Three months back, I got a new puppy breed of welch corgi. A very cute one, but it had problem in moving with any one here. It hides behind me sometimes and looks at others with surprise. He was not mingling even with other one, pom 2 years old. In other words bigger one is really arrogant will push this little one out. I was trying to find a good company for him to stay fine on my busy hours. Finally our neighbour got a new female breed yesterday. I see now both of them roaming the home together and sharing their food. Its so lovely and we are glad he dont feel lonely any more.

Hello Besthope, It is good that your corgi finally found a puppy to be his friend. I suggest you to encourage him to meet and play with other dogs, too, because if you let him decide what to do he may become an unsocialized adult dog who barks at any strange dog. Don't let him hide behind you, encourage him to socialize with other dogs but don't force him to. Get down at his level (on your knees maybe) and try to pet and play with him and the other new dog until he realizes there is no danger coming from the other dog.

Hi Inu1711, You are right Though its nice he started to move with another dog, still he needs to encouraged to other people and dogs as well. He is still not moving with any one even to my kids at home. He just runs and hide himself. I have decided to allocate time for him to play and take a small walk outside. Thats nice tips Inu for this little corgi

You are right, this is a good start but you should still encourage him to do more. You said that you decided to take him for a walk outside. You should also take the 2 years Pom with you, for the little one to learn that other dog company can bring new and interesting experiences. He looks so little and sweet! I suppose that he was separated from his mother and siblings when he was too young and this could be the reason he doesn't know how to behave around other dogs. How old was he when you brought him home?

Oh Inu, he is so sweet and cute in his looks, he was a month old when i got him home. Probably I feel the same, would he be missing his mom? And i sometimes felt at the begining, he doesnot like the home and atmosphere. My other Pom, he was 3 months old when i got him home. He is very possessive and never like us cuddling other dogs. And when i took this elder one for walk, he never walks, rather he will round me about. Main problem with him is he never allow any strangers even neighbours inside. I thought the new one will also help him to socialize. But sure I am someway gonna take both of them and give them practice. I see the cute dog avatar, is he/she your pet?

Animals need time to get familiarised with their surroundings. I had a bull terrier who as you know is known for being ferocious but he and our cat got along so well. In fact our cat always wanted the dog with her whenever it was time for her to litter. He would even share or even give up his bed for her and her brood.

Thats so lovely! Nice they share their meal together. Animals teach us many when human beings forget the greatness of sharing!

Aww. That is so sweet. Our dog finally got a playmate the other day too. He is not allowed out of our yard but the neighbor brought her dog over to play with him.

Hi Step, Thats nice to hear as well. What dog breed is that? Is that one on your avatar? You would have seen, when the little ones find someone for their play they go more joyful and cute. I love to watch them playing so happily!

That is so sweet! At least they have each other now....someone to play with and eat with...just like us. They need friends.

Hi Jillhill, Yeah you are right. He is looking for someone who matches him well. So the girl pup is same as him very quiet and scares a lot. Its so cute to see both walking and playing together.

Hi besthope How cute that your corgi now has a friend to play with. I agree with inu above that you will gradually train/show your puppy to interact with others. Like children they need to learn how to interact with other puppies/dogs so that they are not afraid and or become defensive later. It is okay to often pet, hug and share love but do allow your corgi to learn how to freely socialize with others so that they get use to other people and other pets. Enjoy your corgi.

Hi HWG , Well said HWG, I missed these to follow with my Pom who is 2 years now. He never allows any one and highly defensive. So I am cautious a bit that I should train this little sweet to socialize well with others. I am planning for a small walk with him morning and evening, so he may feel free and understand people and pets around him This little master is same as my kids and love to spend time for him. Nice tips HWG

yes. Pets - they like some, they do not like some. When they get their likables they move closely. Is it not similar to human beings. We also move closely with a few and not with many others

Hi Ravisivan, you worded it well. Pets are same like human in selecting the right ones for them. And my elder Pom still not found anyone likable, so i got this new one which may help him. But its so cute to keep watching them
