I ran a blog for two or so years and used Facebook as a promotional tool through the use of a 'like' page. It worked really well, facebook was one of my top traffic sources over a long period of time. I also tried using Twitter as a marketing tool but this didn't work well at all - I think the reason it didn't is because a large portion of Twitter users post links in a lot of their tweets. Sure it works for some people, just didn't work for me. I also used to use Twitter as a personal network, I followed many of my favorite people etc. But then I realized it was taking up a lot of my time and I wasn't really enjoying it that much, since then I haven't been on much at all. As for Facebook - I use it everyday, to connect with friends, family etc. Sure, most of the time I spend on it is pretty much pointless. For example; today was actually my birthday - I received 64 text messages to my cellphone telling me that someone had posted 'Happy Birthday' on my wall. Although this is good and all, it kind of seems a bit over the top. It could just be me though. All in all, I think social networking can have many upsides and downs. It all depends on the person using it and how they use it. Sam

I think that one of the things that is positive about social networking is that it is so easy to get hold of the people who you wish to without having to spend any money on either a phone call or a text message. The worst thing about them in my opinion is that if you're spending all day on the internet, you wouldn't be able to get as much exercise as you should be able to per day in order to keep your body healthy. There is a major proven link between internet usage and obesity, and this is certainly something that needs to be studied in more detail.

Social networking can give us some entertainment. And we can keep in touch with our friends there. However, sometimes you will find it bored and feel like wasting time in the social networking. I love China

Hi faisale! Social networking services such as Facebook, and twitter have revolutionized the way people interact. They provide instant access to different groups and individuals, allowing people to interact with each other regardless of geological location or timeframe. In addition to the personal applications, they also serve as a means of connecting businesses with potential customers. While social networking sites offer considerable advantages (part of the reason they have become so popular), they also contain some significant drawbacks, which potential users should be aware of before signing up. The advantage of this is the LOW COST. Many social networking sites are free to use, while others charge only a normal fee. This allow anyone to access the, regardless of their financial situation. For individuals, it means connecting and communicating with distant friends and family members without running up phone bills. For businesses, it allows them to find potential customers and observe market demographics for very little investment. The second advantage is the CONNECTION. Social Networks often allow you to connect not only with friends, but with the friends of friends(people who you might otherwise never meet or get to know). Not only does this increase your circle of friends, but it can lead to things like possible Job connectioms or knowledge about new hobbies that you might consider. From a business perspective, this interconnectedness means that word about your products can spread rapidly, and satisfied customers speaking about your product can reach hundreds of new potential customers in a very short period of time. The disadvantage of this is the HARASSMENT. The interconnectivity of social networiking sites is one of its biggest selling points, but it also comes with a serious drawback. If you're not careful, you can leave yourself open to stalkers, cyber-bullying and other forms of harassment, as unwelcome individuals make contact with you through the site. It also allows online scams to flourish, and if you're not careful about the information you reveal, you can leave yourself open to identity theft. In many cases, social networking sites have security measures in place to prevent such instances, but it does happen. The second disadvantage is the ADDICTION. If you allow it, social networking sites can completely consume your life. New friends request to be added, old ones post updates, and polls, games and links to countless different websites can turn a pleasant diversion into a significant expediture of time. People laugh about social media addiction, but sites like ComputerWorld actually report that a percentage of users become obsessed with social networking sites. If left unchecked, this can create problems at work and at home, as "real" realationships suffer for the sake of virtual ones. We should always aware to ourself. Everything too much has a negative effects to us. Monitor and make some self reflection in life. Don't make yourself to be obsessed of somthing not that important to your life. Make a choice. I hope it will give help to everyone! God Bless MyLotters!
