Da Ping!

We noticed that Ping was laying about a lot - well, cats do that, but this was even more than normal. And his left eye was goopy and he wasn't opening it. So, we stuffed him in "The Hobo Memorial Cat Carrier" and took him to the vet. Dr. D said he didn't see any injury to the eye, heck, he had it WIDE open at the vet! Dr. D also looked in his mouth and his gums were a little red, tho his breath didn't smell particularly bad. We told them what we had been doing, treating his eye with some medicine we had gotten before for eyes. He told us to continue with that med and gave us some Clavamox for the rest of him. We worry since his brother, Pong, had that stomatitus and had to have his teeth pulled. But Dr. D didn't seem concerned about that - at least not yet. So, I guess I need to finish up this little tale and find another tail... so we can treat him. You ever have a cat with eye problems? How about yourself? I did, and that's a whole OTHER story!

Hey Elic! I sure hope Ping feels better soon! I never had a cat with eye problems, but I sure had two with teeth problems and they sure had some serious bad breath! I was afraid that one of them was going to need dentures for sure! They both lost alot of teeth and poor Cougar lost all but one fang! Poor sweet baby! He still weighed 24 pounds and ended up having a heart condition and dying of Pancreatic/Liver Cancer. Broke my heart to lose him and his brother!

I have found myself wondering if the mouth problems in my cats are contagious. Tiger drooled a lot, now Creamery does. Their teeth get really bad. On the other hand, Princess does not eat out of either of their bowls or associate with them. She has no fleas, no mouth trouble and she is like black velvet.

We sure have been having mouth problems, with 3 with stomatitus and Tuti with a cancer in her mouth. I hope we don't have more troubles with cats and teeth for a long time!

Hi GG! My cat Star is like black velvet too! He has the biggest green eyes that are always open wide no matter what time of day it is! And he is the most lovingest cat I've ever had. He always has to be "touching me" in some way. When I am in the bed he puts his arms around me like he is a human! Damn, my stupid azz bf hugs a pillow! I'd much rather have "my baby Star" anyday!

Awww, poor Ping, I hope he's ok now after treatment. A previous cat of mine (Thebes) had something wrong with her eye. The pupil wouldn't dilate so we took her to the vet and he prescribed some drops. Obviously, the vet placing drops in the eye was a breeze. Not so when it was my turn to do it at Mum's. Because Thebes understood EVERY word I said I just told her that the drops would make her eye better. Do you know what she did? Tilted her head right back on my lap so I had a direct hit in her eye with the drops lol. Her eye soon got back to normal after a few applications. Cats..all of them sooo adorable and different!

I don't know how much they understand, but Ping has never been as patient as Pong. It was funny when they first arrived. Their sister stayed in the carrier and Ping and Pong both ventured out, Ping, even tho he was smaller, was in front. When Pong discovered the food bowl, he stopped and ate, but Ping would go explore, come back and check in with his brother and go explore. We finally had to pull May, their sister out of the carrier, she was determined to stay there! They still cuddle together, Ping and Pong. The roomie wanted to keep Ping and we couldn't keep Ping without his "security blanket" Pong.

Aww, how cute. Mum's cats are a mother and daughter combination from the local shelter and Mum wanted two cats anyway, so these were ideal. Seeing them together is oh, so cute, especially when they sleep or play. Unfortunately, though, Ellie (the Mum) keeps barging Soxx out of the way at meal times so Mum has to feed Soxx seperately. It all stems from when they were trapped in a shed and any food that was fed them from a kindly neighbour (who rang up to get them rescued), I reckon Ellie was first to the food. Don't get me wrong, Soxx is far from being thin but Ellie is twice the size!!

It seems never ending. I have not had a cat that had to have his eye treated. I have two that keep having teeth pulled. My vet will not pull them all at once. Actually Tiger seems to have stopped having to get teeth pulled but he sure drools. Creamery is my battle cat, and he gets really rough looking, but has not had an eye hurt. Maybe Ping has pollen allergies.

Creamery on a wool blanket. - We had a cool evening and Creamery had to have a wool blanket under the computer. He is a hugger.I need to get a pic of him with Bob.
I posted this somewhere, may have been on Gather. He likes to stand on the lap and put a paw on each shoulder and try for a kitty kiss.

well, Dr. D said that if it were allergies it should affect both eyes. Yeah, I remember when you started with Creamery, sounds like what I went through with poor old Hobo. Have you posted any pix of Creamery? maybe you can bring some pix when I come around the middle of May.

I lost one of the kittens. They both had gummed up eyes that I've been cleaning out every few hours. Wanted to ask you about the stomatitis. One vet wanted Tiger in every 3 - 4 weeks for steroid shots, the other said to draw it out as long as I can between shots, as they can cause problems. How were you having it treated?

Sounds like Ping will be ok, luckily. My diabetic cat Simba now has cataracts, and eventually will go blind. There is no treatment except cataract surgery (!). If Simba were younger, or in better health, I would seriously consider it. However, he is 15+, has diabetes, IBD, pancreatitis, arthritis, and now a heart murmur and high blood pressure. I think the surgery might very well do him in, and so I am opting not to go through with it (never mind the cost, over $5 grand). He is so happy at the moment, can still see ok, probably has so little time left, and he HATES going to the vet, that I just think putting him through risky and experimental surgery isn't worth it.

cats get around pretty well in familiar places without sight, just so you know, once he is totally blind, DON'T MOVE THE FURNITURE!!!! (advice from the blind roommate!) I think he'll do just fine, he might need some help with getting on and off stuff, but other than that...

Thanks. His food bowls, water bowls, and litter boxes have been in the same place for years, and they're not moving, either! The doctor thinks he's already blind, but I don't, because he still watches the birds through the windows, and moves his head when they fly or hop away, so he must still be seeing something. And he also swats at toys from time to time. But, if his many illnesses don't do him in first, eventually he will go blind, I guess.

Hi Elic Bxn Glad to hear that there is nothing seriously wrong with Ping, and that the med should help to clear up the eye problem. My cat hasn't had eyes problems ,but until our doctor told us to change the food we were giving him,he used to have problems with the wet cat food we were giving him, crystalizing in his his body,he would get so ill,we used to rush him to the vets, who had to put him on liquid antibiotics, as he would go into a right tizz if anyone tried to give him tablets, but glad to say he is in good health and back to his old self now.. Have a great day. jojo732

I'm glad he's alright now. What food are you feeding now? I used to feed Cat Chow and that gave The Doctor problems. I now feed Purina One and haven't had any problems like that in a while.

I had a tic in a little muscle along the top of my eye socket, alongside my eyebrow. It was playing up off and on all day yesterday. It wasn't didturbing me but it was almost annoying and it was not something I could make go away. None of my cats have had eye problems but my last cat, a Persian called Cassandra, or Cass, had to have her teeth cleaned.

Those tics can be most annoying... Glad you've avoided the eye problems, the cats HATE to have their eyes treated!

yea,one of my previous had chronic conjunctivitis.it seemed like no matter what the doctor put him on,he never seemed to get rid of it.he later was diagnosed with FeLV tho,and they think the immunity factor was why he couldn't seem to shake it.

oh dear, we worry that he might've gotten FIV from TImus because we didn't know Timus had FIV (didn't test positive until years after we got him because when we tested him when we first got him, he tested negative.) We didn't do the test, Timus is 9, like Taj and Rio and Ping, Pong, Gizmo and Solo are (or are going to be) 7.

Our cat, Sleepy, has one eye that waters all the time. I don't know how long he has had th is condition,. but it has been over a year, He sees the vet each January, and he has seen the vet at least twice since the condition. The vet said it wasn't anything to worry about, and it has not gotten any worse since I first noticed it.

Oliver - Hard to see the eye
we have several cats who caught a cold as kittens and now have a drippy eye (3 cats, 3 eyes.) We could treat them daily and clear them up, but we'd have to do it the rest of their lives. Or we can just tolerate the drippy eyes. Oliver is the oldest with it.

I know a barn cat who ever so often gets goopy eyes. We just leave Aspen's eyes alone and it goes away. Unfortunely is comes back a few times a year! Aspen just goes with it! He used to be a house cat at one time. I also found out he was bought from a pet store! Aspen is your everyday, run of the mill domestic short hair! There is no reason to buy a cat at a pet store! For goodness sack there are kittens being adviced in the paper every day for sale! People are crazy!

What cute names for the cats! We went to visit my mother in law in Kentucky and the neighbors had a new litter of kittens. My son ran to play with them and every one of them had bad conjuncvitis. it was so sad. Since we did not live there, there was not really anything we could do for the poor things but I had to make my son leave them alone so he would not get an eye infection too.

Alot of my friends have had cats that have been involved in a cat fight or two and they were taken to the vets and it was the scatch that was on the eyes, that had got infected.A few eye drops and all the cats were all well again, but a few years ago a friends cat had its eye removed and that was due to the eye getting a serious infection, that was not clearing up.

Well, the vet said he didn't see any scratches, so he might've just gotten something in it. He seems to be doing better, his eye opens now, without going to the vet!
