Do I have to use the birthdate on my ID card?

China
April 29, 2011 10:53pm CST
Here in China many persons my age or older have already adopted their younger birth dates instead of their true birth dates when they were young so that they could study or look for jobs easily. So have I.And when I applied the ID card,I continued to use it. That is to say,I haven't used my birth date on the ID card when I registered myLot.Will it affect my confirming the Paypal account?I haven't had one so far. Hope you can share your experience. Thanks in advance.

I really don't know what you mean by your 'younger birth dates'. Here in the US I think a person could get into alot of trouble. We go by our birth certificates and that doesn't have any younger age on it. It has the time of day and the date of our births. I think you need to be sure to stay with one date and not change them around or you could get into some trouble.

I know that in China, things are different from here in the US. Since there are so many people, many of which were born in the countryside, it is possible that some of them don't have official birth documents. This could cause the situation he describes, but I'm not really sure. I was also told by many of my students (when I was teaching in China) that they use nominal age instead of the way we do it. The way it was explained to me was that they are 1 year old when they are born and turned 2 on Chinese New Year, even if they were only 1 day old at the time. I don't know if I understood that correctly, but that is the way I understood what they told me.

So you never really know for sure how old a person is.

Hello, you two!In China we usually remember our birth dates on Chinese Lunar Calendar, that way it can be on the same day every year.We always celebrate our lunar birthdays. I thought I didn't have to use the ID card birth date to register the myLot.But in fact the two dates are quite close,I'm truely quite old.If there's no trouble,I don't want to bother me to change it again.

I can't answer your question, but it reminded of a similar problem that people here in the U.S. For the reasons you mentioned, t hey have presented th emselves as y ounger than they actually were. However, when they reached the age to start receiving Social Security, they had a hard time proving they were old enough because of all those years of falsifying their actual age.

In China, y ou must each have a national ID card. We do not have that yet here in the US. The most readily accepted ID is a person's driver's license. If one does not drive, he or she can get an ID card from the driver's license bureau. These are handled by the state in which one lives. If he or she moves to another state, they must register their car in the new state and get new driver's license with their new address on it.

Haha, here in China you don't have to prove, and you don't have the right to prove it,you just work or fulfill your responsibility until the age that you've given on your ID card though you are several years older than you are!

That's all very confusing and I can't make head or tail of what you said. This is the sort of trouble telling lies gets you into...hope you get things sorted out without too much trouble.

I'm not sure what you mean by younger birth date. I know that my sister-in-law (from Taiwan) has two different birthdays, but that never really made sense to me. Do you have a birth certificate or did they not have those when you were born? I would stick to what you have been using all along. How much difference is there between what is on your ID card and the birth date you use?

I would go ahead and stick with what is on the ID card since you don't have official documentation of the other date. If you want to share the old style birth date, you can, but it is basically your word against the official document (your ID card). Is there a lot of difference between the two? In my sister-in-law's case, the difference is only a month or so. I'm sure that in older times, it might have been more, especially if it was during times of stress. Have a great week!!!

That is to say,the birth date on my ID card is younger than the date when I was born.In fact every Chinese has two birthdays, and we remember and celebrate the Chinese Lunar Calendar birth date. Hehe,I can never find my birth certificate and my parents told me my birth date. Many people's birthday is in the parents' memery, maybe you cannot understand it---When I was born,it's a time of storm and stress. I've been using the birth date on my ID card, and it's used in my all profiles,it's counted by the New Style. But my true birth date is not on that date at all!

Hi,daeckardt!I have never cheated anybody and I don't want to tell lies here. In fact there's nothing serious because Chinese people use both the New Style and the Chinese lunar calendar, especially in the rural area. I can tell you that my whole family have two birth dates each,do you believe it?Hehe, the birth date on the ID card is from the New Style, meanwhile each has a birth date from the Chinese lunar calendar, mostly it's not as the same as the date from the New Style,of course the reasons are different, but the government just admits the birth date on the ID card, which is filed. Here at myLot I've used my lunar calendar birth date because of my carelessness, not the one on my ID card, and there is only some months' difference.I hope it never bring me any trouble if I register the Paypal.

I know that this will not affect your earnings.Because here in Maylot not want personal information but I personally wrote them true.I think that we should not hide this thing. This is only the date and year of birth we.

MyLot do want pesonal oinformation and they also state in the Terms that it should be correct: "By using the myLot services, you represent and warrant that (a) all registration information you submit is truthful and accurate; (b) you will maintain the accuracy of such information; (c) your use of the myLot services does not violate any applicable law or regulation; and (d) you are sixteen (16) years of age or older. Your myLot account may be deleted and your membership may be terminated without warning, if we believe that you have violated any of the Terms of Use Agreement. You will not be entitled to any accumulated earnings if your account is terminated for one of the reasons listed above." http://www.mylot.com/o/terms.aspx

Since the birthdate is already on your ID, why not just use the birthdate whenever needed? There is no need to disclose that the birthdate in your ID is not your actual birthdate. No one will know in the first place. So perhaps just assume that the birthdate is your birthdate and things should be fine.

In fact the two dates are almost the same, there are not too many differences between them.

Because it is a little hard for chinese to take the money out of paypal account.

Have you have a Paypal account? Is it easy to apply one in the countryside?I've heard from one of your discussions that you have to pay 35 dollars for withdrawing the payout each time with a bank card,is that so?

It only matters if your younger age would make you to young to use the site. I think it's 13 on this site, but I'm not sure. You aren't a child so they really don't care if you are 45 or 48 or... You aren't trying to cheat or steal. It's just how old you want to admit to being.

Your birthdate proves to the world that you are who you say you are. not using your birthdate on your id card would take away from the credibility.

Wait, is that legal? In my home country it's illegal to provide fake data for your national ID. You are supposed to take it always with you and show it to the police if you're asked in any moment by law, so you must provide correct data for it. It would be nice to be able to do something like that I don't think it would affect confirming your Paypal account though.

I just put into my true birth date instead of my ID card birthdate while I was registering myLot. They always admit the date on the ID card when I have to show my birth date.

Hi,Oldsix! Yeah. It's true with my dad as well.He didn't register with his real birthdate.Actually he doesn't know what his birthdate is.You know, the lunar calendar thing. I think it won't be a problem. But I don't know, really.Anyway, good luck with withdrawing~BTW,how are you gonna withdraw it?It's gonna take $35 dollars if we wanna use our Chinese bank accounts.

If there's lots of trouble or money to register an account,I'll refuse to do that. Here when I wanna register the Paypal on line, first I have to have got a Chinese bank account, and they introduce a China Unionpay card. Can I get that in the countryside area?

What do u mean by younger birth dates? I thought there's only one birth date for all of us. U mean u are using a fake birth date whenever u are applying for stuffs and don't they check your ID for confirmation? WHen it comes to paypal, i think it should be all right for u to use your younger birth date, because they don't have the means to determine if it's real. What paypal needs is just your bank acount details and name must be correct.

I have been used the birth date on my ID card, but it turned out that it's a wrong date because of my parents' wrong remembering. But it isn't allowed to change the birth date since it's been filed........... And here at myLot I've used my true birth date but not the one on the ID card. That's that! Of course I use the birth date on my ID card to do everything concerned.

sometimes we tend to forget our natal day because of hectic schedule from work and i have experienced that. i noticed it was my birthday until my auntie greeted me when i woke up. so to remind us always why not include it on our ID to remind us daily.

if you've been using the younger birth date ever since, it wouldn't affect. if you've used that data in your bank info then it won't affect your PayPal account. have you checked the requirements for a PayPal account. if all of your public documents has the younger birth date then there's no problem.

It is illegal to provide the false information and you will be charged in doing so at my place. In paypal, you have to verify your account with your local bank account or your credit card or your debit card. I hope you do not try to cheat by giving wrong date of birth. I like to tell the true and I hate to cheat.

I don't like to lie at all. Here in China many people did so before for some reason, but now the file managements are seriously normalized, all the babys' birthdays are recorded in the birth certification, and we don't have to worry about forgetting our kids' birthdays.

No offense but this question could really open a can of worms. Considering this is a multicultural website. One would think you should just use the birthdate on your ID card. Because technical how do you really prove your younger birthdate. All that would be is an estimate. Unless one has a calender of events in their life up to the second. I know they didn't have Facebook back then. So I'm pretty sure that up to the second data doesn't exist. I guess the next question would be are you truly old enough to be on this website. Best Wishes!
