems to slow down. The house you are describing sounds beautiful. You're right. He should never sell it and I don't think your uncle is planning on selling it anytime soon.

When we sit near any water body like river, lake, pond, etc., it gives us peace and calmness. Whenever I am disturbed, I used to go to a nearby pond and sit at the bank of it. It makes me tension free. Really it is very good for a person to have such a house or farmhouse. Where you uncle live in India? In my village also there are two big ponds where I always go whenever I am there. I try to swim as I am learning swimming and enjoy a lot in water. During summer, evenings there are wonderful. Allover greenery and smell of water and plants.

We live near a lake here in our country. It was a beautiful lake before but now its already polluted. There's a lot of good memories from that lake and there's worse too. When our country was hit by typhoons, the lake overflowed and reach our house. The water was waist-high so we fled to safety.

Luckily this lake is not polluted there is always nice flow of water. Moreover this is high range, hilly area.

I agree, it would be very relaxing. I would not want a lot of land though, as I am not sure I could care for it anymore.

It does sound very lovely. I love goats too and I have 2. I'm lucky that I live in a house on a faily large block of land. I'd say it's 21/2 times the size of a regular block. Across the road is the lagoon but it's not the same as having a lake handy.

I wouldn't mind a house near a lake, but not too near. My sister lives in the countryside and has a great lake where there are fish and many different types of bird, but it is down a slope quite a way from the house. I would never have a river-side house. They look really good, but here in the UK there has been a lot of problems with flooding and some people lost their homes. Rivesr are nice to look at, but they bring problems. _Derek

Our Lake At Dusk - This was taken at dusk when there was very little sunlight left. That's why it's so dark and "bluish".
Maybe you will inherit this property one day. That would be wonderful! I live in a place like you described. I was 55 when we moved here almost four years ago now. I have wanted to live in the country with enough land to have a small farm all my life but never quite made it until we moved here. It's not real big but we do have 3 1/2 acres of land and quite a lot of lake frontage. (See photo.) It's not a large lake but it's large enough and we do have fish, mostly small but some nice medium-sized fish. I also own a small boat so I can get out to the middle of the lake and not have to fish from the deck that overhangs the water. The photo was taken at dusk which is why it looks blue-ish. It is part of our property. I feel exactly the same way as you described feeling at your uncle's home. It is so peaceful and relaxing here. I would not trade it for anything. I have wanted to live in a place like this since I was a little girl. It only took me 55 years but I finally made it. I hope you will have a place like this one day, too.

We live right on the lake. It is nice to have a lake where we live. The water is warm, kids like to catch some sunfish and swim there in the summer. We often see ducks, goose or swans in the lake. It looks like a picture or post cards when the sun is going down, you can see the reflection on the lake.

Oh gosh yes it would be wonderful. I would find it so very therapeutic to walk long side the lake and or simply sit and stare outwardly into the river. I do love landscapes as well I also find them to be very good for the soul to simply stare at them while enjoying the aromas.

I think it is a nice retiring place. I really love to retire anywhere with a lake. I think I like it better than one which is near the sea as I wouldn't have to be bothered by tsunami incidents. It could be pretty scary. But if I can't find one, I think I can settle for a farm house with all those animals to take care of and probably an orchard. I like to grow my own garden. I find serenity whenever I see and hear water flowing. So maybe, I can make my own man made pond in lieu of the lake.

Me too... I love to have a house near a river/lake/ or it can be in a beach. I don't know why but I can feel peace from within I am in that place, but sometimes there is a pros and cons living in that kind of place. Because of the Tsunami in Japan.

Personally it would be nice to be around something like this especially if you had a lot of Free time to enjoy it, but around here in this part of the US it is also quite expensive if you want to own property around something like this, and a lot of extra upkeep for sure. But my FIL does live on a man made lake so we go out there a couple times a yr. especially in the summer to enjoy the scenery and things there for sure.

It sounds like your uncle lives in a fantastic location. Being next to a lake must be very quiet and peaceful. The area around it must be very so relaxing to spend time in. The balcony that overlooks the lake sounds like it has the perfect view. am fond of seeing the sunset. Last year I moved from my house to a bungalow. At that house from upstairs I had a view of the river and the green fields. In the very early morning there was a lovely orange sunset over the countryside. I had to move because my son that doesn't walk was getting too heavy to carry. Now I have a view of green grass and a tree. I would love to live overlooking a beach.

I would love a house on a lake. Or on an OCEAN!! Except for the downside, which is of course flooding and/or hurricanes/tsunamis (if you were by the ocean anyway). Maybe one day..

hi shamrack, Oh yes! I would love to have a house by the lake or river. But I should have lots and lots of money before I could have one. I would love to have a glass house by the lake like the one at "The Lake House" (a movie starring Sandra Bullock and Keannu Reeves)..LOL! I love that house.

hi there. i would love to have a house near the lake too but because of the calamities and natural disasters that are going on lately, it is kind of scary already. but it would be very nice because i really love the beach or even just the lake. and it would also be very nice if i also had my own boat . hmmm if i were you're uncle, i would sell the property too, because it is from his father. he can just pass it maybe to the next generation
