Ok, i personally am a driver and am wondering why some people come to the door with the money for their order in one hand....and what look like a few bucks in tip in the other. sometimes i dont get the tip, its like they just have it in their hand to tease me! has anybody done this? if so, how can you be so cruel?! lol

No, and one of the reasons why I no longer do that is because the last delivery person that came to my house took off with my money, the order cost me about 30 dollars and I gave him 40 dollars because I didn't have the exact amount of money, this guy took off when I NEVER said keep the change. I haven't tease anybody.

hmm. well, in our defense...we are so use to people giving us money and not expecting change that we just hand over food, get money and roll on out. this is probably what happened. Either way, sorry this happened. Do keep in mind that some drivers do prioritize (when they have multiple deliveries) who gets their food first by who has the higher tip history.

AdalieM, did you ask them if they had change? I don't think he should have just assumed all the money was a tip and just taken off, but I think the payer should point out that it's NOT all for the driver/delivery person and ask for change. If I mean for them to keep it all, I point out that it's all for them, but I also like to think that if I didn't intend for them to keep it all, I would ask for a certain amount back. I think I may have even done that in the past because I didn't have the proper amount of $1 bills. Does that make sense?

Chances are they're not sure of the cost, so have the extra in their other hand in case. Tips are extra, anyway. Delivery people are being paid a wage anyway and, as you so neatly showed above, it's hard to know how much to tip. Some of them think they deserve piles of extra cash for doing their job. If they're friendly, arrive within the time promised and don't look like they expect a tip, they'll get one. If they're grumpy, in a rush to get away or look like they're expecting extra cash, they get nothing.

Of course, I always tip the delivery person, and make it a practice not to order out unless I am able to leave a tip of at least 15-20%. I don't find it morally right to leave a lousy tip or to not tip the delivery person at all. It is just proper courtesy to show your appreciation when someone serves you by tipping them. I usually order online by credit card so that I can include the tip with my purchase automatically. If not, I will give it separate, but I always tip. One could argue that this was just the way I was brought up though, I suppose, but I still wouldn't do it any other way. I have never teased any pizza delivery person either - never had any reason to.

nice! making it can be fun. I work at a joint and thought i could do it at home.....didnt happen. I know there's a certain % of the order that your "supposed" to tip....i can care less about that. as long as its not the cents to the nearest dollar, im good. example: order is $15.76 and they give 16.00 and say "keep the change" with a straight face. Thats kind of a slap to the face, you know?

Here in the Philippines we don't usually give tips to the delivery guy since we find the Pizza as too expensive so chances are we don't want to give bonus.

Absolutely delivery people should be tipped. I think they even count on it as part of the way they make money. It isn't an easy job, and sometimes the public are jerks. I don't think I have ever seen a delivery person who was not pleasant and friendly.

I do tip my pizza delivery drivers because I appreciate their service. I don't tease them, though. I think that's pretty mean!

I do tip them .....they have a crappy job and a little extra is in order here...I have ordered pizza in a snowstorm and they come...bringing me a hot supper! Besides that...when I call I get faster service!

haha that's terrible. I always tip the delivery person because on the phone they always sound so grumpy. I feel like I owe it to them to cheer them up a little with at least a dollar or two.

I will never ever order pizza to my house. From now on, I will always go out to the store to buy it. A few months ago at a friend's party, we ordered some pizza of course. And when the delivery man showed up to deliver our pizza, we paid him and then he asked for a tip. We said we didn't want to give out a tip to him but he kept on asking us for a tip. Finally we closed the door on him because he was being annoying and he still didn't leave. He stood outside at the door waiting for the tip. We felt bad for him and eventually we gave up and gave him the tip.

I worked on a Pizza place a few years back, and i know how the work is, so yeah, I aways tip the deliver guy when i call for pizza. Sometimes its the tips what makes the job, paycheck its kinda low to rely on it =P
