We are having change of leadership in our office again for the nth time! They are changing him with a new one but someone from the inside of the office whom we also know about his capabilities because of leadership deficiency and management skills. On the other hand, the one who will replace him is good technically wise but also has poor leadership and not good with managing people. What would you prefer as your leader, someone who possess good management and leadership skills or one with good technical capabilities?

I think it's depend on where the position will be. In the top position I would like to have someone who has leadership and management skills, but the Managerial position should have both leadership and technical skills. Everyone on the top position should at least have a leadership skill, that way he can motivate and convince staff to do better for the company.

Well it's good have a leader who possess both but if you are to choose the quality of a leader among the two choices what will be your choice?

Definitely, I will choose the one with "good management and leadership skills". What did you say he has "good technical capabilities"? Are you computers or some kind-of-a machine that will have technical problems? You're humans. You need a leader. Your company needs someone who would understand the needs of the community and someone who could relate to whatever is happening in the progress and regress of each work. Anyway, who chooses the new boss? The higher bosses? Do you have a chance to relate your thoughts on the effects of these changes? Someone from the group must voice out the concerns to help out. But if you are one of the people who doesn't care at all to the company, no worries, just do your job, finish it, go home, relax, then go to the office the following day, mind your own business and do the same routine. As to your question, I would prefer someone who knows my needs, my capabilities and abilities. I would prefer someone whom I could approach also if there are any matters concerning the company. Good luck and happy mylotting!

Thanks. I totally agree with you that a good leader is someone who can relate with the people he is handling and a person you can relate with as well. By the way technical does not deal only with computers...

I like people with skills, because they know who to perform the same things they preaching to you to do and knows how long it actually takes to be done. Some followers have become great leaders and been a leader can be thought. but skills is always needed.

Definitely one with good leadership and management skills. We had this Head of a Department who was not even a graduate but because of his tremendous ability to delegate and lead he was put there. For a multinational having an undergraduate to head a Department speaks volumes of this man's capabilities. Under him profits soared and everyone was happy. It was a joy working under him. The Technical Manager reported to him although the Head knew not the abc of what this technician was doing.

Thanks. I agree with you good leadership skills and management is more on human resource, it deals with attitude, character and dealing with people.. how to manage people... You can have a highly technical leader but if He cannot command or manage people then you cannot run the company. As to the person you are talking about I think you can substitute your lack of education with training and experience and the company saw this in this person. You have technical people to take charge with technical aspects.

Of course the person should poses good leadership and management, technical skills are easy to acquire from continues training and exposure, though leadership skills can be develop but you are born with it initially.

I agree with you. For me I would rather have a leader who can relate with its staff rather than a technical person who can do the work perfectly but cannot relate with its staff...
