All My Children - being cancelled....

YEp...come September AMC says goodbye. THey say it is cause more women are working now and can't watch during the day but they arent counting TIVO and VHS recording and SoapNet for watching at night. I don't think people have stopped... I think because of these recording for later viewing options...they just think people are not watching! http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_tv_daytime_dramas But AMC has taken a turn for the worst in later years... I stopped watching last fall simply cause they keep repeating storylines over and over. I mean every year Kendall has some near fatal accident and knocks on death's door, only to return to the living. ANd Erica...she gets married every other year to someone different and in the years she isn't marrying, she's divorcing. And then Adam leaves and JR replaces him...like that's a good move! And of coure Ryan fathers every child in town, but doestn' know it until later... THey just should have come up with new storylines and maybe those that did stop watching during the day... would have stayed watching. I know I would have. But, what will you watch instead? They say some cooking and weight loss shows...like anyone that is working is going to record those and those at home are going to tune in. Got enough of those prime time. Good grief...what's happened to day time tv? All we need is yet another yakking, bickering, arrogant talk show!!!

I have not watched All My Children in years. I suppose it has it's long time run. However, it seems that the TV stations are more geared towards Talk Shows, Court shows, and News. I did a recent survey about Soap Operas and I have had a feeling All My Children was getting the Axe. They asked a lot questions about several Soaps but All My Children seems to be the focus. I am sure the faithful fans will miss it.

You are right and the main reason I too stopped watching because the episodes always left me hanging and then it was so predictable.

it is literally ridiculous and awful that they are cancelling these soap operas. We do not need any more talk shows there is plenty. I am sick over it. Keep the soaps on I am not at all happy about this. I wonder if enough people would complain that they would reconsider or it is set in stone. Just really bad.

It is bad. And what are they being replaced with? Stupidier than stupid talk shows, court room comedy and...they say...more cooking shows followed by "how to loose weight" shows. I will miss them but at least GH and Y&R are still going and hopefully, will continue to keep me entertained in the afternoons!

When I found out All My Children and One Life to Live were both being canceled, I was sad. Not because I had an big attachment to them at the moment. They were never "much watch" soaps for me (although lately I would watch them a couple times a week). But I would tune in every once in a while I certainly enjoyed many storylines. But because this is such an old tradition, one that kind of makes you feel like you're home. It sounds weird, but when you turn on a soap opera you like, it's almost like catching up with an old friend. And to cancel TWO of them. General Hospital better watch out. Seriously, The Young and the Restless (never wacth it) to me is the only safe soap. It does so well overseas that CBS still makes a lot of money on it. So I hope that AMC and OLTL fans will give General Hospital or Days of Our Lives a chance. And I read about the shows that will replace the soap operas. I predict one gets canceled after it's first season, and that the other last three years tops. I was hearing about the comments stars that used to be on soaps had to say. Every single one was sad about it. Nathan Fillion especially. And I admire that he took that job seriously. Soaps aren't easy acting. And it annoys me that some big stars belittle them. James Franco (on GH these past few years) and Julianne Moore (reprised her role on ATWT in its last show last year) being the exception. I expect to see some of these now out of work actors on the existing soaps. I don't know that I see anyone getting Susan Lucci though. But she sure had a long run. Along with Erica Slezak who played Viki on OLTL 40 years.

Susan (can't stand her character!) and Erica are the only "original" ones on either soap. They were there when they started. Pretty cool in that. Yeah, others will be out of work and not to common these days to cast them in prime time..they are sterotyped now. Years ago, lot of actors started on soaps and then went to prime or movies, but not these days. It is sad to see the shows end. I like Y&R also. I think soap actors are better than most prime actors....but get less pay for 5 times the work. I mean, a 1/2 comedy or an hour drama...in the works for a full week and tons of salary, yet soaps...they film an episode every day! I don't think most prime/movie stars could handle the life of a soap actor.

I heard on PTI, a sports based show! The first person I thought of was you. I'm so sorry.I think the new stay at home people prefer the type of drama you get to see on Maury and Steve Wilkos. I stopped watching soaps in English and started watching Mexican soaps Why? The storylines. with the U.S. soaps they repeat and repeat the same storylines or they take a good storyline and it takes forever to solve it. With the Mexican soap, they don't repeat and they last about 6 months! They have a beginning , middle and end! But with that said , i thought there would Always be the soaps on ABC! The end of a era!

I saw. Stupid ABC... Move everybody out to LA, and then cancel the show. Typical show business BS.

I thought of that too... all it cost and all the good actors they lost to move to LA...for a year. How stupid was that!

I am an All My children fan. My mother and my grandmother were fans of the long running soap as well. I am sure there are many discouraged All My children fans like me that will miss this show. I don't what they will replace it with, but i don't think it will compare to the years of enjoyment spent with All My children.

Nothing can compare to day time soaps. Now we will be inodate with more talk shows, court room shows and cooking/weight shows (as the article says). Boring afternoons!

This is such disappointing news. I have grown up with All My Children. My mother watched it for as long as I can remember. I have taped and then DVRd AMC my whole adult life. When I was in college I wouldn't take classes that were scheduled at Noon! I guess I can do housework during the time I would watch AMC and snack. Nah, maybe I will just take a nap after work. Who kidnapped Erica?! I can't believe that they actually did something that surprised me.

Wow I wonder if my mother knows this. I will have to tell her. She has been watching general hospital and all my children since I was a little girl. It seems like the shows that have been on that long will just continue to go on forever its hard to imagine one ending. I used to watch Passions for a few years and I was pretty obsessed with it. They took it off regular tv and put it on direct tv I think it was but it didnt last on their either and the show was done for good :(

I was thinking about Passions just now. Lindsay Hartley played Theresa on Passions. I thought she was an amazing actress. And she played Arianna on Days for a short while before her character was killed. When I found out she got a job on AMC playing a character named Cara, I tuned in to AMC after not watching it for a long while. And now the poor girl is out of a job again! I only hope another soap opera snatches her up. The guy who played Luis on Passions is now playing Rafe on Days. And the recast of Ethan is now playing Brady on DAYS. So maybe this will turn out well for some of the actors who are getting fired because of the cancellations.

Those soap actors could move from soap to soap with no problem, but they won't be able to move to prime/movies probably hardly at all. Sad. But yea, it is sad they are ending. A TV historical phenom ...soaps have been around for 60 years...no other drama or sitcom can say that! Can't be to bad if they have been liked for that long!

Thats really cool that so many characters went off and played characters on other soap operas. I think Lindsay Hartley was such a great actress but passions had her repeating the same lines over and over again that it didnt let her true talent come to the surface. How amazing that she married one of the other actors on the show. To me things like that are so wonderful. She is so beautiful I was always envious of her and her figure.

I heard about this today and was in shock. I have been watching this show since I was in high school. I'm now 54 years old and can't believe its leaving. Even though I worked for 32 years I would still keep up with what was going on. Now that I'm able to watch the show its going off the air. I will definitely not watch any daytime TV on ABC. I will be boycotting ABC because of them doing this after so many years. I can't believe the time, trouble and money that they put into moving to California last year and then now to decide to cancel the show. I feel so bad for all the actors and actresses who will be out of a job. I know my daughter and my sister will also be boycotting ABC. I read alot blogs today who most said will be boycotting ABC too. ABC is in for a rude awakening especially on top of this that Oprah is leaving too! ABC will be in the bottom when it comes their ratings.

I just couldn't believe they canceled two soaps at once, One Life to Live being the other one. I hope that if people boycott ABC they make an exception for General Hospital. I hope soap fans band together and give the soap operas left a boost in ratings.

I was shocked to. And I honestly don't think "viewers" have dropped simply due to women in the workforce as they say it is. I mean, noon to 2 oclock are lunchtime hours nad many women go to the lunch room or home and catch one of the shows. But with VHS recording, DVD recording and even Online viewing and TIVO and SoapNet.com...I think they are watching, just not a that afternoon time. Plus, if they aren't watching.. I dont think it is because they can't....more that the storylines have been so stupid, redundant, repetitive and duplicate and the same old thing over and over and over that viewers get tired of it all and watch once a week and know what went on all week! I mean, how many times can one person knock on deaths door and come out smelling like a rose and the writers think people will continue to tune in for that same old storyline! I say, shame on the writers for depriving us of a wonderful TV historical entertainment!

I'm actually surprised that ANY soap opera is even still on the air. I find them almost as stupid as all these so called reality TV shows they have coming out just about every second. Don't get me wrong I used to be a fan of soap operas myself once upon a time, but after a while the same old boring story lines just get, well boring not to mention down right rediculious. So I'm not at all upset that AMC is going off the air. Now if they could only do something about these rediculious reality shows my world would almost be perfect once again :o)

I am upset as it is sad to see a historical TV phenomia ending so abruptly. Soaps have been aroudn since before television! Radio soaps like As the World Turns and Guiding Light started on the radio and just recently went off TV air. Soaps were the "afternoon"...now what do we have? Court shows, talk/bickering shows and other stupidity. I know what you mean about them getting stupid. They kind of did this to themselves. AMC was the worst...good grief if Erica got married one more time! Oh yeah, she just did marry Jackson for the what, third time? They just kept repeating the same storylines and didn't even change the characters in the storylines! And yeah,, ridiculous...no one ever paid for their crimes...no one ever went to jail that they didn't glamorize it the few weeks they were there! But at the same time, they were a bit of entertainment (for me at least) from the real world for a few hours a day. I will miss them. OLTL was my second favorite after General Hospital. It is going too.

And then they go and start 2 great storylines today - Clint has a heart attack after the high and self righteous Bo blames everything on him for his son's problems..(I like Clint!) and Tess berates Vicki so bad that Vicki turns into Niki at the very end...granted it could just be Viki PRETENDING to turn into Niki to help get Tess back to Jess, but hopefully it will be Niki and those two can crash heads till the cows come home and we can have some good laughs before it all ends!

Yea, but these are tv history...passed through the generations. Constantly changing. From Radio to TV...nothing else has made that journey! No other show has the longevity the soaps have. To end it is just to sad, not to mention stupid. There is so little on TV these days worth watching. Now the afternoons are will be nothing but junk too! IN this case...progress STINKS!!!
