School Dance..

Dressed Up for the dance - My son all dressed up for his first "dress up" dance

My son is at his first ever school dance. The school has had one or two dances before, but my son never went. We were usually busy or whatever. However this year is a "dress up" dance. Not really a formal, or even semi-formal.. but just a "dress up" dance. It's nearing the end of 8th grade, so they put this on for all the kids. So, I wanted to share the pic of him all ready to go to his dance. I hope he's having a great time. Have your kids been to any school dances? Any "dress up" dances?

I commented on the picture already saying he looks handsome and real nice in that outfit. MY youngest son hasn't had any school dances yet but he's only going to be in the 5th grade when school starts up again. My oldest went to quite a few dances. I was always excited for him when there was dances, especially the first one. I would ask him how everything was as soon as he got home.I think the first one he didn't dance with anyone since he was too bashful to ask anyone to dance with him.I was the same way when I was younger. I told him that he needs to ask people all they can say is no but if they say yes he will have more fun.He doesn't know until he tries. He danced with people the next time. I hope your son has lots of fun.I bet you will be asking him how it was too.

I am looking forward to hearing how it went. I hope he's having fun. It ends around 8:30 and my husband will pick him up. So I've got about an hour to wait to know how it went.

He looks very nice. And no they haven't. Dearra isn't interested, and the twins' school doesn't have dances...

He only seemed half interested. I don't think he was pleased about having to dress up! Also he claims to have heard a rumor that if he did not go to the dance they wouldn't let him go on their Seabreeze trip. I doubt there's truth in that.. but it got him to go to the dance!

Both my grandkids have been to at least one Halloween dance where they had to REALLY "dress up"...lol! Angela has gone to two of the "spring formals" at her middle school and it involved a new dress, new shoes...the whole nine yards. Now this coming year she'll be in the high school so that's when the fun - and the expense - REALLY starts! Annie

I know, it's much cheaper for boys! With girls you need a dress, shoes they'll probably hardly ever wear again, jewelry and whatever else they think they "have to have"! Annie

Mine is entering high school as well. I'm glad he's a boy and isn't quite as expensive as girls are. I only have 1 girl, and she's still a few years off from high school. Hopefully by then our financial situation will be a little better so I can afford all this stuff!

My kids went to very few..including prom. Not one of them wanted to go and they found other things to do that night...I was a bit disappointed though...I wanted to see them all dressed up....however I do think that it made their wedding day a little more special for my daughters....when they put on their beautiful wedding dresses! THey both looked like princesses!

I am not looking forward to sending all these kids to prom. Their weddings will also be expensive.. oh boy! I thought raising little ones was expensive.. but teens and young adults are just as expensive, aren't they?

Aww kat - he is so handsome. Really good looking. I hope that he has lots of fun. No, none of my chiuldren ever had dances at school. It just wasn't the custom out here or in the U.K. The prefects at my school used to have a dance each year and the female teachers would dance with us. It took me years to learn to be a female in a dance as I would assume the male position and just set off to a walz or something. So funny when I look back at it. |How innocent we were. I really hopes that he has a wonderful time.

LOL.. that's funny! I remember having a few school dances, but I never went to any of my dress up dances. I missed prom, and my semi-formal. Ah well. He should be home within the hour. I'm excited to hear how it went.

UM, guess he won't be home till 9:30. The website had the wrong hours listed. I got him there an hour early.. bad mom! So I'll know in about 15 minutes how it went, but when hubby called me to tell me the dance wasn't over for another hour he said it seemed as though my son was having fun.

That's very exciting! My son will start 6th grade next fall, and they haven't had any dances yet. And he's not interested in girls or dances yet. Maybe in a couple of years he will. That's really something to look forward to.

I don't think boys ever really get into going to dances.. but it's a way to hang out with friends and have fun.. and my son is all for things like that.

I think the first time they offered a dance to these kids was in 6th grade, and my son didn't go.

We don't really have those here. I remember my one and only school dance, to celebrate the end of the school year. I can even remember my dress :-) I hope your son has a great night.

Hey kats! That's one good looking young man you have there! He looks extremely handsome and I'm sure he's got plenty of "young ladies" who will agree. Hope he had a great time! Please let us know!

I'm an awful mom (though it wasn't totally my fault). The website said the dance was from 6-8:30. So I dropped him off at 6. It seemed rather empty.. so I was worried. He went in and I waited a few minutes to make sure he got in okay. He didn't come back out.. so I left. I told hubby to pick him up at 8:30. Hubby just called, the dance started at 7 and won't end till 9:30. I had him there a whole hour early.. poor guy!

Your son is a very handsome young man. I hope he had a wonderful time at his first school dance; this is an important time in his life. I just had a young family member go to an eleventh grade dance and I was expecting formal gowns and gloves, that didn't happen. She was dressed nicely, but the dress was short and semi-formal; things have changed over the years. But, we have to let them live in their time and create their own memories.
