Would you let your friend smoke in your car?

If you are a NON-SMOKER, would you let your friend smoke in your car? A few years ago, one of my good friends (now, not so close friend) asked if she could smoke in my car while driving and that she'd stick the cigarette out the window. But, why in the world would you ask someone who is a NON-SMOKER and hates cigarettes to let them smoke in their car? I was shocked she had the guts to ask and of course, since I was driving and it was my car, NO. If she was driving me and it was her car, sure why not. Not like I can stop it. Do you feel wrong to reject a friend if they ask something like smoking in your car? Or would be nice to let them?

I'm a non-smoker too, so no, I would not let them smoke in my car. Actually, I wouldn't let anyone smoke in there...same with my house. And no, I wouldn't feel wrong about it. They should know better than to ask, but if they do, they shouldn't feel offended as they should be willing to respect my wishes. After all, I wouldn't want to breathe their smoke, or worse yet have my kids breathe it! Speaking of kids, it's illegal here in California for anyone to smoke in their car if there are minors (kids under 18) in there with them. http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/health&id=5869495 This actually went into effect a few years ago, but I thought I'd share the link on here anyway. Happy mylotting!

I'm a smoker and I can't even imagine asking someone who did not smoke if I could smoke in their car! Actually I wouldn't ask even if they were a smoker. Lots of smokers will not smoke in their cars or homes. If the driver lit up...there would be the answer rather than to put him on the spot by asking. As for smoking in cars with kids....California was smart to pass that law! We don't have it a law here where I am and you wouldn't think it would have to be. It's just common sense but obviously many lack it. I see it all the time...poor little babies with the adults puffing away and filling the car with smoke.

hubby and i are non-smokers, so when friends asks for a ride we tell them upfront NO SMOKING inside our car. If they cannot bear not to well they can take their smoking somewhere else. It's not that we are being rude, we have to protect our health as well and since they are asking us a favor then they should also respect our wishes. I guess it's non-negotiable for us when it comes to smoking inside the car.

A smoking friend should have enough respect for a nonsmoking friend than to offer to smoke in their car. it would have to be an absolute emergency for me to allow a freind to smoke in my car. Smokers should have enough willpower to smoke in their own environment. t

No one even me smokes in my car and if I were asked I would say they can't. I have leather seats and the last thing I want is for small holes to ruin them, not to mention the smell in the car would not be pleasant at all. I do not feel bad about rejecting them to do so in my car because it is my car and I would hope they would respect that and no I do not find it nice to let them do it in my car. lol

Gosh I HATE smokers.A lot of them just think it's cool even they have to endure the terrible smell.Go smoke somewhere else where you can't damage other people's health thank you very much.Seriously if a friend smoke in my car(if I HAD a friend who smokes),I would tell he/she to get the hell out of my car.

Hi infatuatedbby. I wouldn't even allow my family members to smoke much less my friend. I've seen what smoking does to people, the consequences can be severe. Even though smokers lead a normal life just like everyone else but without them they are like a souless human being. The worst is smokers smoking in front of non-smokers like us making us what you would call passive smokers or second hand smokers in more risk of getting all those "consequences" than them so even if I might offend them but I would definitely reject their request

That's more of a rudeness thing i think. Depending on your friendship and your feelings towards smoking, i think that if you are even posting this then the answer is yes this is rude. If you sometimes are in the car with her driving then i can understand why she might ask. Did you let her know you were offended? I wouldn't worry to much about it. Its your car your rules, why should it stink like smoke when you dont like the smell.

I would definitely object to smoking. In the summer we have to put on the A.C.If someone smokes in an AC car life becomes hell for the driver and the others.I can definitely understand your anger as the person was doing an act which you abhor while making use of your generosity.

I used to smoke myself but then eventually quit. If a smoker friends asks permission to smoke inside my car, i will definitely not allow it. My friend should also understands and respects my policy because it's my car.

Not if the car is new or is special to me. I have been through that years ago. I once threw a friend out of the car just for asking. I was a teenager at the time. Now, I don't really care much. My car is old and I am older. But I know if I had a new car, I would not want anyone smoking in it.

what is called friend is that he can accept both the good and bad words you tell him,he always understands you and never bear a grudge of you.so if i don't like my friend smoke in my car,i will speak to him directly,i think he can understand me.

I am a non smoker and i allow my friend to smoke in my car if he wants to smoke when we are in a journey.. But he know that i hate smoking.. So he don't do it.. In case if he feels depressed and he feels that he wants to smoke to get relax.. I myself ask him to smoke because he don't ask me permission... At the same time i know about him... So i'll take this in sportive manner.. Why to say No to our friend for smoking inside of our car...

Hi Infatuatedbby, I would not let anyone does that and I don't think there are many people would make that request to her/his friends no matter how close the friendship is. I can't stand the smoke even in public places. It's not the matter of politeness but our own and surrounding people's health. Say no to smoking!

Same here! Well, yeah I was surprised when she asked me. This was a while ago but I'm curious to what people would say if they were in my position.
