The story goes that God told Abraham to kill his son but stopped him just before he did it. Supposedly, God was testing Abraham. Does this sound like God to you?? God already knows our minds. Why would God need to test us?? Maybe, there is another answer. At the time of Abraham, People had many gods. Abraham was the start of having only one God. Abraham was probably well known and if he would kill his son for this God, this God must be God. Of course, what God would allow anyone to kill their son. This God must have morals for anyone to follow. God had to stop the killing. These are all stories created to start a religion. None of them are true. People today claim that God asked them to kill or hurt others. People use God to justify their actions. After all, with God's backing, you can do anything and be right. THIS IS NOT GOD!!!! God is Unconditional Love. Anyone who can attain to love unconditionally is at a much higher level. Evil is no longer a way. God will Never ask you to hurt, hate or kill others. If you think He is, you better start to question!! Tell me what you think!!

Because you have only a passing knowledge of the Bible, I don't expect you to understand the importance of this passage or the importance of being tested. The testing of your faith develops steadfastness in the face of discouragement. Steadfastness in turn develops character, and character develops hope. This test was not to show God anything, but to show Abraham the tendencies of his heart. As I believe you have said, Actions speak louder that words. Think about it. Because the journey took three days, Abraham had a lot of time to think about what God had asked of him. Why didn’t he argue with God and plead for his son’s life during this three day journey? I think Abraham learned for himself just how much he truly trusted God to keep His promise to him.

Should one really trust anyone who asks you to kill????? Seems like blind faith to me. There are many other ways to learn steadfastness. The challenges in our lives along with those around us point the way. After a challenge has been overcome, the strength gained from the experience will generate steadfastness through the next challenge ahead. You might see wisdom in the story of Abraham, overlooking the dark side of the message. God will never ask anyone to hate, hurt, or kill. This is not GOD!! God is Unconditional Love!!

Can you hear yourself?? Abraham knew God was going to save the day so He would try to kill his son because God ordered it. PLEASE!!!THese are stories. Why do you try your best to make them fit??? God will never teach blind obedience. If God tells me to kill anyone, God better get ready for a million questions because I'm going to want to know what is wrong with God. God will never ever tell anyone to hate, hurt or kill. It's just not going to happen. People will convince themselves in order to justify evil. Regardless of the excuses for evil, it returns to teach what the choice really means. We choose what we want to learn with our choices. As you have seen in this world, some lessons can be really hard ones to learn.

You are totally blind to what I have said. Let me try to reason your view. If Abraham knew ahead of time then God knew Abraham knew ahead of time so why play games with a test when the test will also teach others that it's ok to justify killing when you think you have God's blessing??? It doesn't add up!!!! You assume God can only be found through your religion or not at all. God is not in my imagination. Twist then turn, you will justify your view somehow. You are defending killing, hurt, and hate. Really THINK!!! Do I really have to tell you??? Search your heart. Is that really God???? Deep down. We all know God. Put your books down. Remember.

God was testing Abraham's faith. hr used his son to prove his point. i believe that god believed in Abrahm's faith more than than Abraham did himself.

bird: Forgive me for butting in on your discussion with sender, but how do you know that believing has never ever been important to God?

Yes, but believing has never ever been important to God. It is important only to religion which is what they were getting started. Because it was written in a holy book doesn't make the story true. This is not God!!

6precious102. God wants all His children to Know the truth not just believe in the truth. We are meant to discover it all. Beliefs are not always true. Religions are the only ones who value beliefs because that is the only way to guraranty followers. The universe was not created on beliefs. Your comments are always welcome 6precious102. There is nothing to forgive.

It is an interesting question, riddles with confusion. Kirkergaard argues for a teleological suspension of the ethical; that is, that any direct command of God can supersede the ethical because the outcome is good. Myself, I am undecided about this matter. all the best urban

Of course it is a dangerous precedent for the deluded but... Duv Well, I am not sure one can be mistaken when you hear God speaking Vor Of course the deluded maniac would also say that Duv God's ways, God's thinking are not our ways, they are higher and different so he might make a direct request involving a teleological suspension of the ethical Vor Of course the deluded maniac would also say that Duv But I am not deluded, I think Vor Of course the deluded maniac would also say that Duv but I often err, does the deluded maniac think that? Vor well has God ever asked of you to do anything unethical? Duv no but that doesn't mean he never would Me, like I said I am undecided about this all the best urban

People are using this to justify doing anything. The problem with this is that God will never make such a command, never has and never will. There are others ways to accomplish a desired goal. Remember God has an IQ off the scale. God is teaching His children to love unconditionally. Once they discover what evil really is, it's no longer a viable choice. When one reaches this level, thinking is much different than people today. God is at this level. So as I said. If anyone thinks God gave them a command to do anything evil, they better start asking a million questions because that is not God!

A point to consider??? If God is allowing you free will to make your choices, why would God command you at all??? Free will or no free will, can't have it both ways. Watch closely those who are considered crazy for there might be method to their madness.

i think the reason would be because human beings can change minds in an instant... it's like the one shown in the movie minority report... yes, the future can be seen and our thoughts are known, but since we have free will, there is like a 1% chanch that the future is change, only by a split second decision... in that story, abraham never wavered and didn't change his mind... that's just my speculation, i don't want to pretend i know exactly how God thinks nor what he will command people to do for what reason...

Don't you think God is rubbing off on me???? I am learning all the time. You should forgive those that hurt you. Why??? It is hurting you by holding on such hate. What is returning to you??? Hate and hurt. Know that regardless of any laws or actions of mankind, God will educate everyone on what their actions mean by returning it. People who choose evil, one day, will understand what evil is. Let's really think. By holding onto your hurt, it not only hurts you but it comes out in ways you might not realizes toward people all around you. Let it go!! You can put love in your heart and still fight to point people in the right direction. It can be an act of love to create drama in order that some understand that there is something wrong. Loose the hate. Always keep love in your heart and actions.

Perhaps, it's time to search for more interaction with God and discover for yourself just how God does think. It is within the reach of those willing to venture into undiscovered country.

yup, i'll definitely do that, after i have followed the 2 commandments that his son told us... i can't even forgive (yet) those who hurt me and so i think i'm even unworthy to talk to him... that's just how i feel... so you think you know how God thinks?

God can do anything to us, He can ask to kill or anything else. But it's not done to all people, just chosen people have a communication with God, like Abraham and another prophet. The story is true according to Al-Quran (AsShafaa'at:102).

I can tell you do not know God nor have you ever spoken with him. Perhaps it's time to search for God other than in books. Of course, this is if you really want to find God.

Islander7. Indeed, that is not the only thing people should question about their holy books. If Abraham had a son at 100 years old, how can people just accept such things blindly simply because it's in a book? If people would just use common sense and logic when they read holy books, they couldn't help but have a million questions. Another great evil of religions is when they teach people not to question. God loves us to question everything. The only ones who do not want you to question are those who want to shield you from the real truth. Indeed, God does want us all to Think not just accept!!

If God really told us to think , he could have not existed for this long , we would have found that he is not real and all we are simply making a time pass by praying .

bird to precious, "I was raised on the bible so do not pretend it was a mere read." Jesus, "If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me. Though you do not know him, I know him. If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and keep his word. Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad." Jews, "You are not yet fifty years old and you have seen Abraham!" Jesus, "I tell you the truth, before Abraham was born, I am!" bird to santhiangeline, "Am I wrong here but didn't Jesus come after Abraham????" If you were raised on the bible, why the question?

Am I wrong here but didn't Jesus come after Abraham???? Seems the story continues to change. The way you speak of it, God is trying to buy off Abraham into killing his son. Hmmm??? How much is a son worth??? I thought priceless. God simply does not do these things. Mankind is the one who manufactures this stuff. God will never do this.

Well now, isn't this Grand. I guess you win, bestboy19. How does it feel??? Basking in the Glory??? I guess ole bird ain't so smart cause he hasn't memorized every single word. Should we test your skills?? What would be the point?? You aren't looking so how could you ever see? Still, I have placed it out there for the day you might be ready. That is my only goal. Isn't the rest mere EGO?? There are much better things to do that feed EGO.

It is just a story god did not tell Abraham anything. Either he as under a delusional stress situation or he made up the story for his followers. However killing people was not a big problem at the time the Isrealites murdered whole communities of people men women and children in so that they could steal Caanan and they excused this by say god told them to do it. If you actually believe there is a god and that the biblical account in the old testament is true then most certainly god id indeed tell the Isrealites to kill loads of people

Kind of makes one wonder how people can justify the story. People like might makes right, however they haven't stopped to consider that intelligence wins out in the end. Is it really the intelligent thing to do, hating and killing? What are you teaching your children? Can you really do anything you want as long as you have Might backing you?? God isn't doing this. Mankind is. I hope people use their intelligence and question all the things in their holy books that simple do not add up.

Hi bird: I believe in God but I also think that we have to read the Bible according to the history. I don't think God would ask for a sacrifice like that but the teaching of this message in the Bible is that we have to put all our confidence to God. That was his only son but he trusted in God's destiny and Abraham didn't need to sacrifice his son just because he believed. ALVARO

Does God's system really need anyone's confidence in Him to make it work??? You are confident that the sun will be shining in the morning but if you weren't it would not matter. To have a viable planet the sun or energy source is a must. Everything that makes this world work according to the plan are in place including the people factor. The question remains. Do you understand what is really going on?? On the other hand, confidence in the newly formed religion and their God was a must at that time if the religion was to survive. There is nothing like a good story from a famous, trusted man of the times to get followers.

Didn't God already know this before He asked, then taught it's ok to kill if God asks it?? This is not God. People say that God is not evil. Why can they not see that asking anyone to kill for any reason is evil? If in no other way than it teaches one can figure a way to justify it.

Don't worry, It was just an impossible test of obedience. Abraham believe in God and is willing to do everything as God says to.

I'm saying that test never happened. God knows your mind. He already knows what your obedience will be. It's mankind's start to a religion. God will not ask anyone to kill or hate others. That is mankind not God.

bird123, Do not be too simple-minded people, or even too narrow minded. God, whatever the name is, which he revealed religion, the Prophet which he sent, or worship the way he taught. God always provides a lesson for humans. for example is the story of prophet Abraham. God really knows the contents of the human heart. even when you read this writing I believe God still continues to view the content of your heart. and then the question is, if God already knows the hearts of Abraham, why does he still test Abraham? the answer is easy. that is to be a lesson for peoples in the future. and then what lessons can we took? from Abraham story we can take a lesson how to face the trials of life, which is given by god. how with be patient, always be strong and brave, and always believes in the power of God.

If this is for the future, wouldn't God be smart enough to see that people could now justify doing great evil such as killing children with only God's blessing to make it right??? God is not teaching this lesson. This was mankind to get their religion a foothold to survive. This is not God! God has much more intelligence than to teach such a lesson.

To question is the start on the journey to discovery. God doesn't want blind faith or blind obedience from His children. God want us to Think and be able to stand on our own two feet. I know much of what you believe has been taught by your religion. That doesn't mean you should not question everything. God is Unconditional Love. God will never ask anyone to hate, hurt, or kill. That is not what God is teaching.

I do not know what your religion, but in my religion, when Abraham would cut his son neck. with His power, God replace the son of Abraham with a lamb. Here we are taught to always believe in all the commandments of God whatever the form.

The beginning of your discussion, in my opinion, helps give the idea that God does not exist, which I believe.

To question is the start on the journey to discovery. Based on religion's view of God, it's easy to understand why anyone would feel this way. I too at one point felt this way. This was the point which started my journey to discover the real truth whether God exists or not. I started to search for evidence of God and God's actions all around me since one can not trust holy books to be all true. Each new discovery opened new doors and pointed to new directions to investigate. If God exists then God can be found. Sometimes people who search find what they search for. When you understand this world and what God is doing, you start to understand God. Understanding is important or you will just end up confused. God has an IQ off the scale. That is why so few really understand God. Mankind adds their beliefs to fill in the gap of their missing knowledge. They should value beliefs less and the truth more. As with all knowledge, all the secrets of the universe and God stare us in the face. It is a test of intelligence who can see.
