Hi all! We all come to mylot to learn something to discuss something and to enjoy ourselves here. Every mylotter has different avatar and log in name and avatar and log in names are probably for easier identification of a particular mylotter However, during the course of posting our responses/comments/sub-comments/counter-comments, is it fair to pull up any mylotter’s legs or to make sarcastic or derisive remarks about her/his peculiar or unusual avatar picture or log in name? What is your take on it? The discussion is general in nature and my humble request is that it may not be taken otherwise by any of the mylotter here.

Hi dpk, I wonder what gain do one earned from being critical of others choice of username or avatar. It only show the immaturity of the individual concerned to criticize others without considering the fact that mylot is a very public place and the world is reading the contents of our write up here. In the spirit of mylotting, we should at least respect each other and to avoid using words that might hurt others.

Hi Zandi! I fully agree with your views. I also wonder what one gets when criticizing a user's log in name or her/his avatar. When some of the lotters cross the limit in the name of having some fun, it spoils the atmosphere. Resecting others and treating others with dignity and maturity must be maintained, I also believe so. Thanks for sharing and dropping in.

No it isn't right and it shouldn't happen, Ever! If a person has to stoop to demeaning a person's avatar means they don't have a strong enough argument ! They are so immature that when they can't "win" a discussion , they resort to name calling like they did in kindergarden! We All have differ views and here at my Lot is where we can share them but I fear that there are many who either don't have the insight to follow along Or Think that they van bully people here . Guess what they are Wrong. all the Bullsh!t they do bounces right back to them. People here can recognize Trolls and With each demeaning remark They dig their own grave. Each - adds up. And if they Do go too far My Lot Admin gets involved. So bullies can have their fun but they don't last here.

And they should be told. many will stop. The others that won't Should be called on it. Not stopping makes them a bully and My Lot isn't a place for bullies.

There are some who do not know how to treat others nicely. They thinks whatever they are writing is funny and laughable stuff and sometimes they are wrong in their assessment.

mys- Yeah, you are right one need to maintain the balance and need not expose his/her legs, else there are many waiting to pull up legs.

It means that it is up to you to make sure you are well balanced and have no legs exposed and available for pulling

I personally think that unless you have something positive to say don't say it on here. I am getting very tired of hearing of the moles and people that think their ideas and their points of view are the only ones. Sarcastic and deristive remarks are not needed here. No it isn't fair nor is it very mature.

Personally, this is something I have never got, and related with. So what you do not always agree with someone's discussion they started, or their points of view. Why would you post something back so negative and hurt their feelings like this? Instead why not just move on, and not pay attention to it. We are here to learn from each other, and help encourage one another. Not tear down people and hurt them and give them reasons to leave.

I would not make fun of anyone for their avataar or log in names. But I do not like the idea of some people putting pictures that are not good in social networking sites. Most of us log in from the office and sometimes the avataar pictures are so embarassing that very often I have had to delete the person from my friend list. This applies not only to mylot but sometimes facebook and other networking sites too.

Yes.Mayka has avalid point there. If tehre is some undesirable picture that causes embarrassment to be viewed in public the practice should be curtailed.

It is really sane on your part Mayka that you do not make fun of others because of their avatar or log in name. I fully agree with you that unacceptable pictures which are used as avatars really causes embarrassment. Thanks for dropping in.

The avatar is everyone's prerogative. I really do not care what avatar they put in it. I actually like looking at everyone's avatar, peculiar, tabboo or not. It is what they like, i do not have anything on it lol. It is what makes one mylotter unique.

No not examine, that is too deep for a word to use. I just look at it of course, because some do catch attention ( like that one of Misterwit, vonmac, bunnybon..to name few mylotters who have avatars that do make me really take a look at it..) but not exactly examine it. i just "look".. and no i do not make sarcastic comment because there is no need to make sarcastic comment

Oh my...I saw that there was talk about pulling up someones legs and thought I might have to see what was going on in here. I think if I knew them very well..it wouldn't bother me if they poked fun at me or pulled my legs up...otherwise I might think they were being mean to me. I have a pretty good sense of humor though so it might not bother me at all. I am usually cautious with people who I haven't had a chance to get to know a little. I certainly wouldn't want them to take my fun wrong. There are some people that like to keep their legs firmly on the ground.

So far no one has pulled my leg with regard to my avatars. My avatars are all connected with my garden pictures and in fact you just appreciated it recently. But dpk you asked for it as I now see a whole lot of your friends are in fact pulling your leg. I hope that babe of yours is not hurt in any way!

Why do people do that? I don't even know what does it mean by pulling someone's legs... is it related to teasing? Flirting? Seducing? Tickling? Hugging? Slapping? Kissing?

To Pull one's leg is an idom, it means - to tease intentionally. It does not mean seducing or flirting etc. Hope it is clear now? :-)

Hi dpk No one should be pulling on babies leg, lol No one should be making any form of sarcastic rude comment and or response ever! We are all adults on myLot and expected to behave as such. We are told to be at our best while a member here, so why on earth anyone chooses to do so here on myLot and or any online site is beyond me. We certainly do not go out of our way offline to be intentionally rude by nature, so not sure why anyone prefers and or chooses to do so here. It is sad too, when I read some of them and think to my self, oh my! Is this how the person is offline? I would hope not as the person could actually be hurt. I am very grateful for myLot admins here though, as they do not tolerate such but wanted to add that as adults can't we simply learn to agree to disagree without making misery or too much fuss.

I would not like it if someone makes derisive remarks [it may be in jest but nevertheless]about my avataar or unusualname. In real life itself , we must learn to tread carefully with people and be sensitive to their responses while getting into affectionate teasing. While some people think such remarks are very funny there are others who do not like it. Anyday , I feel it is safer to be straight and say what we have to in a direct manner instead of making teasing remarks.[this elaboration is of course beside the point ]. As far as the question goes, it is not necessary ..And if someone does not like it they should nip it in the bud.If the other person still does not listen it is unfair. If the eprson persists in doing it despite protests it is totally unfair.

Hi Kala! What you have said is absolutely right and it does make sense. However, there are some incorrigble souls, who do not care about the sentiments of others and we just cannot reform them. :-(

dpk you mean pull ones leg as in joking with someone you do not even know yet? I guess it depends on the kiind of a joke.I really feel its best to be pleasant and kindly until one gets to know the various people here. some types of jokes can misfire badlhy and thats not really necessary in an open forum like this. My credo is gently does it until I know the person better.

Hi Hatley! No even if we know someone we should be well within our limit. If we do not know a person at all, then it would be improper to tease him/her. Thanks for dropping in.
