We use to put them in the car and drive around until they stopped crying and fell asleep. But who can afford to drive like that these days, hope the rest of you have better ideas.

This is one way of treating this, when I was raising babies we felt that babies could not be spoiled and did not leave them to cry. I really couldn't tell which way works best and I have seen both ways come and go in popularity.

usually , babies cry because they are hungry, bored or just didnt get what they want. i fed my baby when she is hungry and let her cry when she didnt get what she wants. she just stops. i dont always give in what she wants or else, she'll end up spoiled. =)

Hello nez and welcome to myLot. As for your question about babies crying and how to stop them. Any remedy depends on the babies age and reason for crying. Start by making sure the baby is dry or not hungry. If the baby is a new born it may need to be wrapped snugly in a receiving blanket. Sometimes they just need to cry. My own daughter would cry like her heart was broken when she got overly tired. Sometimes they are just too tired to go to sleep.

Some times it takes a while to learn to read your baby. They cry differently for different reasons.

If a baby is crying he or she could be too hot or too cold, want a drink of milk or have a diaper that needs to be changed. The crying could be worse if the baby has a tummy the is hurting. For colic careful bouncing on a bed can work wonders. A young baby needs safe handling and must have his or head supported. A toddler might cry if he or she is tired. He or she might want a hug to calm down sometimes. I think music can make a child that is crying listen and stop crying. Often a surprise can make a child end the crying. For an older child he or she should say why he or she is upset if this is possible. If it is not then a picture card could assist.

Thanks for the reply. Indeed, one hug a maternal caress can cause the infant to calm down.

There are alot of reasons babies could be crying. If you have tried everything from feeding them, changing them and making sure they are comfortable then just try rocking with them. My youngest daughter went through a phase from 3 months to about 6 months where the only way she would go back to sleep at night was in her swing. She did out grow it but it's what worked for her. Every baby is different and like different things to help soothe them.
