Should we switch to all private education in the US. Public education is filled with waste and maybe its come to the point where we cant try to edcucate everyone. Especially not teach everyone the same thing. Some should be geared toward industrial education and other math or science, and others the humanities. Private edcucation is probably too limited to meet the needs of our system and our educational needs.

We found the public school in our area more then lacking. Our children tested in other school systems years behind where they should have been. We where told that our daughter with a learning disability didn't need more help because she could get just passing grades. I asked how she would go to college with just passing grades I was told by her 4th grade teacher that kids like her didn't go to college. Being a child like her and having gone to college, and my husband also having worse disabilities then myself who is actively attending college, we where beyond offended. We pulled our girls out. That was mid year 3 years ago. We went to a public cyber school (can be found for your state via www.K12.com) and we couldn't be happier. They yessed our girls and the one with learning disabilities tested a year behind. The other that we had been trying to get tested tested two years behind in reading and phonics yet a year ahead in math. SO the public school had not given support for either good or bad reasons they just kept telling us she was fine. They are both caught up. The third girl started kindergarten this year via cyber school and is way ahead of her friends that go to brick and mortar school friends. I will not send my kids back to public brick and mortar school but if I had too I would chose a private or charter school for sure.

The key is there is many ways to educate our children. Choice is imporatnt. Schools have many different options such as computer or cyber learning. The voucher sytem could help and community home schools also teaching a group of 7 to 10 children could also be a good way. Public schools must intstitute better policies such as going to each childs home and meeting the parents and seeing their natural environment on a monthly basis. This is something the counselors should do in conjunction with the teachers.

Going into peoples homes seems like a little too much especially if there is no reason to. What needs to happen is that schools need to be able to effectively discipline, not teach for tests and contain actual learning. No TVs
