myLot Does Not Mind!

I am a free lancer and write for magazines occasionally. When I write there I do take the trouble to see that my language is flowery as far as possible with no spelling mistakes, proper construction of sentences and all that goes that would be called superb writing but here in myLot I am always in a hurry and even if I see some mistakes I over look them because MYLOT DOES NOT MIND! What is your opinion?

Although myLot does not mind and as GG says it is because many are not able and because they understand that for many English is a second language. For which I too respect. For me it is very important to be cautious simply because the user name I use here is my pen name and it is associated with many online articles. I write for a private publisher for brand new websites and it is important to me for that reason and for self satisfaction.

Not that I am that careless which you guys must have seen. But I surely could do a better job of it if I spent more time and since MYLOT DOES NOT MIND I get tempted to take advantage of that and rush through my responses/comments/topics.

MyLot might not mind but we will see better rewards if we take care, as the link above explains.

I am a member. I do mind. And I reprimand myself when I commit the errors... What we have written will forever be there. And what we write reflect the kind of persons we are. I don't want to be remembered as someone with many mistakes. And of course... in all the arts in which the wise excel, nature's chief masterpiece is writing well.

Vow eileenleyva this response is sure a master piece. Having said that if a well written post carried more weight one would see less of spelling and grammatical errors here even by those who are experts in the language. I have seen it happening. I do free lancing but when it comes to posting here I do not take as much trouble as I do with my articles.

I write very simple English all-knowing but I hate to see mistakes even in a handwritten letter and would read it before posting. Of course the same thing goes for a mail too. Earlier, with my lamentable typing I used to spend so much of time writing “Error corrected” and feel miserable about the stupid mistakes. Once a friend here told me “What is a typo or two between friends Kala?”.Ever since that I have become relatively carefree and do not bother too much about typos. I still do not like to write clumsy sentences but I just forgive myself for typos .I know my friends won’t mind. I too do not mind here if others make mistakes in sentence constructions or make typing errors.

But I also admit I have real double standards. I cannot tolerate it if my students write badly or even at home if there is some disorganized writing and clumsy sentence constructions. But, here in 'my lot family' it is a different benchmark because there are many people who do not write perfect English. We should choose between overlooking our friends' mistakes, communicating less and flawless writing. Here my priorities are different.

Hurrah!! myLot does not mindWe within the family have been very particular about speaking and writing correctly and having worked for a multi national where no one was forgiven for typos or grammatical errors I was groomed to be able to speak and write well but here I feel tempted to take advantage of the situation and save time. Yes. Kala. The main reason here is to save time.

I don't normally make any spelling or grammtical errors here but was only talking about making it a bit more flowery.

Hi allknowing, Mylot does not mind mistakes, because it is an international forum where participants are from non native of English too. But I am not taking this as an advantage, errors happen with me but not intentionally. I never thought mylot does not care my mistake and I can write mistakes here. All people from the world are reading us so we can’t be careless…

Errors happen unintentionally because our mind is already set on the thought that myLot does not mind. If there was a penalty for spelling and grammar mistakes I am sure Sreekala we would think twice before letting these errors go by!

Sree! We are all friends here and won't laugh at mistakes .I am proficient in English but if you make mistakes I would still look only at the meaning you are trying to convey and not at your mistakes.

I am not proficient in English but I care as much because I don’t like people read my post and laugh on me. Surely if they cut money on grammar mistakes then I may get reduction on earning, the reason, I hate grammar when I studied.

hi allknowing I wonderthough if mylot does really mind as I find on the days I am as super careful as I would be in writinng fiction I make a bit more than on days where I have not been as careful and missed some upsetting to me typos. I mean perhaps their software is primed to cath our typos and if we have more than one might pay us a little less? Any way I really do try to edit before posting but I often miss a few and I hate that.I would love to free lance as I am an unpublishe writer and love to write. I really think the less typos we have the better we get paid but thats just me really.

Allknowing will this do? It says: "myLot does not reward low-quality contributions" http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq6.aspx#16

Here quality I am sure is referred to the substance and not a post that has no spelling mistakes or grammatical errors. If that was the case they would not have accepted those who are not good in the English language. On the contrary they want us to tolerate them, which means that myLot tolerates them too.

We all do it Hatley but I am careful with grammar as if I did not do that my brother would turn in his grave as he used to din into my system about how important grammar is. That part of being paid less if there are typos is news to me. Where did you find this. Please show me the link. In that case I will be more careful in the future

i think it doesn't mind because a lot of users here doesn't really know much about the English grammar. so maybe it just considers them for now.

I can understand about those who have difficulty with the language but there are many here who rush with their activity without checking, knowing myLot does not mind.

MyLot does not mind because many people who are members are not able, yet, to produce that perfect quality post. Of course if you write for a magazine you would want to write an excellent article and that is what the magazine or other freelance contractor would expect from you. I am more particular here on Mylot than I am on other venues where I have a presence.

I am guilty in that I can produce quality posts but that would mean spending more time not that any one would appreicate that and say 'oh allknowing what a splendid piece of work'

MyLot does not mind - but I mind! We are not rewarded for low quality posts (as you can see inthelink I provided earlier) so why bother to post them in the first place? MyLot is fun but it is even more fun if the rewards are higher and it is up to us to see that they are - so of course they don't mind if we don't because it costs them less!

Mine are certainly quality posts but with more effort I could refine them. And I am sure this applies to many here incuding you may be? Are you saying that spelling mistakes and grammatical errors are taken into account while calculating earnings? WHICH MEANS MYLOT MINDS?

It is true. when u write professional scripts u always are alert about the mistakes and language used but when it comes to mylot or other social networking, we tend to become casual and commit either mistakes or use slangs. What say?

MyLot asks us to use English and if you write 'u' instead of 'you' your earnings will suffer because that is not English.

Whenever I write, I am aware that I am exposing a part of my personality. So I write as clear and as grammatically appropriate as I possibly can, no matter the venue. It is my reputation at stake so I am extra careful about my writing style. I do not care whether myLot mind it or not. I will not sacrifice quality for quantity.

You are doing your best here apparently. But though I don't make mistakes I could do a better job of it. Writing is an art and therefore there is no limit there.

Think that a magazine and MyLot are very different. In a magazine, everything must be formal, well spoken and nicely worded, it's the rules of that business. But MyLot on the other hand is a forum, with some elements of social network, and both of those kind of sites are characterized by informal writing. While we can take all the time to produce very clean posts, it's not really necessary, as long as it's understandable by others and clearly explains what it means. Think also that many MyLoters are not native english speakers, but english is a secondary (or even third) language that we don't master but only know to some degree. In a magazine, that's unacceptable and you must require to have a great knowledge of the language at hands.

I have gone through some posts by those who have good knowledge of the language and there are mistakes that could have been avoided. This happens only because myLot does not mind it.

It's not formal site that need proper or perfect tenses so surely mylot doesn't mind of that

But it is important that one is understood or else no one would want to respond or comment on what is written!

I really take the opportunity of that fact in this site because my spontaneous thinking doesn't fit my english writing skills as well, But at least here, I can improve and further practice until at least I can produce a good quality writing. And although my skill is not that great, I still earn a few cents for it. Not bad at all...

That is the beauty of this site. myLot tolerates bad English and while those who are not able to write are making efforts those who have writing skills could do a better job of it.
