Mutual Fund earnings in the Philippines

I've read that the annual gains from a mutual fund is not simply NAVPS multiplied by your number of shares. Rather, fees (like management fees, distribution fees, etc) are also deducted. Can someone please help explain to me how exactly is the net earnings of my mutual fund calculated on an annual basis? And also please include tax. By the way, on the subject of tax, does having a mutual fund qualify as having "Other Sources of Income", meaning I have to file for my income tax return separately? I am employed in a company that files my income tax at the end of the year on my behalf.
