Microsoft buys Skype...so what now?

Recently, Microsoft announced that they are buying Internet communications giant Skype for a hefty sum of 8.5 billion USD in cash, which would make this Microsoft's biggest acquisition in its 36-year history. In this Google and Apple-driven world, is this a desperate move by Microsoft to stay relevant? Or is this a decent move for once? Your thoughts?

It's hard to determine microsofts move on this, could they be trying to keep up, though I find that hard to believe, or could it be microsofts attempt at taking another foothold onto a well established service thus gaining more sales in users against apple. If microsoft are able to keep their salivating tongues in cheek, and keep the prices the same for skype. I'm sure that they will keep the customer base that skype already has gained. Otherwise it could potentially be the downfall of skype.

I suppose this is the way the cookie crumbles with companies like Microsoft! They are so big and potentially they have the means to takeover or buy a company in order to expand their global empire! I use skype myself and in terms of there being some changes I don't think that will happen to the everyday user of skype. I suppose it is a decent move on Microsoft's part, I don't think there is any kind of injustice there. I think this is the way of the world! As long as everything remains the same with skype I will be content. Andrew

I am surprised to know that Skype has made a big loss and therefore it has to be sold to Microsoft. Skype is a great software and I like to use it to make an international call. It saves a lot. I still have some money in my Skype account. I hope this sale won't have a big bad effect on Skype and it won't affect to a member like me. I love China

In my opinion some of the features will become paid or even the whole skype. It's not a desperate move, cause Skype is visited more than Facebook or Youtube for example...
