She's Not Going To Have The Surgery Afterall

Thank God! She's talked to several people as well as a doctor that she knows and likes VERY well and he thinks it would be too much on her frail body. He said that it's a very long surgery and involves a lot of details which, in his mind, is too much for mom to handle. Mom says she's ok with the way things are and doesn't want to have the surgery except to have her stints removed and replaced and that's it. She told me that they can go in her bladder and retrieve the fallen stint when they go to replace them. They'll put her in a twilight sleep and not in the deep sleep like anestesia does and do what they need to do. She says her bladder being where it is, doesn't bother her unless she's standing too long on her feet and then sits down, that's when she feels a pinch like feeling and readjusts herself to be more comfortable. Otherwise, it doesn't bother her. But as you already know, she can't stand for very long anymore so her bladder doesn't fall any further like it used to do. So we're all very happy that this is the way it's going to go!

Getting enough informed opinions is crucial to good quality of life. If this is what she wants, then I am sure it is for the very best. I guess you guys are feeling relief.

I read a book called The Treatment Trap that says that if you have insurance to cover it doctors will do lots of procedures just to get the insurance payment.

Isn't that the truth!! I do believe that whole heartingly! We're all nothing but a dollar sign or a social security number. We mean nothing to doctors or nurses except a paycheck. It's so sad and is the reason behind the saying, money is the root of all evil.

Good morning Cat, was so glad to see u on here. Had been wondering about y'all. U sound relived & i'm glad u are. Bless her your mom's heart she has way too much going againist her. I find it very sad that us oldies but goodies have to go through so much as we get older. I really don't think it's fair that people have to go through so much. I met a friend of mine for lunch yesterday & we were talking about this very thing. Looks like people ought to get a break when they get older but u don't. My friend & i went through alot raising our children by ourselves & i told her i thought we both should have gotten a break as we have aged instead of us both being in bad health & i think the same goes for your mom. Hope u have a good weekend. love & hugs.

Hi Jo.... please forgive me for taking so long to respond back to you! Sometimes I wonder if I'm coming or going anymore. Seriously. I've had to make a list of all the things that's going on with myself and my parents so I could keep up. Whew! Ok, here's the update and boy what an update.... mom has tried to find another doctor to take her case but so far nobody wants to take on a case that another doctor has started. Her original doctor moved to Tenn and the new one who took this doctors place, mom isn't happy with him at all because he acted a bit arrogant and made mom feel like she wasn't even in the room because he talked mostly with the nurses and not her so she's tried to find another but as I said, nobody wants to take a case where another doctor had started which makes no sense at all because she has to have the stints so there's going to always be a doctor who did it....? Makes no sense at all. However, another nurse from the same office told mom about another doctor that worked there so mom is going to give him a chance by going in and talking to him and see how he is and take it from there. Apparently it's really important for her to get these two stints out so it has to happen really soon. I say the sooner the better so we can get that off of our minds so we can all deal with other matters that's going on which is plenty enough. I'll have to post another discussion to explain it all and I will soon. Love and hugs to you dear Jo!

I'm soo sorry y'all are having such a time. Seems it's just one thing after another. gOOD DOCTORS ARE HARD TO FIND. lOOKS LIKE THE ONE THAT MOVED TO TN. WOULD HAVE GOTTEN YOUR MOM FIXED UP W/ANOTHER DR. BEFORE HE MOVED. I think that was negilent on his part. People are really something anymore. I wish her the very best & that u find a good solution to your mom's problems soon. Hapyy weekend to u. love ya!

Thats wonderful that she doesn't have to have the surgery. I know how scared and worried you were about it. Doctors don't want to loose patients, they don't want to do surgery on you unless they feel you will survive and your quality of life will be improved. Good luck to your mom for the procedures that she has to have done. Thats scary enough.

I am glad for her and for you too. sometimes things are better left untouched. It may not seem like the best way for the long term but it is the best way for the moment.

Hi Stephcjh! You are right about that. Some things are best left the way they are. We honestly think this doctor is just trying to make a name for himself and mom is just a pawn for him to do so. Well, it's not his mother so why should he be overly concerned? I'm SO glad she decided not to go through with it that I feel much lighter now that it's to the point that I almost feel like I can fly! lol

I only have confidence because I am not involved, if it was my loved one, I would have reacted like you did if not worse..But I am so happy it is turning out okay for your mom...:)
