there was a time when we had a mini library in our classroom for the Literature month and I brought my favorite books there..a teacher borrowed my "Around the World in 80 days" and another one borrowed "BFG(Big friendly giant)" and also the collection of funny stories. But I never got anything back.. they said they returned it but I didn't receive it.. Now I am never going to let anyone borrow my books...

Aww that's too bad. Sorry about that. I think it's better to just keep your favorite books to yourself or just lend it to someone who you can truly trust. I also have books and I don't lend it to people if I'm not comfortable about the idea of lending. If someone's reading my books, I'm also very strict with the way they handle it. I don't want them opening my books too much as it causes creases. Perhaps there are still available copies of the books you lost. Just go and buy it and keep it to yourself now.

Well, those were good books so I wanted to share it to my classmates. They weren't even supposed to be taken home, I just can't say no to my friends... Those books were just given by my aunt though- she bought it from far away.

I didn't tell her about it. She hasn't given me books, that was the only time she did.. I did learn my lesson now, so I'll take better care of my remaining books.

Ouch, I hope she doesn't feel bad when she learns about it as well. Have you checked with them one last time? I hope the books show up then if it were indeed returned to you. Here's wishing that you'll receive new copies of those books again as gifts .

When I lend a book, I prefer to think that it is lost : sad to say, but generally my friends forget to bring them back, and I prefer to forget to ask them -- friends are friends --. I am also a Jules Verne fan, and you can download a pdf version easily of "Around the World in 80 days" online. I know it is not the same feeling to read on a screen than on a true paper page, but the words are the same...

I don't really want to read an ebook version of that hard copy, it even had beautiful paintings of what was happening in the story- it was such a great loss. Now, i am never going to lend my books to anyone..

Wow.. you've got a lot of books, mine don't reach a thousand though, just 2 or 3 hundred. Good thing we don't have mini-libraries in college now- so I won't have to bring my books again.

That is really sad. People should learn to return things when they borrow them.. They should be responsible enough, and take responsibility if ever they did lose the book. But at least you learn from your mistakes.

Yes, i felt definitely sad just thinking about it. I agree, people should always take care of things they borrow- like it's their own and return it as it is...Yeah, i did learn something from this.

Aw. I'm sorry to hear that! I remember I let my friend borrow a book from me once and it came back with jelly on the last page with the two pages stuck together! I was so upset. I treat books quite well and if I ever damaged or lost someone's book that they lent me, I'd give them them the money to buy a new one or buy it myself for them.

I have experienced that too, one of my friends spilled something in the book- good thing the stain wasn't so obvious. But i stil felt bad, becasue when i borrow something, I really take care of it and return it immediately.

If I'm honest, I think you should get an Amazon Kindle - you can store 3000 books all on one slim device. That way, you'd never WANT to lend any books to anyone. No, but really, that's kind of sad, you can download the eBooks of those books from the internet for FREE!!

YEah, there are lots of ebooks that can be easily downloaded, I don't like them though, even though though they are really portable, my eyes will hurt if i read them. Where do you download your ebooks?

I can't really remind them- I don't even see those people anymore. I hope , that wherever my books may be, someone is also treasuring them and reading them. They are really nice books and quite expensive too.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I don't lend things that I don't want to be not returned to me. The other lotter is right. When you lend something, be prepared for when it won't get returned.

i didn't really expect it not to be returned since we had many mini-library events and I always had all my books back- it was just this time that it wasn't returned to me. Now i learned my lesson though.

"Oh, no, I'm sure I put it back on the shelf when I'd finished with it, have you looked properly?" Never lend anything that you're not prepared to lose is my advice :)
