An Incredibly Silly and Inconsequential Discussion

I was reading someone's discussion over on Gather, and she mentioned zombies (in a funny reference). And it got me to thinking about the supernatural craze that has been going on in the last few years. From vampires to werewolves to zombies to witches... Where are you in that craze? Do you have a favorite supernatural entity? I guess if I had to pick, and I haven't really been a super crazy fan of anything, I think I'd pick vampires. I'd never want to be one, but I find them entertaining in movies and TV shows. And I guess books should be included in that reference. How long do you think this craze will last? What is your favorite supernatural being? What got you into that craze? Parents, are your kids into this stuff and does it drive you nuts, or are you fully into the fun with them?

I'd have to say vampires too, tho I'd really prefer Time Lords... well, ONE Time Lord in particular!

Are we talking about Dr. Who? Because when I see your screen name two things come to mind: cats and Dr. Who.

Why, yes, yes we are talking Doctor Who And I am HONORED to know that you think of cats and Doctor Who when you see my screen name! oh, just finished the Jasper Fforde book and my favorite line was on page 295: "Thursday might battle the Daleks with Dr. Who"

I love supernatural themed films. it's vampires for me though, mostly. I was a vampire obsessed teenage girl about 15 or more years before it became a phenomena. I don't know what got me into vampires. I was a big reader, and very early on got into things like the little vampire books. and then on one occasion when I couldn't think what to read, my mum lent me Interview with the vampire, and I was even more hooked. I was only about eight at that time. I've also always been interested in the Paranormal, so films and stories with ghosts or other entities are always exciting. Werewolves make for good stories, but they're not so appealing. there's no allure there, and no real appeal in being one. it seems like really bad PMT to me. and plus you wouldn't be allowed on the furniture. and Zombies. not at all appealing. but again, Zombie films are really exciting. there is something very very frightening about the very idea of Zombies. I also think that anyone that says they don't have a Zombie apocolypse plan is probably lying. I know where I'd be heading for. Witches, well Witchcraft has been a big part of my life, all my life. it runs in the family. so for me, that's not fiction. even if films do exaggerate it somewhat.

Did you happen to see Zombieland? Zombies are not my thing, but the commercials drew me in. I laughed so hard when I saw it.

I am not into it much this time around. I liked the soap opera Dark Shadows, for a while. In today's scene, not sure I would like any of it, hubby would choose a wolf, he likes wolves. I say give it ten years and the trend will be gone again.

it's been around fairly consistantly since at least the victorian times. it comes in and out of the mainstream, but I don't think it will ever be gone.

Dracula - Frank Langella - Hot and Sexy!!!
My absolute favorite was and still is the vampire Dracula played by Frank Langella in the 1979 movie. He was really sexy in the seduction scenes. His voice and looks drove me wild. What do you think of this clip from the movie? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOZRR71ielg&NR=1 Years later I also liked David Boreanaz, in the TV series Angel. As a teenager I read every vampire book I could get my hands on starting with Bram Stoker's book Dracula, Ann Rice and all the other authors.

That's so cool! I have seen Frank Langella as an older man, but didn't know how good looking he was when he was younger. I liked Angel too. But when they got rid of Cordelia in that stupid storyline I quit watching.

I wouldn't be a fan in real life. If vampires and werewolves were real I'd be scared out of my mind.

I've wanted to be a witch all my life. Not really in the wicken sense, but in the wiggle my nose and I get what I want sort of sense. I could see being a vampire too.. but I'd probably be a vegetarian vampire, lol. Mostly I just want to live forever.. Hubby would choose werewolf.. just cuz he likes wolves.

You don't need to be witch to have eternal life. accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior and he will be faithful in giving you eternal life.

I'm not sure how long the craze will last but I sure have noticed that they are starting to make more and more movies about it. I'm not in to any supernatural beings really. My husband is though.

I will choose vampires too. This is because they look hot but they look white all over. . I like the serious side of vampires, and the way they think maturedly. I like the idea that they are reading minds, but they cannot read the minds of their one true love. Lol, i am talking about Edward here. But I am not a fan of Edward nor Robert Pattinson, I just absorbed the idea.

hi ambiepam my favorite is not so much supernatural as just odd ball as I am a Stephen King fan of all his books and they border on supernatural and on horror stores too but they are so intriguing and you just keep on reading sucked in by the story. The Cell was one of my favorites and anyone reading it will never look at their cell phones again in quite the same light. lol

i think you picked the most popular of all times. when i was growing up it was between vampires and werewolves. im still a little into werewolves when i think of Hugh Jackman in Wolverine. but mostly ive read all the vampire books and watched the movies. so i guess my all time pick would be vampires. except for Hugh that is....lol. yum.

I hope the craze does last, but unfortunately I know it won't. The popularity of various genres tend to run in cycles, don't you think? Just like in movies, television shows, etc. I've been reading the JR Ward vampire series, and have really enjoyed it. Also the Fae series by Karen Moning. I guess my favorite entity would be a fae vampire? LOL How about you, do you have a favorite?

Personally, I'm not in to today's crazes. I much rather liked the crazes of the past when angels were popular. I'll also take Mediums over vampires, zombies, etc. any day.
