Fashion Or Not?

Low Hip Jeans - Fashion or Faux Pas
Singapore
May 8, 2011 6:28am CST
Of late, I have to admit that there seems to be a rush for low hip jeans which made me think if they are indeed fashionable. No offense, but I am finding them unfashionable and distasteful, especially when they are being worn to reveal the bikini panties. I wonder if I am being overly conservative so, I am putting this up for everyone's opinion here. Have a look at the photos and let me know what you think - fashion or faux pas?

tammy27, My exact sentiments here, as well. I can understand your feelings about the jeans which is really throwing decency and propriety outside the door.

Hi sky I might be a little old fashion and even think old fashion, but to me they look horrible. I mean what woman would want to reveal what she is wearing underneath. There is way too many assaults on women and girls and the people wonder why. If I had she would never wear this kind of jeans nor would I. Also it might just be me, but I think the girls that wear them it makes their hips look bigger than what they really are. I guess I am old fashion...

Hi rose, Looking from all the other responses, I do not think you are old fashion and like you, whatever is suppose to be inside remains inside especially one's underwear. I don't like this because I don't find them appropriate for work or casual occasions. Besides, they are really conveying the wrong message and I worry for the wearer's safety.

I haven't seen anything worthy in the low hip jeans either ion boys or girls.IN guys its downright horrible and an affront to community values while in girls they don't help them score any attractive points among guys.Im a guy and usually have a bias towards such girls that they are trashy and of low moral calibre

pradoz, I can understand your perception especially when these jeans are the cause of it. But, girls will always be girls when being beautiful and most of all sexy is their nature. Still, I believe that they should always consider being decent and appropriate at all times to avoid such sentiments from us.

Well, some of the pics you uploaded are of some kind of "underwear trousers", and can't be considered low hip jeans, as it's a completely different thing I love low hip trousers because they're really confortable and fashionable, and I have the right body to wear them. Also, I don't use thongs, neither my underwear really shows when I'm wearing those kind of trousers -they only show if your trousers are under your hip line, you know-, so I know I'm not offending anyone

madteaparty, I am sure the low hip pants you have aren't the same as these ones I have shown or seen - for one, they are much lower than the norms. Anyway, I do like them as they were.

You know, I'm not digging the fashions lately either. Between the tight jeans, the hanging below the waste... and oh man! The 80's thing. Seriously? I grew up in the 80's and when they ended all we heard about through the 90's was how bad the fashion was in the 80's. So why did we go back to that? Personally, seeing a guys pants hanging below his boxers or a girls g-string halfway up her back is very distasteful to me.

ssebrinatw, Fashion is cyclical and what may be out of fashion now will just come back. But, these pants came with a newer alteration for the wrong reasons.

I personally think its trashy for women to be showing their underwear. They do make low rise underwear for people who prefer to wear jeans like that. I dont see it much around here but it isn't the summertime yet so all the people who do wear those things(mostly 14 and 15 year olds it seems) are not here yet. If that is the newest trend, I will have an interesting summer.

If I get out much this summer I will have lots of fun making fun of (insert dirty word here) girls who desire to show their underwear.

Just more of the decline of morality in the world today. And apparently the fashion industry is contributing. What would be the purpose of this kind of trash other than to reveal more of the body? And to what purpose?

yoyo1198, I am taking this, more like an accident occurring during the design phase - talking about some eureka. Anyway, I hope that girls will reconsider buying or rather wearing them for safety sake, knowing how warped this world is nowadays.

These jeans are truly yesterday's news! Thankfully, here in the US, these jeans are out of style!

rocketj1, Well, I believe it will be about some time when these jeans makes a comeback into your markets again. Fashion wear is just cyclical.

As I was reading your post all the way down, I have completely answered it to be okay with low hip jeans but after I saw the picture I better go change my mind. Yes, I was really visualizing it at first to be like jeans I similarly wear everyday. I love hip jeans and they're the only jeans that fits me because I have very slim waistline and most often it will only fit on my hip, but the LOW hip jeans was way too open. Maybe sometimes fashion should be a little conservative and it must be appropriate, please.

orang13, I have to say that these low hip jeans aren't what they used to be and I wonder whats on today's designers' minds. I don't think they are fit for any occasions and with the chaotic world out there, I cannot imagine how safe these will be for the girls wearing them. Hi Sky, I've seen girls wear low hip (and sometimes skinny) jeans and I actually find some of them sexy and nice. But this is the first time I've seen this kind of jeans worn with undies sticking out for the world to see. It's definitely not a good sight and unarguably not fashionable. Even boys (which I assume would be one of the reasons for showing this much "stuff") won't find it sexy.

doryvien, I have seen low hipped jeans in my time but I have to say that these current ones are just way too low for my comfort or sense of appealing. I wonder what the next fashion fad can think of i.e. tears at strategic places. Let's hope they will stay sane and moderate.

I never saw this kind of fashion before! Looks weird and not suit with my taste~ Others might say it a fashion. But I am totally not in~ That is not the right way to wear a jeans.

hello! I was actually quite shocked to see that there are pants like that. It's like the female equivalent for baggy pants in men. (Men revealing their underwear is such a turn-off):P It's no wonder I haven't seen women here wearing that, we're quite a conservative town. And even if we were "liberated" I bet only a few women would dare wear them. For me, it is also distasteful. I really believe that women can be sexy without revealing much.

nice quote there. thank you! I bet Catherine Zeta Jones doesn't have any problem with sexiness. She is sexiness herself! She's one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. haha It would be nice to see girls projecting sexiness without revealing too much. It all depends on self-confidence, which, sadly, some are lacking....

Having your underwear showing might be ok if you're working in a strip club, but not for everyday people. Low-rise jeans are fine IF YOU HAVE A GOOD BODY and if your underwear/butt is not hanging out, but if you are thick around the waist, they look horrible. And even for skinny girls, if they wear low-rise jeans that are too tight it makes them look chubby around the waist.

emmeaki, I am sure you are aware and saw for yourself how inappropriate these jeans are which are unsuitable and worst sending out wrong messages, courting potential trouble. Even for a well endowed body, I do not think proper decent wear will discount one's beauty and sexiness.
