Should the FA cup semi-finals be at wembly ?

April 10, 2011 8:41am CST
Next weekend is the semifinals of the FA cup in England. The matches are Stokes City vs Bolton and Manchester United vs Manchester City and both the matches are at Wembly. This is a recent thing as they used to be at neutral venues between the two clubs. All the teams are a lot more northern than wembly and more fitting venues could have been Old Trafford for Stoke vs Bolton and Anfield or Villa Park for the Manchester match and save Wembly for the final. Wahat do you think ?

I think the FA cup, 4th round onwards should have 2 legs each like the UEFA champions league system, one home and one away. The final should be held at a neutral location! This system makes the cup a more prestigious win for clubs!

what a great idea that has been mooted for years.however in a season you only have so many weeks that you can play league and cup matches.with top clubs playing in uefa competitions and breaks for the world cup and european championships qualifiers there is simply no time for these games to be played over 2 legs.i suppose it could be done if they cut down the number of teams in the leagues to manage it but can you see any club voting to lose there league status.ie all leagues cut to 18 including the prem thats never going to get passed in any vote for change so we are stuck with a one leg game. ps semis should not be played at wembley as i think it takes the glamour out of the final for the clubs involved

It dont think the semi-finals should be held in Wembley. It somehow devalue the honour of playing in wembley. It should be held in a neutral stadium and only leaves the final in the national stadium.

I saw the semi between Man City and Man United. It was really a needle clash with Man City winning the match 1-0 thanks to a goal by Yaya Toure. Coming to your question of whether it should be played at Wembley, I think it is a fair choice. See as long as two matches are there the home and away style works, but for single knockout style matches I prefer to have it at a neutral venue. Of course, the real logic of the FA Cup being held at Wembley has been purely financial due to the cost borne by FA to get the new Wembley in shape!! Cheers! Ram
