June is near and that is school time again here in our country and now May, is the time for me to prepare for the kids school and buy their necessities.. So last night i was budgeting and i had 3000 pesos on hand for their uniforms and school supplies. It was not enough but that is what i have on hand right now, it was a good thing i was able to buy their bags last month, one was worth 699 pesos, it was a backpack with lunch bag and the one was a sling bag worth 499, it was hot wheels so it was expensive. but i still bought it because it is durable and i know it will last for the whole year. So now with 3000 extra, i went to my son's school, i found this private school which is good and a bit cheaper than the rest, 500 was registration, so i paid for it first and the rest will be paid monthly installment for 1500! ( phew!!) and then the books are still exclusive since it has not arrived yet. So i have only 2500 left and we, me and kids decided to go to purchase school supplies early so we wont be mixing in the crowd. There were so many they needed like notebooks, pencils, sharpeners, crayons, rulers, scissors, water colors, envelopes and whatsoever! i spent nearly 1500!! i was like..wow prices are that high! a notebook now costs 12.00 already! i could remember back time it was only 6.00 pesos! I believe it was a bit pricey because i chose ones with quality so i know it will last them for the whole year. I still have some money left for their shoes and uniform..but i am waiting for this years bonus to add more to it It is hard to really budget - i am still learning the art of it...but i am making progress. but really prices are zooming high!!!!

I noticed when we went to Divisoria last month, the schjool supplies there are really cheap. Out of curiosity , though i am not buying because my daughter has already graduated from college, i take a look at their quality. They were also of good quality though. The uniforms and shoes were also cheap. I think you should try it there if you are just in Manila , while it's not enrollment time yet. But really. . .the prices of commodities are all beginning to soar higher!

Oh yes i've heard about prices in Divisoria are really cheaper..but the thing is i am far from there! lol and maybe because prices are higher is that they have to ship it from Manila to Zamboanga Letran- yes that is a good suggestion

hello jazel, I enrolled my kids to a public school where everything is free. From uniforms, school supplies, bags and no tuition fees. Some believed that public school won't make a good students.. Oh,that i can say it all depends on the kid itself. My daughter graduated from a public school that always compete with private schools not just private ones but even with exclusives schools and i am proud to say that, this public school where my kids are being enrolled tops some of those private and exclusive school when it comes to academic competition. Few students from this public school even compete/sent abroad to compete for international Math/Science and other academic subjects. The big factor is...everything is almost free...this school opening they city government is planning to give free shoes. Isn't a big big discount? Now i can save my money for other things

Wow so lucky jaiho! are you in makati? i've heard makati has great public schools..sad to say, it is not that way here in Zamboanga. :( parents provide the uniforms, school supplies, bags, and shoes even. I hope they will be able to do something about it and even the quality still needs to be upgraded..so parents like me still resort to private school for our children.

Oh in your place there will start school period? I live in Latvia and in may end we will end school and there would be three months free from school till September. Yes this time is the craziest when parents need to buy this things for school. And every year the prices are increasing. In my place we have lati 1LS is about two dollars so to buy diary we need four dollars and all this pencils, notebooks, circle, rubers, rullers etc. They all cost money not to talking about books they are so expensive. You said about that nice bag for your kid. And I happy that you bought It for your kid. How do you will not bought If the kid wants It right? Parents always want only the best for their kids. I hope you will buy all things for your kids. Good luck!

i was away for a year and last month i was surprised that for a tini-tiny lotion i already had to pay 50 pesos. I thought our economy was doing well because of the new leadership in the govt but i guess consumer good prices will just keep on going up.

Yes that is what i have been noticing i was reading the business section and it says there that our economy is doing good and inflation rate is lower and that stocks are even good! But why are comodities still soaring high? I just believe that there is tooo much capitalism here in our country, the government should see to it that prices can get lowered if raw materials are cheap..but business owners must have something to do with it..so sad.

Indeed it is. I enrolled my pre-school kid at UP and his fees are about Php24,000 inclusive of books and school supplies. It would have been cheaper if I were a UP employee which would only cost Php15,000. Geez, his tuition fee was already my tuition fee for the whole year when I was in college. But the fees are half of what most private schools would charge. Private schools here in the metro charge from Php25,000 to as high as Php100,000 a year. I hope we can save up for his college fund. I just can't imagine how much tuition fee would cost then. I don't even want to think about it.

You have not yet into invulnerability of things getting higher and higher, there is really nothing we can do about it but to keep on absorbing the burden of being a parent. Good if there is a return of investment immediately right after our children finish schooling but there are times that they still have to wait longer to earn for experiences required in looking for a job.

yes, indeed, prices have gone rocket high. Of course, there's the regular inflation but then sometimes all these things make me feel that we don't deserve this. Hi Jazel, i can totally understand your situation. With increasing demand, the prices are escalating too. Not only in stationeries, prices are up for everything in the market. Regarding books, i try to buy second hand books so that i can save half price on them. Children stuffs are as expensive as adults' these days. Last we went shopping for my niece, we got her a school bag worth $50... I searched whole shopping center but i couldn't find anything cheaper than that!

Its the way for business men to profit from their products because they believe people will make way to avail these things even if they luck budget..that is why we are aiming for salary wage increase!

That's really how Philippines is now..It was a shocked, day by day the prices of the said things are increasing.. Im living in visayas area, so the supplies which is being brought here from Manila are x2 of its price there..The notebooks her cost 20 pesos up.. I am a College now, and my course dont really need books and notebooks..All i need is a laptop and internet. haha not a good thing. Its not really required to have this laptop but for me to finish all my projects then its really a need to buy it. And not just to pick a notebook but i need a laptop because im after the specifications of it. Sometimes its really nice recalling the days that all i need is a ballpen and notebooks.:)

Me and my hubby came up to a quite tough decision concerning with our kids education.Since the kids school last attended will no longer operate. We actually decided to send our kids into a public school since everything are getting higher. We just thought it would be the best time to be more practical and consider many things so we can cope with all the changes and still able to have a descent life, without putting the kids rights and interest at stake. It's not that easy to talk with the kids that they are no longer going to the old school due to its closure, instead they are going to dealt with all anew environment. But its even getting difficult to tell them that we are sending them to a nonexclusive school.Wherein everything is very much different from the previous. Then I started giving them some ideas what its like in their new school, that they are going to have much more classmates, meaning lots of friends too.Maybe a little bit crowded but it would be fun meeting new playmates, isn't it! (as i was trying to convinced them that its really just fine and they will enjoy their new second home.) The next thing is the facilities,there...no air conditioned, and the kids said "wooooooooo mommy" and i told them its okay kiddos,I'm sure there's a proper ventilation for the students comftability....as i assure my kids!(whew!)You see,its really hard! Now the books,we cannot buy our own books for it is just being rendered when the classes starts and retrieved at the end of the school year. Most probably, you wil have to share one book at a time.Thats a one sad fact in all public school. And kids are not so happy to hear about it. And there's still so much to tell and prepare them for their new school and I'm still working on it.As i say..its not that easy.Any parents would want to gave their kids the best in all matters.Likewise,we would not want them to suffer the hard life as it became nowadays. At least,we are still responsible in giving their primary needs.I think thats all that matters to me now.

That must be tough on your family especially the kids but i guess as children, or kids, they do adapt to environment easily than us adults. Just pray that they will adapt easily and that they make friends right away so they wont feel left out and that they will still have fun amidst the change of environment.

Prices are getting outrageously high. It amazes me how people are getting by. I know that we have had to cut back on a lot recently to save money. It seems like every year things go up and up and up, and yet the paychecks remain the same. I really wonder how we are expected to survive and maintain paying our bills with the way things are going. I have recently started couponing as much as I can. I use to try and use a couple coupons here and there, but didn't really care whether I had one or not, but now when I go shopping I make sure I have my stack of coupons with me, and I never pay retail for any item. If it isn't on sale I don't get it. My children aren't in school yet, but I can only imagine what prices are going to be by then.

Yup, prices are going higher and higher. And I have a feeling that people don't mind. During the last president, a small increase in fuel would send thousands out on the streets in a rally. Now, fuel, and everything else are rising, and not so much rallies. It's frustrating. So, there's really no choice but to live on a strict budget.

You said it right. Prices are very high nowadays. Not only in school supplies, but also in foods and commodities! I had my grocery last Saturday. I just bought coffee, sugar, creamer, detergent, shampoo, half kilo of meat, 300 grams of beef, onion, garlic, tomato, some bread, and a little more stuff. Everything was placed in two medium plastic bags, and everything costs ONE THOUSAND PESOS! Geez, before a thousand pesos would give you like three or four large shopping bags of groceries. The zooming up of prices is a real pain in the butt. My less than six thousand pesos monthly salary is not enough to sustain a decent living!

So true, i also budget for our groceries every time i receive my salary, i would always set aside for groceries and it is usually from 1000 to 1500 and it usually last us for only a week..it would only consist of milk for the kids, diapers for the baby, basic stuff we need from canned goods, to soap, sugar, eggs..and my net pay is not nearly as yours!!
