Do you worry about matching accessories?

I saw this lady and she was matching from head to toe. Made me wonder how many people actually match EVERYTHING. Her nails were painted to match her shoes and shirt...her eyeshadow was the same color as her purse and skirt..I thought..wow..she really put a lot of thought in her day. I usually get a purse or two that matches everything..lol. I have certain shoes but they are inter-matchable too. I do care about my appearance, but I have never been one to go that far..I do appreciate the effort that lady must have given to her day but wow..I just wouldn't have the time. Guys can be like that too with their wallets or ties. Wonder what guys think of the ladies who are so well matched? I respect the effort..that's for sure. How about you? Do you go to great pains to match everything? What do you think it says about a person that does or doesn't? Does it say anything at all? Love to hear your thoughts!

I do match my clothes but I usually wear blue so it is easy. I do have royal blue nail polish and I have worn it with my royal blue shirt. But to match Everything , no. But then again I don't wear eye shadow. The shoes I Wear are black and my purse is Dark brown!

That reminds me of this blue sparkling bathing suit I had once...I used to wear a blue polish on my fingers and toes when I would wear it...I wore it alot throughout that summer though and alot of my clothes matched it too....I love blue. I don't wear eyeshadow either and I usually stick to a pale pink nailpolish or the french manicure look...I love that look. I learned how to do it myself so it wouldn't cost me a ton..lol. I saw some nails that were blue polished with white tips...it was pretty. Thanks for responding.

My daughter has a ton of different nail polishes! My b/f's mom was a huge Avon representative and when we went up last..she was cleaning out her stuff. My daughter was all about swooping in there and freeing her of her worries I used to have a lot of polishes too...I never mixed them but I would do solid nails and use another color for dots or stripes.. I was in my teens then though...I am a bit more traditional now but if I could find that one color...that blue I used to wear with that bathing suit...I would get it. I even had a bad dream over it that I went to work and this girl I knew had taken it and was wearing it in front of me

It's a good day for me when I leave the house without wrinkled clothes! Just kidding but I don't put too much effort on how I look. I mean, I do like to look neat, clean and sort of well put together but I don't go out of my way for it. I have tons of different colored flip flops and always get as close to whatever I'm wearing when picking the ones I'll wear that day. No, really! I'm a barefootin' kinda gal normally so when I HAVE to wear something on my feet but not for any formal occasion, I'll color-coordinate my flip flops with my clothes. Honest! I have about 12 different colors/shades of flip flops. I don't know what possessed me to get every color they make, though. Maybe it was one of those brief "Oh, COOL!" moments, plus they didn't cost much. These are just that plastic kind. I rarely wear lipstick or polish my nails so that's not normally an issue. If there is a very special occasion, my lipstick will match my nails but I won't try to have them match anything I'm wearing. Just so they don't clash, that's good enough for me. I never was one to spend a lot of time dressing. I like to look well-put-together but I'm usually way too busy and simply don't have the time. Now, if you want to talk (winter) hats, scarves and gloves, I ALWAYS coordinate them because it doesn't take any more time to grab the matching ones. When I knit/crochet a new scarf, I always make a matching hat and I've just learned how to make gloves so I have a few totally coordinating sets. Also, which set I choose depends on which coat I'm wearing. Basically, I've always wanted my personality to be the most impressive part about me, not my clothes or what I drive.

You know, your photo here reminds me of one I just saw from a link on MSN's homepage. Well, this someone is an actress, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen's sister, Elizabeth. Below is a photo of all of them. Eliabeth (on the right) looks a lot like you, at least this pic of her and your avatar pic.

I have a ton of flip flops too! I love them in the summer! I usually try to keep most of my stuff neutral colors...my nail polish either pale pinks or that french manicure look. I learned how to do it myself so it doesn't cost me a ton. I do my toes too...they match my fingers..lol. If I wear jewelry, I keep it pretty simple. I do dress up a bit more when I am going somewhere special but to be honest, I am a slave to my work uniform. In the winter, I am boot crazy! I love boots. I have a couple of jackets and I do wear a pair of boots that match the jacket. I want to be well presented but I think that super expensive loud stuff can take away from the person. Thanks for the response and the pic comparison...I'll have the big head all day...lol.

I chuckled when I read this thinking of myself. NOTHING matches with me. I have a couple of skirts that I can't wear since I have no tops that go with them. I have NO concerns with appearance.....to be precise or perfect with it. I remember there was a teacher at my kids' school, when they were growing up. She matched everything and always looked perfect.....not a hair out of place, and the same hairdo for as long as the kids and I were in the school!! She never married and had a sister who came to the school for various events, and they looked so much alike! I have a friend who wears all kinds of different jewelry, and it ALWAYS matches what she is wearing. I also taught with a woman who had watches to go with whatever she wore. She had some pretty cool watches!!I have to agree with you..............I appreciate the effort, but it sure isn't for me!!

I would think it would take a lot of effort. I think that teachers are a good example..there are teachers here in my district that look like the ones you described. I remember some from my own school days...usually in elementary school. It would be hard for me to put that much effort in everyday...I am usually happy with something clean and comfy when I get off work. I might dress up a little this weekend though..I get a three day weekend!

Dear friend, I would like to be comfortable with what I wear, but at some situations especially in case of any official VIP inspection or meetings I would be careful in my dressing, as they may get a impression from our first appearance. Other wise I would just dress casuals that I feel comfortable. I just want to dress be normal in a society. May just obeying and respecting those normal social rules and values, no vulgarity in my dresses.

Me too Shamrack. I do put more effort into my appearance on certain occasions, but I am required to wear a uniform at work everyday..so that kinds takes away from having to worry about presentation. Of course I stay well kept...but to match my nail polish or eyeshadow is a little more than what I have time to be concerned with..I don't even wear eyeshadow..lol...Thanks for responding.

Thank you I always notice clean and nice too. I like to match too and actually buy things that are neutral so that I don't have to worry about it so much. Now when I am going somewhere nice, I do put a bit of extra effort in it, but not like the lady I saw. Are you coloring any eggs your way? I hope you have a great Easter too

Hi Jen, This is not only in your place, you can say everywhere. For those lady everything has to match with each other. The color of nail polish, lip stick, shoes, eye shadow and all. Ok, women/girls of a well to do families can afford this but what about those women who can not have all those accessories? I am lucky that my wife is a different metal. She doe not spend much time before getting ready for her college or shopping. Puts facial things hardly. But she knows what goes with what. Come on, why to listen to them, live life king size.

Hi krajibg! I think I am more like your wife. There are times and occasions that I go a little further with my appearance but I could not imagine putting that much time into it everyday. Wow. It is a good point that you make about the women that can't afford the accessories too...do you think it is a social status statement for some?

I am like you--I only have one purse and and a few pairs of interchangeable shoes. There are two reasons for doing this: 1) lack of money to buy more than one or two items and 2) I prefer to stand out with unique pieces that often don't match anything. Case in point: I bought a Coach clutch a few years back. It doesn't go with anything, but it goes with anything. I am known for being a bit 'weird' and artsy as well as shy, so this is my way of hiding behind it. Your eye stops at the vivid colors so people don't notice if my hair hasn't been trimmed and styled to perfection. My friend MT matches and coordinates EVERYTHING, even her eyeshadow! Sometimes the colors aren't always right for her (or the styles) but she told me it was a 'must' for her.

Nice stradegy! Sounds like you have your own style. I think that makeup should match your complexion..you know? I would look terrible with blue eyeshadow but I love blue shirts. Noway I'm wearing loud eyeshadow..It might be because I don't wear it anyway though..lol...Thanks for responding.

hi Jeninn oh my I had a boss who was like that and let me tell you she was something else to work for. Everything on her matched and she looked fine but under that hard shell was a hard to please crabby lady,B ut I found out she was bi polar and refused to take her medications at times. when she took them she was an angel to work witrh and we all got along great. but on the days she did not take them she was not matching at all in anything and was a bear,.she said we were the worst staff she had every had and we just did not get anything right. It was like night and day with her, when she was dressed and everything matched she had taken her meds and was sweet natured and we were the bes staff she had ever had.but on the days she refused to take her medications she was dressed very sloppily and nothing matched or even looked good. I had never known anyone with bi polar disease before so I learned a lot while working with her. I do not go quite that far in matching things as I do not have that kind of time nor money

I think, and mind you this is just my initial opinion off the top of my head, but I think that people who go that far are a bit anal. What normal person really has the time or money to match everything? I can see it for a special occasion perhaps but not every day. And someone who does all this work would tend to tell me they REALLY want to make a good impression. Even to the extent of a self esteem issue. Maybe.

I am one of those people who does care about the way I look, and I like to wear clothing that matches, but I do not go out of the way to make sure that every aspect of my outfit and accessorieds match. As a matter of fact, my normal, everyday clothing consists of blue jeans, a decent t-shirt, socks, tennis shoes, my hair pulled back into a ponytail, and I carry the same old purse all of the time. I do not have the time, energy, money, or desire to have every aspect of my outfit to match each day. I do know some people who take the time and effort to make sure that they completely match, and I will say that they really do look nice, but, it is not something that suits my personality.

It is bad taste to match everything from head to toe. l Accessories should accentuate your outfit and not make it look boring and predictable. For instance, if you are wearing a black dress, it would be tasteless to wear black shoes, black bag, and black accessories. You can use bright colors to break the monotony of your dark outfit. You can accentuate black with yellow, red, green or whatever color to give life to your dark dress. Another instance is, when you wear a yellow dress and your shoes, bag, accessories are all in yellow, then you could look like a banana.

I have gold jewelry for the most part too. I don't have a huge selection because the jewelry I have all have special meaning to me. They were passed down or given to me as gifts. I am very frugal when it comes to me, but I spend a ton of money on my girls. I do wear it when I am going somewhere nice and will take special pains to look nicer than ususal, but I don't go all out like the lady I saw.

I used to be like that and it is a lot of work and time. Changing the contents of one purse to the other became aggervating. Sometimes trying on all my jewelry to find the best match would take forever, and I just had enough. I have a friend now that is like that and it takes her about 2-3 hours to get ready and now I see how ridiculous it was for me to be like that to. It was cool when I was a teenager and had nothing better to do, but now there are more important things to me than if I change up my purse, or put on make up, or make my toe nails match my outfit. Don't get me wrong, guys say they don't like that kind of stuff... it is a lie because heads followed me and still till this day if I get the notion to get dolled up it is like that. I have changed and I don't want to be liked anymore for all those superficial reasons, I am still beautiful with or with out all of it, and I still take care of myself... just not to that extreme. Now I feel like I am naturally beautiful and I have more time to do more important stuff!

Well, there are days that I barely manage to get my clothes on and get my hair done so I really do not have time to worry about the accessories. I would think that someone that had spent that much time on herself had plenty of free time. I appreciate that she feels that she needs to look good to be out, but some of us just do not have that kind of time for fashion.

I think that the lady you saw was very well co-ordinated. It is funny that she painted her finger nails that same color as her clothing. I choose to wear clothes that look fine together. One would be a particular color and the other would be a different colors. I usually wear black shoes and am fond of wearing a black skirt or a black pair of trousers. I like to wear a white, blue or green top. I don't wear any nail varnish or make up. I like to look clean and tidy but natural rather than all made up. I think every lady has a different dress sense. Not many ladies bother to match everything in their outfit and such a lady looks very exact. A lady that has a few matching accessories looks like she has bothered. A lady that hasn't done that looks more natural and ordinary like myself.

Not much you can do with blue jeans and T-shirts. I use rubber boots in the fields and tennies for going to town. For dress up I wear slacks, a buttoned shirt and coat or vest with sling backed flats. To really get dressed up I'll add a bit of bling to flash it up. I spent years dressing for a fashion statement and am so glad not to have to do that anymore.

hello jen, I know personally someone who always do same thing with your topic. My mom in law is already in her late 70's,but still very much fashionable. She always wears matching dress, shoes and accessories. She has a closet loaded with bags,a shoe racks with dozens of shoes and sandals. A bucket full of hair accessories from cheapest one to the most expensive hair dress that costs one day budget for a regular family. She also has pile of wrist watches to match her dress and bags. Well,it's because she can afford to have all those luxuries and she's now enjoying her life...that's her philosophy.

I'm definitely the opposite of that woman. Like you, I have a purse and shoes that match most of my clothes. I have a lot of black just so I can match with other things. I am terrible at matching and my friends have even told me I have no fashion sense. Fortunately I go to a school where no one really dresses up. Still, I would find it weird that a person matches everything, isn't that a bit boring?
