Did a little more gardening/yard work etc today. Cleaned up Busters "remains". Mowed the yard. Planted 5 containers as well. Photo attatched. 2 have spinach and 1 with Caesar lettuce and 2 with Vivian lettuce. Both lettuce are the leeaf type. Do you have container gardens? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Most of my gardening will be containers this year. I have several containers of tomatoes, some with basil. I have a container that I put two blueberries in. Bought them at WalMart and they have done nothing, so I put some herbs in that planter as well. They will not interfere if the blueberries ever kick in. I planted two small planters this morning before it got too hot. I made them very full with geraniums, salvia, petunias, dusty miller, dianthus and lobelia. When the plants have settled in I will take pictures. My potatoes are in a container, my peas are in a raised bed.

I got some advice about blueberries at the end of summer, now if I can just remember what it was. I think I will order a couple of dwarf plants and keep them in containers because you can keep the acid soil they need. I got that advice from a nice lady I met through freecycle.

I passed up peas this year. Too much work for such a small veggie. Almost bought blueberries but passed that idea as well for some reason. That's our next project is flower baskets for our Shepards Hooks out front. That'll run us about $100 or more as we usually have maybe 10 baskets. Plus petunias and geraniums etc. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Well, I still have my climbing rose on one side and clematis on the other. I just had to cut them down for the winter when the old arbor couldn't take it anymore. But they'll soon enough climb up it.

At the Cub outdoor garden center, they have large potted tomatoes for like $13 or so. They can be left in the pots as well. I may get some tomorrow if theres nothing promosing at Pauhls in Apple Valley. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I couldnĀ“t posibly buy a tomato plant for that price. With that amount of money I could fill my fridge with veggies and fruit from the farmerĀ“s market. I dare buy a perennial plant like oregano or chives for maybe a dolar or two.

$13 for a tomato plant? (looks at the 50-odd little tomato plants all potted nicely up in the greenhouse). I sell my extra ones for 50p each to raise money for our Scout group.

Don't you love cleaning up the "remains?" Try cleaning up after two dogs, that's a lot of fun...NOT!!! The only container gardening I have done is with herbs, I never considered lettuce and spinach, maybe because my containers are not that big..

Oh, I think I remember you saying that about the Great Danes, yep that would be like cleaning up after a horse..My girls, they are not that big, about the size of a small border collie, but next to my daughter's dog's toy poodle mess, Penny and Ciara make a much bigger one..

hi grandpa bob I am sitting here wondering could I grow something in a pot in my room? lol Even just some thing like an African violet or something cheery and alive? I thought about upside down tomatoes but not in my room as its carpeted and oh the screams from housekeeping if I soiled their carpet with water drips.

Yeah. I've had chives grow indoors during the wintertime here. I think the violets would work well indoors. Tomatoes need a LOT of sun though. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Now why did I think you were going to rest today, lol.. I see you have been busy again today. Although I have no garden you are tempting me to start some form of container experiment her in my apartment. lol I do hope you get a lot of sun so all the wonderful veggies grow nicely this summer.

I've never done that type of gardening but I'm seriously thinking about it this year. Do you leave them out in the sun and rain just as you would a garden? I just mowed the front yard today, we have rain moving in--again--and I wanted the street to look nice. My front yard was a little ratty, we've had very few days when the grass dried out enough to mow!

Yeah, they are staying right where they are now. I use the flower pots like this for smaller growing veggies and or spices. Last year I had chives and basil in the same containers. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I don't do container gardening as it's so difficult to keep things from drying out. You only have to forget once and the whole lot are gone.

I thought you were going to rest for the weekend . I did some transplanting from a container where I have red lettuce seedlings to one of my raised beds. And I used a moment of fear (ran out of the house because of an earthquake) to rake the leaves on the lawn.

This is actually my 1st time gardening this year, period.Have never done it before.I planted in the ground.Still wanting to try the containers, though. I planted some lettuce, tomatoes, squash, peppers, onions, broccoli, cantaloupe and watermelon. I can tell when most everything will be ready to pick, except the lettuce and onions.Guess I will have to search the internet and find out more.Still I am so ready for some fresh vegetables, instead of the store bought.

I have herbs in containers on the patio, but apart from that everything edible's either in the garden or in growbags in the greenhouse. Not that it's big enough for that yet - it's all still in little pots. I mostly use containers just for flowers.
