Tonight I received an email as follows... Attn: Your email has won you £250,000.00 on the On-going Euro Millions promo. For claims,e-mail:csteve.euromill@live.com. Congrats:Steve Cook OMG, I wish it was true!!! However, with ALL the scams, I think I will pass!!! The sender is showing as "Steve Cook", but the address is of a brianna johnson of drake.edu. That is far from the euromill@live.com that I'm supposed to respond to!!! I deleted this bad boy...so PLEASE tell me it really was a scam & how would you have handled it???

Hon , to help your conscience feel better , why would whatsisname Mr Cook share or decide to give someone out of the blue £250,000.00?? He might as well start a Cook foundation or something with that money. Just saying..

-Big gulp- ... took a read at your reply , take a few seconds to laugh and smile and now I'm typing it. Just went over and commented on a discussion you've made somewhere. Seemingly the fuzzy little devil in you needs to get satisfied , it has converted to becoming an angel. You're Charlie's Angels at work , working to find out the "scheme" or "scam" that's about to happen once you get involved with the whole email. You did the right thing hon , by chucking the whole thing in the bin. Kudos to you.

Hey, heeyy, heeeyyyyy sexxxy!!!!! Just seeing your smiling face makes me feel better!!! You know I KNEW ALL the reasons why this was a scam, but I had that pesky little devil Mr Greed sitting on my shoulder whispering in my ear...they're NOT asking for a fee; so they might be legit & you really could use that money!!! After starting this discussion, I did some major research & learned that even though they weren't asking for my money initially, they did plan on taking it!!! They start out telling you that you've won this outrageously GREAT amount of money. When you contact them, they want to send you a check for an additional $3,500 to help cover your pending non-residence taxes. You receive the check & deposit into your checking account & are feel pretty dayum warm & fuzzy & hopefully trusting them by then. Then they contact you with the fee you need to pay & request you send them a check. Since they've been soooo honest, you confidently write the check. BAM...they cash "your" check & then you get a notice from your bank that "their" check is NO good & the bank is reclaiming the $3,500 you had deposited (& hopefully not spent yet). So, now you're out of the $3,500 PLUS whatever fee they got you to give them. They're sitting back having an extra dry Martini & laughing at how stupid you've been!!! When Mr Greed kept chipping away at me, I knew my friends on myLot would help to keep me grounded!!! I had already deleted the email; but was hesitating to clear the delete folder. Once my friends here cleared my brain, I cleared the delete folder & POOF...ALLLL GONE!!!!

I would have kept it for future reference and also forwarded it to the abuse department at drake.edu. It may be a student after easy money, bilking elderly and naive people by taking advantage of their naivety. Get that sorry excuse for a human being and throw them into prison!! Nobody will catch them unless you forward it to the drake.edu where it originated and enough people do that to justify an investigation. So that's what I do with emails like that when I can. I do not respond to anything that says I won money. Even when a survey place said I won a $100 Amex gift certificate, I called their office and spoke to the president before I believed it!

I did forward it to the Chief Information Officer at Drake & I received a reply that their email system had been hacked & they were aware of the problem, working on fixing it, & apologized for any problems this might have caused me. I was assured that the young lady named in the email was NOT the person who had sent it. I know they cannot be prepared for everything that happens on the internet; but I feel they should have their email security set up prior to this problem!!! I worked for a company that was of a decent size & even they had security in place to frustrate hackers!!! In doing further research, I learned that Drake has been having this problem since 2008. Think they been working very hard to stop it???

Personally I think we have all received these type of Emails from time to time. I have received more than I would like to count. Also have gotten them from time to time in my myLot messages, as well as in Facebook. The problem is there are still people falling for these scams all the time. I use gmail now for my Email so a lot of times now these type of Emails go to my Spam box first.

I probably receive a thousand scams a week, but this one was different!!! This was the first one I've received that was so sneaky!!! In commenting to responses here & doing more research, I learned that they draw you in by sending you checks first & then they ask you to write them a check. They time it so they get your check cashed just before their checks bounce!!! Deep down I knew it was a scam, but I was put off guard by their seemingly honest approach. I like to think I'm smart & I would have stopped myself from falling for it. Still I admit I was tempted & I knew getting wrapped up in a discussion here would take away those thoughts!!! My spam box is FULL of emails I need to see, yet one like this made it through. I've blocked EVERYTHING from that email addy from coming through & had completely deleted it so I wouldn't be tempted into going back to it!!! I know scammers depend on ONLY 1% of a return to get what they want & I am really good at hitting the delete button 99.9% of the time. Now that I've learned about this scam, it will be deleted faster next time!!!!

I enjoy this type of email. I have some saved reply for the guys. I just copied and sent the reply to them. In reply I informed them that he has been selected as the ........ and my company will pay him a lot. It's fun to me.

nikharmon...WELCOME TO MYLOT!!! sona...Since they didn't ask for any money & ONLY wanted me to respond to an email addy, I can ONLY assume (dangerous...I know) that they are collecting email addresses to be sold to the highest bidder, so I can be scammed, hacked, or worse later on!!! Responding with a job offer is FUNNY!!! However, by responding, you are telling them that your email addy is an active address going to a "live" person which puts you near the top of the list!!!

There are so many scams that I think I would have deleted it too. I know everyone has been especially warned against those that ask for money to get the prize. It's really sad because people do get excited to hear they won only to realize they were scammed. I don' t know anything about this one, but don't they contact people more than once if it is legit?? I don't know for sure, but seems to me they would. I don't think you are stupid at all:)

Oh I deleted right away!!! However, I must admit to struggling with clearing the deleted folder as that little devil Mr Greed kept taunting me with "they're NOT asking for any fees; so it might be legit." YES, I knew it was a scam, but it WAS tempting!!! When all was said & done, I had cleared the deleted folder & I had learned a NEW lesson about scammers!!! I receive a lot of scam emails daily; but most are obvious. This one was a bit more subtle than I'm used to & I feel that if could tempt me like it did...how many others went down for the count???

Are you saying this is the first time you've received an email like this? I get probably 8-10 a day, usually in my junk folder. They also include those people from foreign countries who want to give me their money to hold onto, or money I supposedly inherited. I don't know what people expect to gain by sending this trash out, except probably your banking information. So many people out there with nothing better to do than cause trouble on the internet. I wish they'd stop. It's annoying.

Well, every time i get rid of those messages, i wish the same. I say'' ohhhh i wish it was true, sadly it isn't *deletes*''. Seriously, they have such high hopes that someday, somewhere, some fool would join a mailing site, would open this mail and fall in our trap. Ofcourse, it was a scam, if mailing sites were really doing this, they would spread this news first. No one would want their good efforts to go into scam list, when it would be a prize you'll know! for now just delete like you always do. :) :P

You'd be surprised at how many 'stupid' people are really out there that would respond to this kind of email. For the scammers, it is just a matter of numbers. For a hundred emails that they would send, they might get one or two responses back. And for them, this is already worth their effort. But honestly, I don't mind £250,000.00, so if this turns out to be true, send me the link!

I usually just ignore scams, although emails like that I always reply in a way that would violate hundreds of MyLot's policies. Let's just say, they don't email again very soon, and most of the time end up apologising.

WELCOME TO MYLOT!!! I do ignore most scams. This one came with a name very close to a "real life" friend & the subject line simply said "Contact Me". So I just had to look!!! I had already hit delete when that little devil Mr Greed jumped up on my shoulder tempting me to check it out. I knew my friends here on myLot would bring me back to my senses...hence the discussion!!! I've gotten a LOT of good ideas here & acted on most of them. I've contacted Drake, I've deleted the email & MOST IMPORTANT, I did NOT act on my impulse!!!!

I rarely have it on my email, but I often get that statement from SMS. Naturally, I don't believe such things, but then, I get the idea. What happened if I fool these SMS senders? So then, I build my plan. At first, I give a phone to the SMS Senders, saying if I really win much money from them, acting like a fool one. Here's what we're talking about : Me : Hello Sir, I recently get the SMS that I already won money, is it true? Sender : Good afternoon, sir. Yes, it is. You already won Rp 10.000.000, but to get the money, you have to send some money to us at first as some tax. Me : Really! How much I must send? Sender : Sir, how much your money in bank now? Me : Rp 15.000.000, sir. Sender : OK. Now, follow my instruction to get your money transferred into your account. Put the code that I will tell to you in your transfer transaction. The code is 14785365. (I think he tell that code because I say before that my money is Rp 15.000.000. So that means, I transfer to him Rp 14.785.365. He says the code in order to make it official so that we believe in him.) Me : It's done, sir. When I get my money, sir? Sender : Your money will be transferred into your account in 2 days period. Now, I will process it. (There's a sound of keyboard I hear, so I guess he's checking his balance in Internet.) Sir, are you really have done your process? It seems you enter the wrong code. Me : Really! Well, I know your tricks anyway. You won't get my money, even a little. Sender : Sir, don't make such jokes. This is serious! Me : I'm serious too. I'm calling cops now. The Sender then close the phone, realizing that he's already failed while I'm laughing. Well, that's my story back then.

I normally delete WITHOUT reading also!!! In this case the name was close to a very good friend of mine & the subject line just read "Contact Me". I only looked because I thought I had a friend with a problem. I never actually opened the email...instead opting to look via the "preview" option. When I realized it wasn't my friend, I automatically hit delete. Then my greedy little devil popped up & said "it might be real as they didn't ask for any money!!! We argued for several minutes & I started this discussion to draw my attention away from Mr Greedy!!!

Well, we always get messages like this. But the thing that always makes me sure it's a scam is I ask myself, "Did I join a promo/contest like this?" The answer is no so how could I possibly win. And I think you too don't remember joining anything like that so you know it's not real. However, it would really be nice and great and fun if those were true....

GREAT point!!! If you noticed, it didn't say I had won...it said my email address had won. I was wondering how my email address had paid for the entry??? I receive a ton of these every week, but most are a bit more obvious than this one!!! My common sense was saying "it's a scam"; however, my greedy side was saying "boy we sure could use a half million dollars"!!! When I know my impulsive side is trying to take over, I turn to my friends on myLot & start a discussion. Their responses ALWAYS make me think more rational & I'm able to psychoanalyze myself!!!!

i wonder if you could have had some fun with them and replied asking if it could be donated to the blind orphanage that you work for. tell them you need to be careful of scams as the orphanage has a large sum of money in it's account. then ask them what details they need to transfer it? wonder what you would get back in return?

They would have responded...send us your bank account info so we can collect the processing fee & then send us the orphanage bank account info so we can give them your winnings. Then they would have cleaned out my checking account & tried to clean out the orphanage account!!! These bastids have absolutely NO conscience!!!!

But, my email address had WON it!!! My next question was HOW did my email address pay for the ticket??? I receive a jillion of these kind of emails every week, but this one was different in that it did NOT ask for any money up front!!! I don't know if they are just gathering up valid email addresses to sell or if the give us $49.95 in processing fees & your bank account info so we can pay you was going to be the next part of the scam. Either way, they were deleted & I decided NOT to become stupid!!!!
