oh, it is not new anymore. We had condemned about those third world countries full of corruption. We had condemned about China, everything is about relationship, pulling - string, etc..... Surprisingly, I read a news report from local newspaper, health inspectors to restaurants also under investigation, since they taking bribery from those restaurateurs to give them permit without serious inspect the premises environments. This taking seriously within our local government in the states. So far, only 2 persons were indicted, but there are should be involved as we believed. Not long ago, a local court appointed attorney also audited for falsify his own invoice and overcharge the court. Such behavior should not be tolerated. So, what is happening around us nowadays. Not only the recession not in the progress of recovery, even our trusted government appointed staffs taking advantage of us.

Hi Kingparker, Its true corruption is still not rooted out. All seems to be good on the external, but inside there are many such corruptions taking place. Actions and laws are implemented but still unless those people realize the crime, these crime acts cannot be rooted away.

This is what happens when you have too much government regulation. The regulators have to find something wrong or people will feel they are not doing their jobs. The problem is that the regulations are developed so that people can not comply and there fore the regulators become over worked and more are needed thus their power grows and more rules are created and enforced. Look at the driving laws, every state has inattentive driving laws. But the police will not charge a person unless they are involved in an accident. Now we have laws against using a cell phone in the car, no texting laws while driving and limits on the number of people that can ride with a new driver. All the laws are trying to acheive the same thing pay attention when driving. Because texting is becoming such a problem we need more police to stop it. More regulators to enforce the rules.

I don't think there will be an end to corruption. This is just the nature of human to be greedy. Most of us don't cross the line but there will always be somebody who will. This is especially the case when things are not looking good. People are in debt and a little abuse of their power to make a little more money seems too logical for them.

Gandhi's line that 'the world is enough for a man's need but not enough for a man's greed' can be used to reflect all of these. As long as there are humans we continue to feel or suffer but there are only a few of them in my opinion. Still I believe that the 'minority of corrupt people' can be over ruled by the majority of good people if we all sit in the negotiating table together and draw the mechanisms. The road may be painful but it seems the only way.

i am from Indonesia, the number #1 most corrupted country. there is nothing can be more severe than that. but really, corruption is ruining our country. and I am so sad that some restaurants in US also give bribery to health inspectors. foods are very important to human. and when it is corrupted, somehow it will be a disaster. who knows maybe the recent e-coli spread in Europe was also caused by bribed health inspectors.
