I have a niece who turned 4 this year. And it feels like too soon that she is about to go to school already. Time flies so fast. Now, she is about to go to school, it kinda makes me feel excited somehow. For the first time she will go to school and make friends and begin to socialize with other students. Well, we have enrolled her last summer for summer class for in this school year, she will not be awkward or afraid of other people older or younger or same age as her. She did quite well last summer but then when we enrolled her again for this school year, she feels like "again" a first timer that she felt shy and don't know what to say to her teacher. Does this happen to your child also, or can you imagine yourself before when you are a first timer student? What does you/your child felt like? It's as if they are trying to expose themselves as if like embracing the world by sharing themselves to others for the first time...

I kind of remember the first time I went to school and my mother confirmed it. I was to be sent to a kindergarten, but at the time the kindergarten was only available in the city. We lived in a village 40km away from the city. My mother took me there for two days but then we quit, as I did not want to be left alone in the school so that my mother could get to her chores as usual. A couple of months later, I demanded my parents to let me go to school just like everybody else. So my parents talked to the Elementary School's principal at the time to allow me to just join the class. When it was the time to pay the monthly tuition I noticed that my parents didn't pay anything, so I asked them why. They told me because I was not registered there, I was just a follower. I remember I was a bit disappointed at the time. When it was come to the test, I joined the test and I passed. Since the principal was a family, I finally got enrolled at the school for being able to pass the test with the first mark.

joined the test and passed - I'm happy you did make it to be "visible" student! ^_^
Hello jennyze! It's been a long time since I last seen you here. You have a wonderful past huh? It's good to here your story. At least you have participated in a school though somehow it feels like you are kinda invisible. Well, at least your parents did tried to bring you to school. You should be happy with that. It's like you are there to learn for free. Isn't that good? You also get advantage of that. Not all children have experiences like that so you should be thankful. I'm happy that you became a "visible" student during elementary days.

My son did pre-school last year (and tomorrow is their last day!), so I really saw the changes in him as he did his first interaction with other kids in a school setting. His class was only two days a week for a couple of hours, but this September, he'll be going to kindergarten which is a whole day class, 5 days a week. It's going to be another big change for him, and it's exciting.

My son is currently enjoying kindergarten! He's doing so well that his teacher even picked him for a reading contest. He's one of a handful who could read very well at such a young age.

Wow! that's such a great mind at such a young age, isn't it? You're lucky to have him as a child, I can say! Congratulations for having such a child wonder! I bet you are able to put him to workshops since it's summer vacation...

Of course it's exciting to see your little ones go to school and see what change they have made on themselves. How was he now? It's been a long time since I last visit this topic... It's good when summer is up and kids might have workshops or art stuffs to attend to. It can add help for them to be more sociable and learn to get along more with other kids like their age, right?

haha =D Looks like u ae treating your niece like your own daughter huh?? I guess when the time for my own child starts school, i will be as excited or maybe more excited for them, as it's a new beginning to their life. They will make new friends, interaction and communication will be involved too. They will learn that they are not alone, and they have to share.. haha =D While being a parent then, my only concern is, whether he/she will be bullied.. lol =D

she is always loved by all the members of the family. I just hope she'll learn more and be a better individual in the future. Yeah, it's been an exciting part of life as one who takes care of her. cause not all children can have the opportunity to be at school and learn things. Being a parent is really hard though it feels contented when you know your child also loves and think of you. it's a beginning of their life and it's really wonderful thing to let them experience everything around them. it's true they are not alone but not all children have the same feelings or attitudes. there are times they can be bullied or they are the one who is bullying others.

participate in school - how well do you participate in school?
Hello babycatch!Nice to see you here. What was your preschool like? I mean, you didn't go in preschool in a university, right? Well, of course preschool, elementary, high school and college days are far way different from each other. I also had different experiences being a student. In preschool, I'm a smart kid but eventually fades away when I wan in elementary and I have been bullied at times and being defended by my twin sister that made my parents decide to enroll us in different school since we are moving to other place to live. High school has been fun but can be sad also. I had experience terror teachers which made me feel really frightened and mad that time. I admit I felt mad til today to that teacher. She was really bad at her students. She keep on embarrassing all of us even if we just did little mistake. In college, I felt like studying feels boring to me. I don't know, I guess it's just my course is not my choice to take. But then, I did finished that course, though I know I felt not that happy. Making friends is quite hard for me at first, but there are people who became my friends instantly. It's like first time I saw them, I know I can be friends with them. Even in here, at first sight of other people's names in here, I can feel that there's a possibility for us to be friends, which is good...^_^ So, you have a nephew. Is he preschool too like my niece? My niece is friendly though at times she really is hyper that makes other kids feel like she can be a leader though she can be mad at times that she felt like having others as her enemy. I wonder why she's like that. :O

Oooohh... I think your niece is like my niece too. sad to say, she's been very hyper that makes her act wild sometimes, it seems like hard to control her... there was a time her teacher asked them to write something then she began saying "run with me, teacher"

I remember my first day of school, they had to drag me out of bed, I didn't like going to school when I was young, so every morning they had to drag me out of the room; kick and screaming, chasing me around, etc. I was a problem child when I was young, but I soon outgrew that phase hehe

Hello cratermon! I bet you certainly cannot forget your first days of school. I think that can be normal for some kids. My niece for some reasons can be excited to going to school but then at house, she doesn't like to practice writing. How can she write in school when at home she can't write her name, right? It really needs practice on that part. Some kids like my niece gets excited when will the class start. But then I know when the class starts, she will be hard to get up in bed and hard to feed as well as hard to catch when she starts running, getting away from taking a bath... really tiring to take care a child. But then, that's what kids are. They like to do what they wanted to do. It's just they loved playing. They just don't know how hard to take care of them.

she'll learn how to write on her own time, specially among her peers, she'll be motivated to write when she sees others within her age group doing the same thing.

yes, i know. i can see she's learning to write her name. though she keeps on playing all the time that's why there are times i easily get irritated at her. she looks like she don't want to study...too bad!

That must be a hard time you got back there... I also felt scared at times when facing too many people and introducing myself. That's why I hate reporting in school. Well, anyway it is really important to have introductions like that cause we all have to face our fears and be used to being able to speak to people in front of you... Becoming speechless and nervous at the same time can also feel like you don't know where to go afterwards or what to do next. Do I have to continue my introduction or escape and wish to disappear factors coming to mind when you are in that situation you don't want to be embarrassed but then, that's it. You felt scared and nervous and stressed? Oh my!

I don't remember my first first day at school. But I do remember my earliest school days when I was very young growing up in West London, England I remember we passed a green fig tree on the way, and I had to call out every time I saw it. Also, my dad used to invent stories for me; as he was raised in Australia, I used to call them Australian stories, even though not all of them were Australian as I recall. I can also remember not wanting to say goodbye to my dad. I used to mount the stairs, and not want him to go from out of my sight. So I used to mount the stairs and ask him to stay until he was out of sight. It was painful for me to part with my parents when i was young. And I used to get frantic if they were late in picking me up from school. I'm not sure of the sequence of these phenomena but these are memories of my earliest school days. But in time I settled in and became a very mischievous and difficult to control kid. And lasted that way until i was 16, when I finally quit formal education. And entered informal education, which suited me pretty well.

hello carl! your posat made me think of my past. well, i am a bit like you. I can't remember if i want my parents to go ahead and i'll be okay at school but then what I can remember is that I have studied elementary days with my twin sister. we have different rooms and section that time but i stopped by at her and i forgot where my room was. too bad, i cried that time. luckily, i have a classmate who was our neighbor and he helped me find my way. There was also a time I did wait for my mother to come fetch me but then I felt sad they went late. I felt like they have missed to fetch me so it made me felt bad and i cried when i saw them arrive. pretty much a drama, right?

i don't remember my children being scared during the first day though i have to say they are quiet and well-behaved. after a few weeks, the shyness went away. my son was even like a supervisor after finishing his exam and teaching other kids.

wow, you have a wonderful kid i can say! yes, shyness comes first at children, but not all of them felt shy when they get along each other for the next couple of days being in school. it just depends on how sociable or friendly a child/person can be. glad that you have such children.

Hi annavi: I remember quite well my first day at school. A year before my brother has told me that I have to go to school and I was scared after this new experience but when the time arrives to me and I had to go I was more resigned. I have always love school. It was difficult to find some real friends for me but I love studying and this was a very important factor for my success at school. ALVARO

wow, alvaro you loved schooling huh? well, it's the most important thing why we go schooling. we have to study for ourselves to be a better human being in the future. the friends we made is a plus. cause they can help us more to study. it also depends on how they like studying as well. there are students who just don't like studying so they grab on their other classmates for them also not to study. that's the worst part of being in school. you just have to join people who likes to study like you. for you both to earn high grades.

When I think about it I kind of don't remember any first days. May be it's unfortunate for me but I usually am a person who thinks about the future more and tend to forget what has already happened. That's why I don't like to make pictures of myself as well. I feel that the picture is keeping you in one moment from your past and it's not letting you move on. I like to go on with my life and try different things, not thinking of what was before. Is this sound too weird? :)

hello elida! it may sound weird but i don't blame you if you think like that. though i am surprised you felt and think that way. well, for me, there's no bad thing to look at the past cause past will make you realize how much you have changed today. don't make it too hard for yourself to look back at some point in your life. cause i believe that there's a reason why we have gone through the past and why we are now living in the present. there are decisions and choices we made in the past that make us who we are now. so, don't be afraid to take pictures. cause this way, we'll know how much we have been in the present time. i hope you are not mad on what i am stating in here.
