Are McDonald's ads getting dumber?

It's been a long road since Barry Manilow wrote "You deserve a break today" and where is the Hamburgler? At least those ads were good for kids (unlike BK's scary plastic King). McDonald's new ads seem to highlight stupid people. There's a guy with his girlfriend who is struggling to come up with a pet name for the girl, who obviously has no trouble doing the same for him. We hear his thoughts as he finally comes up with "Sweet-tie" because he's drinking Sweet Tea. can't hep thinking, girl dump this guy. He's an idiot who thinks he's intelligent because he knows how to order at McDonald's. The there's the woman who sits down at the wrong table. She notices what th guy is eating but she doesn't realize he's not her husband. The she offers the guy a spoonful of her breakfast, and what's really scary, he eats it. You have to wonder, why did the husband hook up wih this womand and more importantly, if they stay married, howwill he recogize if she gets Alzheimer's as she's already out of it. Then also, what are we to make of the guy she sat down with. How lonely is he and is he doomed to wander fast food places trying to find his own idiot wife? What do you think?

I remember when they had the signs up for 1M. When did they take those down? I like BK better than Mcd's. I don't care for the filler flavor hamburgers. I like the lady who set down at the wrong table. Probably because I have a unspoken fear of doing that sometime. Who knows why stupids in commercials do what they do. Bad writers I guess. I think stupid commercials are better remembered than ones that make sense.

It's been awhile since they took the numbers down but if you look at an old Woody Allen movie, Sleeper, you'll see the sign with a 1 and a large number of zeroes after it. (Sleeper was about a guy who is cryoscopically frozen and thawed out several hundreed years later.)

Oh, yes! Sleeper is a classic. I remember the zeros from when McD's first started out. I've been around awhile.

Well, the one with the Sweet Tea is pretty stupid, and the problem is I have a friend in Illinois who orders that all the time when she goes thru the drive thru so when I am talking to her on the phone and here her order that, it makes me think of that commercial. Also I heard the wife who sits down with the wrong guy with the Oatmeal is really how she met her husband in the first place... so pretty strange there or a so called flashback?

No after the guy eats some of her oatmeal she so goes to the correct table and her husband says "that's how we met". Sweet Tea started down south. I first had it at an Arby's in 1995 so MCDonald's picked i up and ran with it.

adverts are always stupid. and to be honest, I think that clown easily outweighs the plastic king for scariness. it's a CLOWN afterall. *shudder*

Butit was a live, human clown, not a plastic king with a frozen smile. Actually, BK used to have a human king before this plastic thing.

I'm not really sure about that- in our country, McDonalds commercials are really fun and i look forward to it all the time. Since they can relate to what is happening right now...how kids and parents interact, and boys and girls, and even old people.. I can never forget one commercial about Karen and her grandfather- it was so touching.

I fully agree with you that they are getting quite dumb. Even when they're promoting a new product like their ice coffees or those fruit smoothie things. It's like McD's is trying to draw in more... how should I say this in a politically correct way.. morons? The one with the random guy eating after the lady bothers me as well. Are they trying to say the encourage an environment that allows everyone to be super friendly and family like? Because at the McDonalds in my area, I don't think I would want to eat after any randoms.. But you must admit, some of the adverts they have for the happy meals are cute. Like the animated ones with Spaceman Stu and Baby Bot (sp?). Very catchy among the younger members of society and fun to sing along with.
