Losing weight or gaining weight

I admit I am gaining weight again. Losing weight is not an easy job, so also gaining weight, you might be aware of people who eat lots to gain weight, but they can't, similarly, many go on dieting, fasting, take pills, herbal stuff to lose weight, but they can't. In 2001 I was ill, lack of physical activity after my recovery made my weight 105 kg. I did the famous breathing exercises as taught by Ramdeb Baba of India, and my weight became 95 kg. . The important thing is, this exercise sets your body at right leve. You may lose or gain, till it is constant, but need to continue the exercises. But after retirement, and also due to diabetes neuropathy the physical activity has become less, I am gaining weight. So from today I have started doing them again, am sure I will be back to my 95 kg soon. Have you ever tried to gain or lose those extra pounds? What you did? Please share , also tell me your views on the breathing exercises. Thanks in advance. Professor ‘*Bhuwan*’. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

When i was just a kid until my 3rd year in College, i was so skinny. I tried every appetite stimulant pills to make me eat more, but to no avail, i was still skinny. Then, when i vacationed at my auntie's , i saw my cousin who was formerly so skinny, was already having a nice body. he told me what he was taking so i took it too. I also added poundage on my weight and i was so happy. But then, my face became moon face, my father was angry. I told him about it and consulted the doctor. It was an estrogen that is bad for the body and has side effects like that. So the doctor had me withdraw from it and my face went back to its former state. But i am happy, i gained what i needed - added poundage which gave me nicer body built. ! Now that i am older, it seems i am getting fatter, so i try to go on diet sometimes.

Hi Professor It is easy to gain weight than to lose weight. The last time I lost weight was when I had to skip lunch due to being too busy to eat. Now I have gain my weight back. I have not tried any breathing exercises to lose weight before. This is something new to me. Maybe I should give it a try.

Hi Professor, Few months ago i had about three months of holidays. i didn't work during that period and me and my hubby went a lot of places for vacation. I gained nearly 5 kilo of weight because all i did was eating and travelling around. When time came for me to get back my University, non of my clothes fit me and i was very worried. Two weeks before i went back to Uni, I did yoga and running regularly. I avoided fatty foods and ate lots of fruits and vegetables to keep myself full. As you mentioned, i did 'kapalbhati' yoga by Baba Ramdev and it was very beneficial for me. I was able to lose 3 kilos within 2 weeks without heavy exercising and any sort of medication. All natural and healthy way of losing weight is to exercise in a proper amount daily and eat nutritious and healthy food!

Hi, I've never tried breathing exercises and I never heard of them till now. How does that work? Does it work the abdomen or something? I lose and gain weight frequently. The most I ever gained was 20 pounds, and I brought it down in one year. It took a lot of discipline because I ran a mile every other day, and went to the gym every other day as well. I did a lot of jumprope which was a quick way to lose weight. Another thing I did was kickboxing. That really tones the muscles and helps control weight at the same time. For less strenuous exercise, I have done a fun dance class and I lost weight with that even though it didn't feel like I was exercising.

When I was in High School I weighed 130 pounds (59 kg) and it was pretty consistent. After Marine Corps boot camp I gained to 145lbs (66 kg)and that is where I stayed +- 5lbs. But after I got out of the Marines I started getting into bad habits and gained weight until I weighed 200lbs (91kg). This is due to a lack of exercise, fast food and eating too much. So I decided to change up the way I do things. Started running on the treadmill. This was slow at first, but I am slow able to run faster and further. Every other day I was on the treadmill just running. I used music and movies to keep me occupied. Started eating slower. It takes 20 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain that it is full. Eating slower and chewing properly will allow you to realize when you are full, before you eat too much. This helped me a lot. I was taught as a child to finish my plate, but now I realize that this wasn't the best advice, especially since many meals consist of 3 or 4 servings as opposed to 1. Started drinking more water. Water is a great substitute for soda and other sugary beverages. But I will not give up my 2 cups of coffee a day. Water keeps you hydrated and doesn't contain salt or sugar. Plus it is only 0 Calories. I lost 50 lbs (23 kg) and is at good weight just above where I was when I was at my fittest. I also went from 20% body fat to less that 10%. Now I am starting to gain muscle weight. Cheers Professor

Hi Professor, I was overweight earlier this year but I've lost 30 pounds and am feeling much better now. I still need to lose another 10 to 15 pounds. I lost the weight simply by eating smaller portions, especially bread, potatoes and rice, and I eat more fruit and vegetables that are less fattening. Blessings.

I've never tried to gain weight, so why is is so much easier than losing it? Not for everybody though. My cousin has anorexia, and she has the worst trouble with gaining.... Last time I successfully lost a lot of weight it was by counting calories and walking regularly.

Hi Professor, Weight is a constant worry as far as I am concerned.I gain weight very easily but find it very difficult to lose the unwanted kilos ...so it is a constant battle. The moment I have a good time eating out at restaurants or attending weddings etc I gain weight...I go for walks and do all the housework now like hand washing the clothes, sweeping and cleaning the floors and also watering the plants in my garden, so that I get enough exercise each day...

Well about my Weight gain experience... Iam an currently 20 year old boy and in my vacations i often go abroad where my dad works.. unlike spending my vacations in my home country i used to play, swim and do all sort of outdoor activities. When i used to go abroad there being in a flat and a unknown country i used to be in house everyday just being for one month abroad and eating fast foods made my weight gain rapidly after i came home to my country lots of clothes were unfit to me. But as my college and all the activities resumed it automatically ended my weight gain process.. I didn't did any exercise . Its only i used to play a lot which made me slim up till now

During my 1st year college my weight was 62-63 kilograms and I thought I am that chubby so I need to lose weight and then when I was in my 3rd year level I weighed my self and I was startled when I weighed. I was 78 kilograms I can;t believe I gained too much weight. So I decided to lose weight. SO far my weight lately is 70kgs. I enrolled myself in a Gym.

In my case, I really need to gain weight. For goodness' sake, I have been underweight for years now. And I think I'm losing weight even more. People who have seen me after quite a long time say that I am really getting thinner. So, I guess I have to eat MORE nutritious food and have more sleep. Yes! More sleep! :

I love to eat and I didn't actually have had any formal gaining weight or losing weight regimen. I just realize I am gaining if my jeans won't fit or they are too loose. In my line of work, an ESL teacher I do a lot of physical activity so whenever I am gaining weight I feel heavy while jumping or dancing with kids. What I usually do which I also told my mom to do is to walk in my normal speed for 30 minutes everyday. Even I don't get out of the house, while thinking, reading or even watching TV, I keep on walking and/or moving my body. My mom is near her senior citizen stage so I told her to watch out her carbohydrates and sugar intake. Even she feels like eating, she discipline herself from eating more. She did a great job. She doesn't like the walking in the house that I do so at night when it is cool here, she goes out with her sister or friend and walks around the neighborhood. Its doing her well. I am proud to say she is very fit. Cheer on your weight loss. You have done it before so you can do it again. Happy mylotting!
