Do You rely on facebook to remind you of your friends event and birthday

In the old day when there is no facebook, i usually write in my phone calendar the date of my friend birthday and event. With that, i can remember when will my friend birthday is gonna happened. But since facebook show up, and most of my friend show their birthday date. I start rely too much and facebook to remind me about birthday. Now i never put note to my calendar about birthday since facebook will remind me anyway. But the problem is, now people start hiding their birthday account, or ( even worse ) put the false birthday date. Although i found it is annoying but i think it should be a lesson for us to have remember or friend birthday and special date. Do you also rely on facebook to remind you of friend birthday? Or do you use other way? Also what do you think about this. Thanks for your reply...

Yes, now that there is FB, i rely totally on it to remember my friend's birthday. Without FB, i'll most probably will not be able to remember anybody's birthday. ALthough i know it's not nice of me to rely on FB, it has just become so convenient. Everyday when i log onto FB, on the top right hand corner, they will remind us whose birthday is it today. Seeing it, i'll then go to my friend's wall to post a happy birthday message. Yes, now, people start putting false birthday dates because they want to see who are their real friends, i think these people are pure irritating. However, i constantly remind myself to remember my friend's birthday, especially those close ones.

Yes, Facebook reminder is really are convenient. Just login into the facebook and we will know whose is having a birthday today. But i disagree about people whose put fake birthday actually try to know who his / her real friend or simply try to irritate other. Most of my friend whose put fake birthday date ( or simply hide it ) usually avoid having his / her data used by a scammer / hacker. With a birthday date, a mother name, and a few other personal information, people usually could able to retrieve some very important data. So to avoid that, they usually not shown their birthday date to public.

Hi. lordcaocao2025. I already know when someone Birthday is that I know of like that. For the people that I know, but don't know of, I am usually reminded of their upcoming Birthday when I log onto Facebook. Otherwise, I have their Birthday logged deep into my memory.

@cream97 : well i don't think saving than relying so many friend in just your memory is kinda hard. And some time we will slip, so i think you should prepare a new way to remind you. Maybe you could use an organizer like what rayann use. Anyway, if you confidence about your memory ( unlike me ), i think there is nothing to worry about. Thanks for your respond.

LOL, the old day i mean is just about seven year ago where i don't really active in the internet ( and i am sure at that time facebook is not yet show up ), but i know you only try to make a joke here :p . So since you don't really use facebook as your reminder, what did you actually use my friend, to remind you of your important friend special day.

I also record my friends' birthdays in my phone calendar. With Facebook and the birthday reminders, I rely on it a lot so I can greet my friends. I check it everyday to see who's having their birthdays. But as for my close friends, I still keep their birthdays alarmed on my phone calendar.

Oh i see, well i am agree with you. Facebook is good to remind us about our friend birthday, but, for closest friend and friend that we don't want to forget the birthday date, we should have other mean to remind us. And i think phone calendar is one of the good way to do that since it is usually always close to us and always got our attention. Especially if we use alarm for the date. Thanks for your reply to this discussion my friend.

Not really. There are times when some of your fruend would opt not to show to everybody at facebook that it is their special day. You would definitely miss greeting them when you rely only on facebook's reminder. It would be best if you could have the dates stored in your phone or your good old planner so that wven if they chose not to divulge to the facebook world that it's their birthday, you can still greet them and ask for a blowout. :p

Well yes, that is also what i think now. Facebook could hide some one birthday, and even if the facebook show it, the person might actually enter the wrong birth date. I know some people are actually doing it. Now i start compiling my friend birthday and register it in my calendar. It is not that much since i already have a few stored already since i keep my calendar data from the old phones ( which i use before i use facebook )

I don't rely on Facebook much to remind me of my friends' birthdays or any events. Although I log in to Facebook everyday, I do remember my close friends' birthdays and I save them on my blackberry. So technically, I rely on my blackberry to remind me of my friends' events and birthdays.

Well yes, i also do that. I saved my friend birthday date in calendar on my phones. Although it is require you to make a little effort of saving it, but it is worth it since it has 100 % accuracy. But i do still use facebook for birth day date of my not so close friend.

My close friends I remember their birthdays so there is no need to write it down or be reminded from facebook. The people who I am not close to I can see on facebook when its their birthday and wish them a happy birthday. Sometimes I do and sometimes I dont. I used to check everyday to see if it was anyones birthday but I dont bother anymore there was always a few birthdays each day and I'm not usually on facebook as much as I used to be.

Well thats good that you have them saved on your phone calender but its good that its listed on facebook so if something happens and your phone breaks you will have another place to look up friends birthdays. I'm just bored with facebook most the time and after my husband dying I just dont feel like sitting at the computer as much. I go to bed a lot earlier then I used to.

Oh, i am sorry about your husband. I Don't mean to bring up that kind of memories. Well actually i regularly back up my calendar data, so even if my phone break, i still have all the back up in my outlook express. I also often change cell phone, all my phone are synchronize with the outlook express calendar. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Well it is good to have a great memory like you. It seem i cannot remember most of my friend birthday ( i even can remember my family member birthday date ). But since i always save them in my phone calendar, i never forget to congratulate them when the time comes. Anyway, do you have new activities that make you not around facebook a lot like you used to be...? Thanks for sharing this with us friend.

I still write all that stuff down. I also have it on my yahoo calendar with reminders. I like facebook giving reminders on these dates and messages. Myspace does not do that. I wish it did.

Oh i actually not rely all my friends birthday with facebook, i use other method like calender in my phone and other stuff. Off course i remember a few of my closest friend, but still, to be safed, i still use my calendar to remind me of their birthday. If i remember than it is okay, but if i somehow forget it, the calendar will remind me.

Well facebook actually really remind us before the dates comes. But, cell pones now actually also remind you about the date before the time comes. Well technology really evolve now, they try to do their best by repairing what is lack and improving what already good.

Well it's nice to hear that. It might be manual, but it make you feel more close to them. It make you feel that people in that notebook is a special friend. I think you should visit facebook more often, since you have a lot of friend there. I think There will be no use of your huge number friend, if you never interact with them in the facebook. Thanks too for comment this my friend. Wish you the best of luck too. Happy my lotting Mr Professor

Honestly I do. I am so thankful for the feature because I have such a bad memory remembering my friends' birthdays. I am rarely on facebook but I received notifications from them about friends who will be having their birthdays in the coming days. Fortunately, my friends post their birthdays on facebook and I just greet them on their wall in facebook.
• Indonesia

Oh well, good for you. Yes, the notification system is really good, it is really helpful. Now it is really easy to congratulate people birthday, simply writing a wall message is enough. Anyway, thanks for replying to this very discussion. It is really fun to know people enjoy it.

Hi there lordcaocao2025!! To tell you the truth I am not really the type of person who remembers all the details.I tend to forget some small details sometimes and I really need someone and something to remind me.Well when it comes to birthdays I use to rely in facebook s event reminder. Well your right when you said that sometimes people are putting false information in their profile but then I guess there's no harm in trying to ask them if it's real or to greet them even if its not yet their birthday.
• Indonesia
16 May 11
Oh i see, well you just like me, who seem to not be able to remember many details. Anyway, how many of your friend actually put the wrong / false information about their birthday in facebook? Do you ever give a false happy birthday because of that? Anyway, thakns for your reply in this discussion.

Oh well, how many people that you actually remember when they birthday date are. Because for me, it is hard to keep track and i often forget. So i simply save it in my phone book and let the alarm inform me. It is will be regrettable if i miss my friend birthday because i too confidence with my memory. But well, the choice is yours. My memory is not that good, so i do that. But if you confidence about it, so it should work for you. Thanks for your reply.

At times, I greet them in facebook but those people that are closest to me, I try to remember their birthday. Though Facebook is great for those events, you'll never really know if their posting their real birthdays unless you know those people personally.

Hi first of all, thanks for making Your first post in my discussion :D. Welcome to mylot my friend. Yes i agree with you, in facebook, people can post any date they want and we cannot be sure if the date is real or false. So it is better to try to remember it or put another note in phone or other tools. Thanks for responding this discussion.

I write down all of that information on my calendar. I do not rely on Facebook for the reminders. I hardly use Facebook for anything really.

Oh i see, it is quite a wise choice to save everything in your calendar ( although it will cost you a little work, but i still think it is worth it ). But i think you could use facebook to remind of a birthday of your other ( or not so close ) friend. So if you don't use facebook for anything, what do you actually do when you log to facebook? Thanks for sharing it with us.

Oh i see, well good for you then. Do you have any backup plan to remembering date since not all people show their Birthday date in facebook. And some actually use a fake / false birthday date in facebook. Well i am glad facebook could help you remember thing like this. Thanks for replying this my friend, have a nice day.

I placed all my friends birthday and other celebrations of their lives in my phone calendar with alarm so that I can greet them right away. I don't rely on facebook because I only seldom login in my FB due to my busy schedule.
• Indonesia
14 May 11
Well yes, i think phone calendar is the most effective way to remind us of celebration, birthday and any other important date. The only thing it is lack that we actually need to save the data ourselves. While reminder of facebook is automatic. But i still prefer to combine it, like, important date for important friend i'll save it in phone calendar while not so important friend, i could use facebook for them.

Well kudos for facebook too. I am glad that many people actually helped by that function. Well do you have any friend that hide their birthday date or put a false / fake birthday date friend? Anyway, i just wonder... what actually the real meaning of kudos, i know i heard it a lot, but until now i don;t know what it's mean. Thanks for your reply.

Well good for you to have a lot of confidence about your memory. For me, i really have a bad memory, especially about birth day. Maybe because i always rely to much on tools to remember thing for a long time ago, that my brand realize that there is no use of saving all of those date in my memory since i will got remind by the calendar anyway. Thanks for sharing your thought with us my friend.

I not rely on anything not on facebook or anyother site or on any family members. Because some I also forget my anniversary date and my husband birthday date. My memory is very poor. Because I cant remember then no hope from others.
