I was watching the late news and it said that our state Missouri and other states close to us has seen 45 tornadoes since early this morning. Do you find that odd? I do this is not normal. Do you live in a state close to Missouri? If you do was you hit by these tornadoes today? Hope all is safe but they said there was at least 10 people killed by these tornadoes today.

The weather has been crazy lately. I don't live i Missouri or any of the states that have been hit so hard, but I have family and friends in some of the areas. I don't remember a year ever that's been so hard on them.

What seems strange to me, in a very backward way, is the fact that Kansas is having very few tornadoes. It was not too long ago that we were having towns completely leveled here in Kansas.

Hi Peavey. My prayers are with you my friend. I pray that no one you know is or was hurt by these tornadoes. It is strange the weather man said this is the worst it has been since the early 1800's.

Thanks free_man. So far, so good. GardenGerty, maybe the jet stream or whatever has changed to bring the storms a little farther south and a little farther east? Just guessing. :)

45 tornadoes?? That's a really huge number. Don't know what causes it or where these tornadoes come from mainly. I've never seen a tornado for life and there's none in Singapore ...but I really wish that everybody out there will be safe.

Hello again! I find tornadoes really scary but I want to know one thing if I may? Why are a lot of the houses damaged by these things made out of wood? Is this the case or am I being the usual, naive Brit?

Hi Janey. Wood can't withstand the tornadoes. It is best to be in a building that is underground. Seen some brick homes destroyed too not just wood. No your not being Naive my friend.

Hi Janey. Yes there are supposed to be tornado proof buildings but we don't have one or any near us. We would have to go to town to the local library and it is about the size of a two car garage for over a thousand people in the town.....LOL no I will take my chances out here. God will decide if I live or die and that is fine with me. But thank God we haven't had to deal with any bad storms near our home. Just the hail the size of golf balls.

I take it there is no such thing as a "tornado-proof building?" I was amazed when I saw those tall skyscrapers rocking in Tokyo during Japan's devastating earthquake in March. I know they were designed to rock from side to side like that but it was sooo scary! At least most people survived in Tokyo though, not like in the North East of the country.

Nature is lashing back at us for thousands years of being taken for granted. Some countries facing floods all year round, some have problems with earthquake, some got tornadoes etc. Even if we start to do good with nature now I don;t think it will get back to its former condition. Still, we can only hope for the best. Hope those states are able to defend themselves from the tornadoes.

Then that will be the end of the world and end of civilization. Or will it be a new world era and civilization.

Yeah, I've been watching the news lately, keeping up with all of this. It's crazy. Just last night in Georgia, we had another nasty thunderstorm, did more damage than last time. I was scared the oak tree would fall on our house. Alabama had it pretty bad too. I was glad that my cousin was safe. We were all worried.

Hi Mooselovesyou and welcome to my lot. Did you get much damage? I have been praying for all that was near these storms. Is the tree in bad shape near your house? If so I would be getting it taken out asap. I am happy that your cousin was safe too my friend! I pray that the storms are out of your area. Don't worry God takes care of HIS children!

Tornadoes occur when warm humid air masses clashes with cold air masses. These air masses follow the jet stream. At this time of the year the air masses are moving northward. It is not uncommon for tornadoes and thunder storms to break out and follow the jet stream north. These storms also come in cycles and over the years there have been major outbreaks like this. April 3-4 1974 there was a Super Outbreak of Tornadoes that hit Ohio. During the two day out break 34 people were killed and thousands were left homeless. The City of Xenia, Ohio was almost totally destroyed. During the 2 day Super Outbreak there were 148 confirmed Tornadoes covering 13 states and the Canadian Province of Ontario. These storms damaged over 900 sq miles and covered over 2600 miles. Some places get hit harder than others and some years there are more storms than other years. My thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost loved ones and homes in these storms.

Our weather station was just discussing this. We have been unusually quiet in Kansas, both last year and this year. Only six so far. It is not normal. There have been 656 tornadoes confirmed in April. There is usually only about 1000 from April through June. Last year there was over 1500.

Hi GG. This is strange weather this year. I can't believe there have been over 600 toornadoes this year. And 45 of them was today. Hit Alabama pretty bad. Don't know of much damage here but seen the video of Alabama and it was bad. Over 1500 last year. Sounds weird to me don't it to you?
