I don't believe this at all.

Last summer we planted lettuce in a pot and never emptied the pot in the fall. So I was surprised today to find that the lettuce was growing again in the pot. It's unusual for veggies to grow again, but these ones are going again. And now I have 2 dozen tomato plants growing thanks to the neighbor giving us 16 of them yesterday. Unbelievable that the lettuce is growing again. I only discovered this when I pulled some weeds out of the pot.

Wow must be some of the seeds were still in the pot that did not grow last year. Not sure if that is possible but the only thing I can think of that occurred. Either way it think it is great as now you do not have to replant lettuce. lol

That was the only seed I hadn't planted, so this is a good thing. I'm glad either way, at least there is some growing.

Did your lettuce bolt and go to seed last year? I would expect that. I have also seen it re grow from the root, if cut off. I just would have expected it to have frozen during your winter.

Honestly I have no idea. Wish I knew how it managed to come back. But it's still a good thing.

Wow, that's great!!! I've always wondered about plants that you have to replant every year. How do they recreate in the wild when there's no one there to replant?

That's something I don't understand myself. We have pansies that came back this year and they're annuals as well. Too bad I dumped the other pots, who knows, maybe I would have had other plants growing later.

Seeds have a wonderful way of coming to life when we are watering something else nearby. It happened to arugule that seeded in my raised beds. Now I can add some arugule to each of my lettuce salad.
