The real meaning of love

"Love" is perhaps the most widely used word in the world. It generates a sensation quite unique in its perception. I think each and every body has his/her own feelings about love.People fall in love in different ways. Most people fall in love at first sight which is more likely to be the result of physical attraction. But,again there are people who fall in this beautiful trap called love after spending a good deal of time before they start experiencing heavenly feeling.Though love is commonly found to be discussed, its a challenging thing to figure out its real meaning.I would like to know what other people have to say.

I believe the meaning of love is different to everyone. It's an emotion and you can put labels on them (not that I think English offers us the vocabulary to describe such things), but when everyone has a different idea of what it actually is, how can one put labels on it? In my humble opinion, love would be getting along with someone well enough and trusting them, that you're willing to work through problems. I'm not sure how to put what I think in words, and I'm sure I'll think of something later. But that's roughly it.

Ya ,here it is,most of us can't put in words what this feeling called "love" signifies. But don't you think it really requires the range of discussion for people don't it the way it deserves.especially when it comes to the type of love involving a couple. Do you accept that there is heavenly feeling of love between a couple who just get divorced on account of unimportant issues.I just wonder how can they claim that once in their lives they felt such lovely feelings towards each other.Don't such people leave a serious blot on the face of LOVE? How can someone divorce one's darling and soon get married? This can't be love. This is just sensual pleasure. We should carve out the real image of love by taking a deep dive into one's own love relation.People should discuss this with their darlings whom they claim they Looovvvveee!

you are right that love is the most used word in the world. however, it does not mean that it is an easy word. probably, it is one of the most misused and abused words in the world. the movies and fairy tales dilute our understanding of love. love is real and in its reality, it is not a living happily ever after experience. for me, love is my expression of the goodness in me. and i have to express that to people whom i love.

Love is more than just a feeling, love is being there for someone when they need you, love is sacrificing you or something you like for the one you love, love is giving up something you so desperatly won't to do. Love is giving up something you want, love is waking up at night and helping out your friend or loveone. Love means more than just a lustful feeling. And the list goes on and on.

to someone who has never been in a relationship.... just like me....=-= love is just like a secret.... I can't understand it but just to feel it. love sometimes means endless happiness and hopes.... but sometimes it turns out to be heart breaking and lonely tears.... poitive or negative.... it depends on the other one——your beloved. if he pick up the other end of your rope, single feeling then turns out to be interaction.... I think that love is just like all the harvest fruits' super mixture.

So you have to be in a relationship to experience love? What about love of your family, your friends, your favorite activities, your favorite food?

For me "LOVE" is the most wonderful feeling a man should have. Loving someone and loving you in return is a heavenly feeling. And if you love someone so much you will do anything for him/her just to make him/her happy.

You are very right in that everyone has their own feelings about love. They have different definitions for the word. From what you have posted in this discussion, I would guess that mine is different from yours. When people hear the word "love", most people's first thoughts are of romantic love. I never understood why this is so. There are so many different kinds of love. The Greeks actually have four words, while we only have one. We can be physically attracted to someone. We can love our friends. We can love our family. We can love someone unconditionally. We can love icecream. Why is it that people long so much for romantic love and seem to take the rest for granted? I believe that we long for it because we believe that it will somehow make our life more important, more meaningful. Romantic relationships do not define us. I do believe that people can fall in love at first sight. A great deal of the time, it probably is due to physical attraction, but we cannot know for sure if there is ever something more, though I do believe it's possible. Certain energies are attracted to each other. Perhaps some people are soul-mates and they are naturally drawn to each other, but maybe different individuals are more conscious of this than others. Maybe we experience the different types of love for another at different times in the relationship. We can have agápe (true/unconditional love), philía (friendship), and éros (passionate love) for the same person. Perhaps first we meet them and feel attracted to their beauty, or perhaps we are friends with them first. But I wonder if we can truly experience agápe without spending a great deal of time with them. The truth about love is that it is all around us and we don't need to seek it out. No type of love is more important than another. The combination of all the types of love is what makes life.

I remember reading a couple definitions of love that stuck with me. On is "Love is the golden key that opens the locked door". But the one I really like goes like this: "Love is an invasion of privacy that you enjoy". I think that pretty much sums it up.

Based on 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 Love is defined as "Love is patient, Love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs." Based on my opinion, love is not only a feeling because feelings change and aren't easily controlled. Love is a decision. From the moment we decided to love, we will be able to embrace the real meaning of love as stated in Corinthians. Real love means unconditional love. It is a kind of love that can fill us up, make us whole, and give happiness we all want. :)
