This morning i was trying to sleep in way late. Mothers Day you know and all that. My son was trying to keep from waking me and Coconut usually hangs out with him on weekends and lets me sleep. havent been getting enough rest lately anyway on count of my arm/shoulder. Coco nut came back up on the bed, licking my hands and arms. I told her, no cleaning mom right now. tried to go back to sleep. she does this cleaning thing because she never had babies i think. she cleans other dogs when they are around even...geesh. used to clean my big dog when he was here. Now that was a sight to see. Coco cleaning this big black labs ears, face, etc. Sometimes i feel bad about not letting her have babies just once. it would have been nice to have another Coconut around. Have you regretted getting your pet fixed? Now im also thinking, as smart as she is, its possible she was saying Happy mothers day mom. Since she usually dont do this and moved to my ear to lick and whine. so, had to get up. Did you sleep in today?

Out of my three stooges. The Kat family. I have The mama, son and daughter. I didnt have the females fixed in case i wanted kittens but Bubba Kat the male has been fixed. I havent regretted it because of the way male cats can be sometimes. He was about a year when he took that trip to the vet. He had started attempting to rape his sister. When the females come in heat her runs around here meowing loudly. I think he likes that smell but he cant remember why. He is like a overgrown kitten. That one dairy queen commerical drives me nuts. Ya know the one that says 'we blow bubbles with kittens in them'. I just think big deal. doesnt make me want to go there.

All my cats are strickly inside cats. Miss Kitty (mama) tries to be hoedini at that time. But she was too scared to go anywhere and i got her back inside right away. Bubba abd Sissy are big scaredy cats and are content with just looking outside. I do have a huge cat cage but dont use it much. They act all scared outside. I want to get some chicken wire and make a tunnel that goes from the windo to the cat cage so they can go out when they want. Or maybe build a screened in small patio.

I did sleep in yesterday and my stray cats were not happy about it! I usually go out and give them food around 7-8 AM and yesterday it wasn't till around 9. It wasn't a good day for me (my first without my mother) and sleeping in helped to shorten it. I recently read that licking is a dog's way of demonstrating submission but I'm not sure that's true. Don't feel bad that Coconut had no pups--think of what would happen if they got bad homes or ended up at a kill shelter. By spaying her, you gave 4-5 other dogs a second chance at life and maybe one of those dogs saved someone's life.

I don't think it harms a she dog not to have a litter. I didn't realise but my Lucy was in pup when I took her to be fixed, she was just a baby herself and I don't think she would have coped well with puppies to care for. She goes "funny" when most other dogs try to play or show friendship. She is well socialised though with both humans and other dogs. I think Coconut is just a darling who loves her Mommy. Mother's day for me was like any other day. I was surprised when one of my daughters rang after lunch to say hello. They don't normally contact me on birthdays or Mother's day.

Oh yes, I actually prefer my fur babies Bon...Tulip is the name of my sweety girl goat. I also have a cat called Banjo and my baby scruff...a little dog I rescued about 16 months ago...I think she must be about 2 years old. They all have their own personalities and I love them to bits.

that is quite sad. sorry Mstickle. you would think the babies you raised would have more care. but some just dont get it i guess. 3 of mine just called. but 2 did give me a gift and card. they know id be sorely hurt if not. well you got Lucy and Pickles and the other goat that i forgot its name. they are so cute.

Awwww Coconut sounds like a very loving sweet little dog. I think she was just concerned for you because you were in bed longer than she thought you should be and that upset her fearing something was wrong with you. Animals are so sensitive and seem to pick up on things that we wish they didn't. To be honest, no, I don't regret at all getting my fur babies fixed. The reasons are, they won't get cancer in their reproductive organs, they won't be miserable when they come in heat and we never have to be worried about them getting pregnant. BUT, I do see your point though. However, there's so many that are in need of homes so you did the right thing by her.

thanks catsanddogs im sure you are right. and if anything happens to her i will just go get another similar at the shelter. although they are a bit like people in personality and you never find one exactly the same. but then her puppies she would have had would probably not be either.

Most of the pets that I've had, I had them spayed/neutered. One cat who wandered up and decided she was going to live with me, I found to be pregnant after a week or so. So I went ahead and let her have the litter and gave the kittens away and then had her spayed. That cat stayed with me for 13 years and I was heartbroken when we had to put her to sleep. But I've not regretted having all of the others 'fixed' over the years. They all in some way took care and mothered each other or me. My sleep habits are so raggedy that 'sleeping in' wouldn't apply. I stay up most of the night and go to bed at all kinds of odd hours. Get up and doodle around and then take a nap sometime during the day. Right now I'm up again after a nap of a couple of hours.

What have you decided about the shoulder? Is it a torn rotator cuff? Surgery?

I feel bad for animals that are fixed. Used to be they would atleast have one litter. I think some animals are just more loving that others. She doesn't what it is like have pups but obviously has the love and would probably have made a good mother. It is sort of sad that she never had any.

I kind of wish I had let Sab have kittens, she was so smart! But, there didn't need to be more kittens. Prissy never had kittens and she washes Daisy and Sparky all the time, she probably would've been a good mommy too, but again, there doesn't need to be more kittens. I think if you have a mutt cat or dog, while they are healthier, there is no reason to let them breed, too many animals are destroyed now without putting more puppies or kittens in the world.

thats so true and one reason i had her fixed was because of the problem of giving away and finding good homes for the extra ones.

My little guy is special too. He wasn't the one that woke me this morning at all. My oldest son is living with us right now and he decided to cook me breakfast. So I was waken by the smell of bacon frying. I first thought I was dreaming but realized real quick that I wasn't. Breakfast was good..Thank you son..

My vet always recommends that we let them have the first litter and spay them later. I did that with mine but had a problem giving away her babies.I kept one male and donated the rest but to get animal lovers is a problem as most want dogs as watch dogs.

maybe where you live. i know when i was in florida, i had an awful time trying to give my big lab away. no one wanted a big dog and i wasnt able to care for him proper any more. he kept getting sicker and i had to let him be put down from his getting to bad to cure at that point anyway, the little girl i have, everyone wanted. but as you see she survived it all.

I want to get back on a very early routine, now that the weather is hot. I slept in, but was up by 7:45. We now have the windows open in the bedrooms, which should be nice, but my neighbors decided, at 2:30 in the morning, to have company, play loud music, start a fire in the fire pit and pour gasoline on it, and drink. One of the women kept shsh ing them saying to be quiet there are old people that live here and old people that live there. I never regret having my animals spayed and neutered. I have lovey dovey male cats that will clean and lick. I think they like how I taste.

Hi bun! It is amazing how animals seem to "know" things. My "boys" (cats-Star & Luna) had no idea it is Mommy's Day). Luna, who say's "Mama" all day long hasn't even said it yet today!lol Don't feel bad about Coco. You have given her lots of love and happiness. She is such a cutey too! My boys were actually quite bad today. They sat in the kitchen since 2:00 waiting for their "wet food" crying and whining until I gave in at 3:00! They usually get fed around 4:00 or 5:00. They have dry food to eat all day and night. Some animal behavior can't be explained or changed! Star and Luna won! I couldn't take another minute of their whining!

Happy Mothers Day bunnybon Sounds like Coco was licking mom to wake and or maybe to rock her to sleep. lol I don't have any pets as my building will not allow it. My fish were happily swimming as usual. I actually slept most of yesterday and was not able to sleep last night so I guess I will crash tonight after my evening out. Wishing you grand evening!
