Do You Think Older People Should Dress Their Age or "Young"?

What's with the vizor? - Is this older guy trying to look "youthful" with that jaunty vizor cap? Grow up is what I say!

Older people dress in all sorts of ways. But I've noticed two distinct type of older guy. You get the older guy who may have been as wild as they come in his youth, but who favours a classical look in middle age: short hair, maybe a polo shirt, smart slacks and so on. And then you get the other type of older guy, the "Rock and Roll" type who favours a more trendy look, long hair, eye liner, ear rings, tats, and so on. Which do you think is more flattering for an older guy? How about older women? Do you think they look best when they dress conservatively, or youthfully trendy? Or does it all depend on how the look is carried off? And on the individual? What do you think?

It depends on the person. Age is just a number, case in point Cher and Mick Jaggar. They can wear Anything! I think the older classic look is fine It can be hard to pull off cool when you are older. but not impossible. I think it depends on body shape and personal style.

I think there is not such thing like dress proper to age. Is depend of you and your preferences. Always I'm surprise when my mother tell's me that I shouldn't wear dr Martin's shoes because this is not proper to my age. I don't care I like it, they are very comfty and I will wear it.

Casual sporty clothes... - ...are so comfortable, as in 2010 (?), so today...
I'm with you with the comfort, I just love being comfortable...

i do believe it is a combination of how to carry the dress and donning the 'appropriate' dress. there are people who can have a get up of a younger generation but could still look good. but there are always exemption to the rule.

Yes, true; you can be youthful without being wild, and conservative without being too "appropriate"...:o)

I think a person shouldn't dress one way or another just because of their age, but dress like they want to. Image is important for everyone, specially being confortable about it. In this age people still look down on people who don't dress like "they're supposed to", and I find that stupid and inappropiate. We dress for ourselves to make ourselves happy

That's true, if we are not happy in our clothes, we can be miserable indeed. I am easier to please in that respect than I once was.

There are some elders that do dress in styles that perhaps younger generations would normally wear. I generally do not have a issue with anyone dressing in their unique ways, so as long as they are not flashing way too much and or anyone really. It is simply a preference and while some may look good in some attire others may not even at a young age too. lol

Yes, there are. Although a lot of older people still have an affection for the wild rock'n'roll styles of their youth. While others prefer today's more casual sporty youthful styles.

Its all about the individual.I feel like you should dress the way you feel as a person. What ever makes you comfortable is what you should wear no matter your age.

Inappropriate? - Well, this was 2010? And my hair was long, perhaps too long for my age...but no worries...my hair is short now...as for the casual clothes, well I feel comfortable in them.
I think you're right, Whispers...

I know the most common way to say it would be to dress however they want to. I seen someone the other day though and she was dressed way too young for her age and it was not appealing at all to see their skin with what they had on.

I guess it depends how it's carried off.

for me, dressing on your own style and whatever you want is the most important thing as long as you are comfortable with it. I don't care what other people will think about the way I dress as long as it looks good on me and I am comfortable moving around with it. Of course, it also better to look for clothes that you think is appropriate for your age but if you're quite older and you still want to be trendy, I believe that there are still clothes that is trendy for older ages. You just need to learn how to mix and match.

That's true. Some older people go to extremes. They are either totally conservative, or totally rock'n'roll! Mix n match is good.

I don't care how they dress as long as they are covered. I was cleaning up the laundry-mat I think it was yesterday may have been Tuesday. What is today? Anyway I was cleaning the laundry-mat and they were this lady there in her 60s at least wearing very short shorts with nothing underneath. It was something me as a women did NOT wish to see. I don't think anyone should dress like that, especially if they are in a laundry-mat and of coarse my girls had a laughing spell and the women had to know they were laughing at her. Not that I care. We left and came back after she was going. It doesn't matter as long as they are covered that is my opinion.
