I wonder if there are charges for calls from Yahoo Messenger to other phone carriers. I am planning to use Yahoo Messenger to have a constant communication with my mother. She's using Globe prepaid. I don't have any problems with my siblings for we know how to use YM, but my mother does not.

i still never had a try to use my yahoo messenger to call phones and i think using of this will also charge you and even in Skype too because you need to subscribe first to their network before you will allow to use their service calling phones.

Ah yes, we can use YM to call on phones. But it comes with costs. Because if not, then a lot would use it instead of loading up their phones. But if you do want to call mom via internet, I would agree with the two preceding comments, use skype. It's of higher and greater quality. :) Have a happy life! God bless you!

I agree that between YM and Skype, the latter is more recommended. I suggest that you install Skype toolbar. It is free of charge and you can use it immediately.

hi wittynet!! Well Yahooo Messenger is good but its sound quality is not awesome. The is problem in its sound. Its charges is also too high as other phones have. Due to more poplution in yahoo it is not working good. Instead of yahoo messenger you use Skype. Its voice quality is awesome. And there is not more users in Skype so it is working good. Its call rate is low as compared to Yahoo Messenger. Yahoo's video quality is also not good while Skype's video quality is awesome. And Skype is easy to use and your mother will also use it. so Skype is the best.

jaspal941, thank you! I will also try Skype though I enjoy Yahoo Messenger a lot. It has a very good quality of sound considering that my sister is calling from Austria, and I am here in the Philippines. I do not know if there is any charge for I never cared to ask her. I always forget because we always have so many things to talk about. Oh! My mother doesn't know how to use Internet aside from the fact that we do not have Internet connection at home. I always bring my netbook at home when I visit my mother and father, but they never showed any interest on it. The don't like my netbook because it's very small. LOL
