April 1st, a different thing for me; besides ‘April fool’ day.

I live in a city in the state Orissa (Now called Odissa) of India. Earlier parts of my state were merged in the state now known as Chhatisgarh, (earlier it was Madhya Pradesh) and neighboring states. 75 years back on 1st April this was reorganized, and the present Odissa state was formed. So here in my state 1st April was celebrated as UTKAL DIVAS, Utkal means Odissa and Divas means day. April first was holiday all offices, schools, colleges remained closed. There were debate competitions, fancy dress competitions, dancing etc. In one such I was the guest of honor. I am giving below an extract of the data I presented there. The present population of India as per 2011 census is 121 crores, one crore is the number that is represented as a one followed by 7 zeros; ten million. My state has a population of 4,19, 47, 358, population growth is @ 13.97%; population density is 269,overall literacy is 73.45%, for male it is 82.40% and for female it is 64.36%. Im an indian too, i live in Kolkata, and here nothing special happens on 1st april, well not for me atleast, the only thing worth mentioning was my mom tried to fool me on the day before i went for class and she failed to do that and we all had a good laugh, rest was like same as other boring days.

Wow!! I never realized India was growing that fast. This is some interesting information you shared. Besides being April 1st, and April Fools day here, even though it was incredibly busy at work that night, it was a good day for me. It was a day of planning and structure as to what I need to be doing next in life when considering moving on to a better job yet also closer to where I live.

Hello Dear Professor Bhuvan Sahab! For me first day of April is a great as my parents got married on this day. Today I am 51 ! I lost my father four years back! When ever we brothers and sister used to call my parents to wish them,my father used to tell us that he got fooled on this day my marrying my mother! Later on we just used to wish him that happy April fool's day and he used to reciprocate the wish with his loud laughter! Now he is no more just we remember the sweet memories! After the departure of my father I dare not call my mother if she is not staying me with me on this day (she likes to stay with any one of we three brothers and one sister) fearing that she may feel bad about my fathers demise, but my sister (only sister) takes liberty to call her! So for me the 1st of April is really special day, because of which to day I am here in this World! Thanks!
