Do You REALLY Need To Give Out Your Life Story In A Shop?

Hi Guys! I'm now back from Mum's and (on the whole) we enjoyed ourselves, especially when the sun shone. Now, on Friday I had to pick up two pairs of leggings from M&S that was an order I had placed on the internet. Picking up the items from the store meant no postage so off to Blackpool's M&S store we went. Upon reaching the Order Collection Point I was pleased to discover only one couple plus another lady in front of me, therefore I assumed I wouldn't be there long. WRONG! For starters, the woman on the counter just didn't want to be there, I could tell (middle-aged). She had two speeds, SLOW and STOP. Apparently, M&S staff are trained to be slow but this woman took it to a whole new level of slowness. If you can picture a Sloth you get the idea. The couple at the front were ordering a new pair of shoes by the looks of it as the ones the guy had weren't wide enough. Should be two minutes of a job but it took at least 10..changing the original order seemed to be the task that took the longest amount of time, plus she kept saying the "computer is slow." "Rather like you love" I muttered under my breath! Eventually, another member of staff turned up and saw to the lady directly in front of me. "This shouldn't take long." I thought. WRONG AGAIN! Talk about giving out your life story (and that was just the member of staff)! Honestly, I don't really know what was happening as a pillar was obscuring my view but there was far too much conversation going on and not enough..er, ordering. The guy ordering his shoes finally turned round and said, "sorry" which I thought was really sweet but the member of staff should've done the same..but she didn't. Not a word in fact. Anyway, it came for her to check my details after the couple had gone and she came out with the dreaded words "yours isn't the address I have here on the computer" giving me a quizzical look. I nearly lost it at that point and thought about what John would've said, to calm myself down. I took a deep breath and told her that I have two accounts with two email addresses. One is for Mum and the other is mine. Obviously, I had used my Mum's account (as I can never remember which email address belongs to which account) but was able to pay with my debit card in the usual way. Anyone would think I was a criminal or something. Anyway, I told her Mum's address and the member of staff was satisfied, therefore handed over the leggings. I rather wish she hadn't as, I'm not happy with them! I've worn one pair already but they're a bit, er, baggy. No shape to them at all. I shall see what they are like once washed but they won't shrink as they're man-made. What a bloody carry on!

hi Janey reading this made me remember the day I got an appointment to see social Security to get my name changed. I had made the error of writing Patsie Hatley on some things and Mrs Hatley on o thers and also Patsie M Hatley. well I could understand that I needed to pick one but the woman who waited on me kept in slow motion. She kept asking are you su re there are not other Patsie Hatleys then asked why do you use Mrs. Hatley at times? You divorced? I told her no,maam I was widowed and she knew that as she had transferred my husbands social security to me. All the time she sounded more like a police officer than just a customer service rep. then she scowled and told me on legal documents you must use just one name. Do you understand? I had understood that from the start. why was she not giving me the paper to sign the name I would use and let me get out of there? I was getting a head ache. Finally she said I did no fine any other Patsie Hatleys so now write down the way you want to use your name legally So I put Patsie M. Hatley and after two hours of what should have takne ten minutes I was done with her, my son was with me and he scolded me for losing my cool with her. but the woman was arrogant and acting like I was some sort of really evil criminal. By the time i got bback home I was starved so my son took me out to dinner and again told me to not let those people upset me like that. I swear she treated me like some one on the most wanted list of top wanted women criminals.

Janey, maybe the thought was that if she shouted loudly enough she would scare your shoes right off your feet. See, there they go--pop!!!pop!!!!

She was worried about the address as you might be a terrorist engaged in crimes against the state that involve baggy leggings.I have family members that will share way too many personal details in a store. I think you are like me, and want the business people to just do their business. I now know that the cashier at the dairy store (who admittedly does not like working there) does not like her beautician to razor cut her hair. I wish she had told the beautician, instead of telling me.

Hahaha! Love it my friend! Honestly, I was losing the will to live in M&S. I DO love the store BUT the staff are so painfully slow I could write a book whilst in the queue, it takes so long to be seen. I wasn't happy about there not being an apology either. I always get this in the Food Hall queue..and the staff don't really keep me waiting in there lol.

Im sorry you had such an unpleasant ordeal for leggings that you're not even happy with. Geez!! Ive noticed lately that good service is a thing of the past obviously and you'd swear the people working dont really want to or the pay is so sh*tty that is the reason why they are working s l o w l y. Ive noticed that I get better service when ordering online and having it all sent by mail or UPS. I can contact them very quickly via email and always get a reply the same day or the day after. I didnt have the patience to put up with such laziness but since Ive been working home and have all the time in the world when I go shopping, I always bring a book with me and start reading while waiting inline....that drives them crazy though haha!. Try it next time!!

I could've read "War and Peace" by the time I was seen..well, maybe not but you get the idea! I've noticed everywhere seems to have fewer staff. When times are good there are too many of them. However, I much prefer that scenario to having to wait ages in every shop I go into now. Don't get me started on the Post Office!!

You just have to love these types of shopping trips. I recall many times gasping for air when the customers in front of me explain to the cashier about their horrid relationships with their neighbors. OMG, like I and the rest of the people in line really need to hear. I do hope they shrink a bit to fit because loose leggings are not exactly comfy.

MC Hammer - MC Hammer - You Can't Touch This!
My leggings are the same length as my older ones, same width, but when it comes to the material, well, that's a different matter. What's that black singer called with the notoriously baggy trousers? Bit of an extreme example but there yer go lol. No wonder there was an offer on them!!! MC HAMMER!

The guy had the nerve to say"sorry"!And again, who is the another member of staff? manager? Why could he have a chat with customer at work?It reminds me of the proverb that you have praised highly:Treat others as you would like to be treated.

The other member of staff turned up to help the other person but both of them weren't much good lol. It was the customer who turned round to me to say sorry. He probably felt a bit embarrassed at how much time the order was taking which prompted the action. Like I said, it should've been the staff member who did this, but she chose to stay quiet. Why, I don't know as M&S encourages apologies as I hear them all the time!
